I don't mind non-linear games that are executed properly - Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 (though both, 2 more so, are a bit more linear in the later chapters) are both non-linear through the parts that matter most, the beginning, wherein your character and his party are for the most part defined. Though definition is a loose term here as the actual role playing is quite limited (amazing writing though, especially 2). One of the older Bethesda games (pretty sure Daggerfall though I may be mistaken) originally shipped with a bug that permanently crashed hard drives. Something like that is not fixable with the mod tools and should never, ever be allowed past quality control. I'm not sure why you think I assume intent, as it's my own personal opinion that they have shittastic quality control and has nothing to do with them. That said, if I am paying 60$ for a game I expect to be paying for professionalism - bugs are inexcusable, especially the myriad that all Bethesda games ship with - graphical glitches, sound problems, spelling errors, dialogue errors, etc. There are always a ton, Bethesda patches maybe half of the easier ones to fix for a couple months after a game is released, and then nothing. The community patches are irrelevant - proper quality assurance and testing would negate the need for community involvement of this sort at all, allowing the community to focus on what the devkits are truly for - making mods, not fixing sloppy ass programming. Say what you will about Blizzard, they are STILL to this day patching new features into Diablo 2, Starcraft, and Warcraft 3 - that kind of retro-dedication to quality assurance is something very, very few companies in this industry have, and it's one of the reasons they still have so many dedicated fans worldwide. if a game has CHECK points, its the same AS save anywhere ONLY adding the horror of doing 100 times the work to get back to the near end of the check point every time. untrue. A developer designing levels using checkpoints has far more focus and an end goal. I'm not an advocate of having to re-do large chunks of level or anything like that - difficult sections should always be bookended by checkpoints. Encounters in this style of gameplay are better designed, because the encounters play out as intended by developers. However, when the user can save anywhere at anytime, the developer has no control over any game pacing or flow - the user can save after every single enemy or obstacle one overcomes, and the "challenging" set piece is reduced to a bunch of saving and loading as you crawl through one target at a time. You're probably going to tell me to just opt out of the save anywhere function, but that doesn't really address my issue with the checkpoint vs save anywhere at all, it's just kind of sweeping it under the rug. Halo is beautiful in this regard - the first game on legendary by yourself is one of the best paced FPS campaigns ever created. HL1 was better and maybe a couple of others, and the game itself has a myriad of other flaws, but none of that takes away from the deliberate pace the developers are allowed to set through the use of checkpoints. Related but on a different note, I really hate how easy games have become.

well i agree with you on the easy thing to be sure
but one thing you are lacking in knowledge of.. that bug crashing hds had nothing to do with the game but rather an audio driver dealing with the game at the time, which other games of its era crashed OS's NOT hd's .. not the same thing but yes it sucks. Later this became fixable by UPDATED SOUND DRIVERS.. not a patch in the game also was it you who claimed to like blizzard or someone else? look at every blizzard software since day one.. riddled with bugs, yet it sells like hotcakes... your arguement of bugs is nullified.. games ship with bugs ALL the time, even CONSOLE games, and you cant patch most of those.. so neiner to the console lovers.. and i love baldurs gate :P high five.. EDIT: and sorry bub.. tons agree, and you dont have to, halo is just shat all around, its only positive was the mulitplayer at one point and even then.. it vanished very quickly in the community as other far superior games came out. story line was about all halo 1 had going for it Edited by badrelgnsf - 10/02/2009 at 18:31 |

Demon's Souls (PS3) is amazing! Finally a difficult game!
And Brutal Legend is similarly amazing, Schaeffer is always a delight. |

So, Uncharted 2 is pretty much the greatest game this generation.
Seriously, I have absolutely no complaints about the game, and it's so damn hard to put down the controller. |

People seem to like Brutal Legend? I hate hack n' slash but maybe i can make an exception for Tim. Wasn't that impressed by Psychonauts though.

