This. The thing is, I always credited Fletcher with the PW sound... don't know how everyone else feels but that guitar is rather in your face. So its weird that Jim would even want to generate the same sounding type of song, whether his writing improved or not. Does this mean PW might sound completely different now? I kinda hope so. Much love for Jim, but I'm genuinely excited for the new Pennywise album... haven't given too much a shit since Land of the Free. Edited by Darwin At Work - 06/25/2010 at 18:23 |

Damn, all this PW talk has gotten me back into them, big time! I've been watching a bunch of live videos and throwing those old records back into my CD player!
I agree with Darwin. The thing that caught my ear the first time I heard a PW song was the guitar work, which is Fletcher. I IMMEDIATELY fell in love with that distortion and those catchy rhythms and leads. PW guitar work is immediately recognizable and has been what made PW sound unique. I remember when I was 12 (7th grade, 2002) and I heard "Fuck Authority" and "Divine Intervention" on the radio, I just thought to myself THAT guitar sounds PERFECT. Jim's vocals topped off the tough-guy sound. PW and BR were my go to bands back in those days. Wait, they still are! Edited by a_sh0pping_cart - 06/26/2010 at 00:27 |

What the fuck was the point of leaving PW if you're just gonna start a new band that sounds pretty much extactly like PW anyway??? I see only two possible explanations:
1. His departure was something personal (although they of would of course deny it) 2. He wanted to continue along the path that the last PW record had suggested (more melodic than earlier PW) and the rest of the band didn't. At the end of the day this basically sounds like Reason to believe, ergo more melodic PW with lots of Melodyne on the vocals :) |

It's not like his new band has a demanding tour schedule right now. PW does, they do a lot of touring and perhaps this new band is what he works on when he has free time at home. He probably just does it as a hobby and for the love of music. He doesn't need to drop music from his life entirely because he left PW.

Perhaps Jim is the staleness behind Pennywise; PW with Zoli has the makings of being epic - instead of being concerned that Ignite and PW are falling apart, Ignite doesn't put out that much anyways, PW was getting predictable, perhaps will get a Jim PW album and a super sweet Zoli PW album and we'll be doubly-plussed.
P.S. Even though Pennywise was predictable, I did always enjoy another 15 songs of the same and Reason to Believe was pretty sweet, but, Pennywise along with bad religion are the bands of my youth so that's at least part of it. |

I have no doubt the Zoil led pennywise album will be fantastic. I'm still adjusting to hearing him sing the classics.
There's one video that has Zoli singing fuck authority (i think) itwas at the smoke out. He looked like he was imitating (mocking?) Jim when he was singing it with a baseball cap pulled down low and rocking on the mic stand back and forth... hmmm... i'll look for it. |

I look forward to it - hopefully Jim is re-energized and I'm imagining how Fletcher's distinctive guitar sound, the very good PW rhythm section and Zoli's outrageous vocal talent equals an absurdly good album --- We could have 2 awesome pennywise upcoming.

The way I see it, is that maybe Pennywise can come up with some good new shit, but their old stuff that they did with Jim, it just isn't right and the feeling isn't there with Zoli singing. They need a fresh start.
The System rocked me, the other song not so much. Maybe it'll be best for both and we'll get some good shit. And Jim left to spend time with his family and... "It was later revealed that Jim left Pennywise due to creative differences and the fact that he didn't want to tour as much as his bandmates aspired to." |

The entire Black Pacific album is on Grooveshark to have a listen if anyone is interested. Sounds pretty...well like Pennywise.

Pennywise is dead but Jim's voice with the Black Pacific isn't, so listen to his new band. Also it is verry funny to see he with his baseball cap, playing and singing at the same time.
