I think you nailed it. It's a good game, not a great game. It's fun the first time, but there is not enough content to justify its price in my opinion.

You're right about Torchlight II, I think it will be better than diablo III, furthermore at 20$ it's pretty cheap.

A great many of the skills in Titan Quest either suck outright, are one point wonders, or are not worth using compared to other skills.

Nephalem Valor is a buff you get at 60 when you kill rares and packs of champions - it greatly increases your Magic Find.  It stacks up to five times.  You lose it if you change even one skill.  This is your incentive to not change your build whenever you want.  The challenge is finding a build that will let you run consistently in inferno without having to change abilities each time.  This is not easy to do.

Stats in D2 were a litmus test to see if you did enough reading online to learn that you only needed enough str for gear, enough dex for max block, and you should pump everything else into vitality.  Anything else was a fucking joke.  the stat allocation system in D2 was HORRENDOUS and POINTLESS.

but you didn't even get to the meat of the game and seem unaware of some of its features.  I'm not sure how you can make this statement.

I have tried the Torchlight 2 beta out a few times now and as I said before the game just feels archaic and outdated after the quantum leap forward in game development that D3 represents.  Putting a point into a skill for 10% more damage and then having to do that 15 more times to have a fully upgraded skill is a STUPID and NOT FUN nor PERSONALLY REWARDING way of doing things at all!!!!!

Gravel, it's ok if you like the game. You may consider it to be better than Torchlight and TQ, but I don't. And all the things you said will never justify the fact that they're selling it $60. Nothing in Diable 3 can justify this, except, perhaps, the name. If you're willing to pay for a name, fine. But there's planty of games with other names, that are selling at a reasonable price and that are much better.

Try to put the name aside for a moment, and please do it honestly. If it wasn't for the name, this game would never have had the "success" it has now. I think that you can agree with me on this. D3 is far from being revolutionary. It has a new kind of skills system, but in reality, it's only a dumbed down system that's making the game mainstream. The graphics are good, but nothing impressive. You can't play it offline, nor in Lan. (thus the DRMs really suck).

With this price, Blizzard is stealing from their fans. They knew they were gonna buy it anyway. And I don't agree with this way of doing.

Take for example Grinding Gear Games with Path of Exile. They're putting out a free ARPG that have a very cool, new and clever passive and active skills system. It has a very cool kind of crafting system too. I'm not saying it's better than D3. But it's very good and it's only in beta. And it's free... It's free and they won't even put a real money item shop because they're honest and make the game for the fans, not for their money. Well, they'll put an item shop, but for aesthetic items only. Thus not messing with the game's economics and legitimacy of each player's gaming skills.

If you want a real good revolutionary ARPG, wait for Grim Dawn. You'll pay a reasonable price to a gaming company that care for their fans, not stealing from them to please their board of directors...

Path of Exile has a couple neat ideas but it just isn't that fun :(

edit
The 300 hours (and counting) I've spent playing D3 thus far justifies it's price tag far more than the 30 hours I got out of Torchlight for 20$ or even the 200ish hours I've put into Titan Quest at 90$.

I guess if you sell enough items you can make profits out of D3...

A buddy of mine sold a crossbow for 75$ today.  So he's already ahead.

You know you can sell items and use the money from that to buy items right?  It doesn't necessarily mean someone spent 75 of their cash.

Success is in the eye of the beholder.  I'm hosting a music festival for 400 people beside a river in the forest tomorrow night.  I won't be making any money or getting any publicity but I'm going to make damn sure 400 people enjoy the shit out of life for a night.

Feels pretty success to me.

..............anyway.....

I'm playing Fallout 3 again. Mostly just filling in time and getting a couple of achievements I didn't get first time around. Waiting for holidays to come before I sink into Kingdoms of Amalur: The Reckoning (two weeks and counting down!!).
Picket a protest!

Edit: woops whole message went blank lol

Retype: Still trying to finish Baldur's Gate II Throne Of Baal on Pc. Gotta love the story, first you adventure and slay the dude who stole your divine soul power since you're one of the spawns of the God Of Murder, in Shadows Of Amn, and now there's a whole bunch of other Bhaal spawns and we're all slaughtering each other in much glory and joy. Oh yeah, gotta love those +5 weapons too. It's fun playing a game which is like Diablo, except with dialog choices and operating 6 characters at once lol

Fatal, you should take a look at Krater. It's a bit like that, a 3 characters squad arpg. So far it's really good.

And there's gonna be a multiplayer mode in July.

I finished Dead Space 1 while recovering from my festival yesterday.  Started trying to play Dead Space 2, gave up in disgust after an hour or so.  Seems super fucking cartoony compared to the first, DO NOT WANT.

Same thing with Alan Wake's American Nightmare.  First game was deliciously creepy.  This one is all shooty and stuff and not creepy at all.  Played maybe an hour, may or not go back to it.

back to D3 we go.