Nice. You definitely can't go wrong with Uncharted. I, myself, am fortunate enough to own all three consoles. I bought my Wii on day 1 (and I always regret it), bought my PS3 3 months after release, and I just recently bought my 360 for 100 bucks by cheating Microsoft's Retail ExpertZone. Good stuff. |

My copy of Uncharted 2 *finally* arrived 2 days ago. I've had a great time playing the first one and this one definitely has the same feeling to it.
One thing, though... I have the feeling there's too many cut scenes and interuptions. But I've only played for about an hour orso, so maybe that will change when the game progresses. |

yea that is true about the cutscenes.. they are making it .. cinimatic.. or something lol
there is a game for ps2 called xenosaga.. its about 25 hrs of cut scenes.. so.. most of the game you just watch tv for 20 min then play for 12 .. watch for 20 .. play for 30 .. watch for 20.. ahhhh lol borderlands is a fake ripoff fallout 3.. which sucked on its own.. add cell shading and some horrid world of warcraft skill set.. with only a few characters with almost no difference in weapon usages, guns are very inaccurate.. even as sniper.. bugs abound.. horrid port if you play the pc version.. and online is buggy but.. seems to be the only future fun for this game :P uncharted is wicked.. know it is multi platform... its not like godsent or anything but i own it.. and i dont even own the consoles.. i play on my friends lol.. |

Trust me, it changes. There's a reason why it's gotten almost perfect reviews across the board.
The first one was a great game, but the second one is almost a perfect game.

homer reviews are for lamers, since everyone has their own view, and most critics, esp gaming mags and sites are paid off by companies to give good reviews. when one person doesnt, they get fired.. see ign for details.
i do however agree on this game, 1st great.. 2nd NEAR perfect... mulit platform means.. more than one system... as in.. not just for Xbox or JUST for PS3 and wicked well.. means cool.. |

The skill trees in Borderlands are not similar to WoW's at all, there is only one active skill per character and everything else is passive bonuses. It doesn't play anything like Fallout 3, it's much faster paced instead of boring and slow, and there are no stats affecting how your character plays. Of course the guns are inaccurate at the beginning of the game? My sniper can easily get headshots on enemies that are +3/4 levels higher without any issues by the time I finished the game, and even though the ending sucked, there's still a lot going on.
Did you even try all four characters to any relative point in the game? None of the characters really comes into their own until level 20 or so. Once you have a bunch of skill points to play with weapon usage changes drastically because each character has passives that focus on specific weapons, not to mention class specific items that are type-focused as well. edit and although it shares a similar look, the game isn't actually cel-shaded.

Gravel... Color coded items... this is BLIZZARD ONLY.. that did this .. starting in diablow.. running to WOW..
skill trees are broken into 3 ranks .. same as WOW... and now all other lame RPGS that suck off its shell. when i meant inaccurate.. I mean.. the guns themselves even if you point dead on.. can miss.. and do.. reguardless if you have that sniper rifle with 999999 X zoom and % to hit.. enemies respawn like water allowing you to just kill the previous bosses and get guns .. sell them,.. rinse and repeat .. I was rich before i left the first area..maxing out everything sit in the vehicle.. hold down the shoot button... make dinner.. watch a movie .. come back and walla 30,000 xp for shooting 100,000 bullets... thats just in a few hours mind you . tsk tsk.. I just see potential here.. not anything.. good. its very.. how do you put it.. chaotic yet very predictable in its chaos. (3 humans spawn near the start town.. same spot all the time.. same with ALL other enemies.) I never said it PLAYED like fallout 3.. I said it was trying to be it... just as it tried to be a bit of bioshock with the bs vending machines.. Yes I played all characters.. I was an early tester on the pc port.. I test many many games (some just playtests some actual testing which I got paid almost nothing) such is a testers life. as for cell shaded.. even the devs say "go ahead call it cell shading" its pretty much the same effect using what they called .. urmm.. darn my brain toon shading or something like this. as a tester well part time tester, its my job to find ISSUES with games, and this one is just filled with unoriginality and horrid quests and plots, and very non random events. I cannot recommend it unless its in a bargin bin.. or you get it free :P the art shading is pretty cool, being that its not officially cell shading but thats about the only new thing this game has to offer.
