Topic: The new artwork - How do you feel about it? Posted: 07/27/2010 at 13:14 |

He's throwing something? I wonder if it's a molotov cocktail? Anyway, I'm not sure what to make of the artwork. I think (and hope) it's deliberately chosen to convey a real message. Possibly about universal desperation in these times, reminiscent of the Great Depression (hence, the man and his garb), and the molotov cocktail (if it's there) about the boiling over.

Shit, after just hearing that huge turd song plop in my ear, the cover is the least of my worries right now.
I am concerned about this album.

The first post here reminds me of the da Vinci quote "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication."
As a graphic designer and BR fan, I like the album cover.

I'll know for sure how I feel about it once I have it in my hands.
As for my initial reaction, I think its simplicity makes me like it; Though, I feel a little conceded about it at the same time.

I'm still in just that "WTF?!?"-feeling.... A background (albumtitle somewhere in there too), a guy and the 'BR'-text on it??
NMoH was cool, TESF too.. Maybe this is a new TPoB maybe? I truly hope so.. These guys have never let me down! ..(or at least I think so)... -:o.... -:D

I feel this is their poppiest song ever, and I'm not sure if that's entirely a good thing. What do you guys think?
It's well-written, though, and it's their sound, so it makes me happy. :)

I wrote this on a comment to a topic, but this is a mismatch of 70s/80s pop songs: The chorus reminds me of Petty's King's Highway Before the solo reminds me of the intro to Jesse's girl and the Verse is the Daredevils Very underwhelmed

Holy fuck, I just wrote the longest response ever totally excoriating noparadigm and everyone else who's complaining about the artwork and the new song. It was brutal, it was uncompromising, and I probably was going to come off sounding like kind of a dick to some of you. But then I went to click the "new tab" button in my browser so I could go to YouTube and listen to The Devil In Stitches one more time as I summarized my thoughts on it. Instead of hitting that button, I hit one of the links in my favorites toolbar and navigated away from the site, losing the entire text of my post. I'm not going to retype it all again. I'll just say this:
The artwork/cover is awesome. It's VERY Bad Religion-ish, if you understand any of the messages in their music at all. If the cover artwork offends you or disappoints you, maybe you need to reconsider why you like this band in the first place. I think you got a garbled transmission in the messages you gleaned from their music.
And, The Devil In Stitches is great... not a very big departure from normal Mr. Brett fare; I don't know why people seem so stunned by it. This happens every time BR releases a new "slow" song. The hand-wringing over it is pretty tiresome.
Edit: I know Drunk Sincerity was a Greg song, but I can't help hearing some of it when I'm listening to The Devil In Stitches... anyone else picking up on that?

I don't get it how someone can decide whether (s)he likes the artwork or not when it's only based on a small image. I really need to see it for real and check out the back and the inside of the booklet. And I'm wondering what kind of material is used for the booklet...maybe it comes with a cardboard sleeve?

You might want to check out their previous 5 records or so, because this definitely is not their poppiest song.

Im curious what the booklet looks like too. I like the artwork so far. It looks like its going to be the cardboard enviroment friendly style case.

1. Um... how can one not like the cover even though one only has... the cover? I call it eyes and a brain. 2. Don't worry simian, it's because I have an ad hominem blocker in that thread (which I aluded to in my first post). And your questionable summary comment and its questionable tone kind of remind me what people I installed it for...

I know...that's a first impression. But it's possible that there are a lot of details in it which we are missing right now. Did anyone notice the Fig.1 above the title (like TPOB)? Also, the inside or back might reveal what that person is throwing...it might surprise you in the end. But who knows? As for know, I think this artwork is refreshing compared with TESF and NMOH.

Hmm... I feel though it's slightly less "pop" lyrically than, say, Broken, no BR song to me sounds this clearly Major-key, and that's what makes it among their most pop-sounding songs in my opinion.

noparadigm, I was just about to quote your entire post from the random sadness thread and respond to it, but I decided it wouldn't be worth my time. It's really too bad that we have such similar feelings about why Bad Religion is such a great and exceptional band, yet your vitriolic deeper-than-thou intellectual snobbery just makes me disgusted by you. And if you really had an ad hominem blocker, it wouldn't have filtered out any of what I was posting. Plus, you'd miss out on one of (probably) Graffin's songs from the new album... but then again, maybe you don't mind. After all, he IS the Michael Moore of biology.

Happy to receive your news!!!
The devil in stitches partly collecting quotations in music history.
Quotations never heard in Bad Religion context.
So innovative but nevertheless familiar,
it's a great experience to come to the new album in this interactive way.
As if you had been rehearsing with us, holding the headphone over
to europe (right or left ear) : check it out!
Moreover - and now the private note:
Intuition yesterday afternoon at the car park of "Penny" supermarket
with regard to a Shakira tour poster: Greg: "Shakira, my Mona Lisa."
A man on a bicycle caused a flashback on the "revoir" while the concert in June.
Looking forward to seeing you again live this summer - maybe in Britain.

...right.... Well, I love the simplicity of the album cover, no matter what anyone says. What's with all this complaining? When did the writing of music become a group effort? I'm pretty sure the band can and will release whatever they want and feel regardless of what any of us say.
