While not among my favorite BR or punk albums in general, I do understand that this is an really good and influential record. I don't personally like the sound on the album and I would prefer faster pace, but still there are lot's of song that I like a lot on this album.

Favorite songs from Suffer:

Do What you want
Best for you
Pessimistic lines (possibly their best album closing song!)
Land of Competition
Delirium of Disorder
What Can You Do?

The one song that I really don't like is Part II (Index Fossil)... Just doesn't make me feel much...

The best album together with No Control and Against The Grain!

Suffer is definitely not one of my favorites. It's not bad, but I just barely listen the it. I can appreciate the songs, but I really have to force myself to listen to them.
So, today I sat down and listened the entire album so I could write something down in the thread.

I'm pretty amazed about the quality of the production. For some reason I always thought it sounded crappy, but it's absolutely the opposite. Again I must admit that the songs I've heard live are on top of my list of favorites. How Much Is Enough has really grown on me ever since I heard it during the sound check in Amsterdam last June. I think all song are pretty good, but I got an Suffer overdose after having heard this one pretty much every show I've seen the past years. I enjoy 1000 More Fools, How Much Is Enough, What Can You Do?, Land of Competition and Best For You.

The artwork is classic, but it doesn't top the covers of No Control and Against The Grain. I like the concept of the sufferboy, but the colors are a bit too "faded." Still, it's a nice piece of art!

Overall: good album, but I rather don't like to shuffle these songs (just like the first EP and HCHBAW) with the other albums.

Totally agreed!

I almost never listen to the original album itself but the live recordings of some of these songs I listen to are really, really good.

I don't like the suffer album very much (my least favorite of the trilogy) except for Part two, Part four, Delirium of disorder, and Pessimistic lines

I was born the year after this album came out, and while I don't wish to be older now than I already am, I wish I'd been around when the album was released.

It's a great album, one of their absolute best, no question. Don't know what else to say. The lyrics on the wall I think is really cool - something I wish I'd though of myself, hehe.

Yeah, I've been wondering this myself. What was it like when it came out?

I feel the same way about the artwork. Great concept, and I understand what sort of idyllic suburban images it tries to emulate, but I don't really like the colors of it. Fantastic artwork, but not as nice to look at :P

Fantastic album, a classic, it is an extremely important release for both Bad Religion and punk in general. A spectacular album both musically and lyrically. What else is there to say?

LOL!  I like how people write "nothing more need to be said"/"What else is there to say?" and more and more comments appear...

Actually, I think what I need to do is start listening to albums in isolation again. I'm too used to shuffling entire catalogue and focussing more on just the songs I lke.

The sound is generally a bit warmer than CD and there's more of a dynamic range to it, but most people probably wouldn't notice much of a difference and the CD still sounds pretty good. I just enjoy the ritual of putting the record onto the turntable and lowering the needle onto it.

I have the suffer-boy hoodie. When people ask me what the boy on fire means I say "he's suffering" What's wrong with him?  "He lives in a suburban neighbourhood with parents on an upper-middleclass income, two car-garage and a white picket fence around the house. Life is hard."

It seems like Suffer is where BR hit the target; and then continued on to make NC and ATG which were equally fantastic. A lot of the lyrics feel just as relevant today as they were back then. Timeless.

1000 More Fools, Land Of Competition and Best for You are stand out tracks and Do What You Want is a complete classic.

I also have that hoodie. People don't generally ask about it but I think I might use that answer if they ever do :)

Well, of course those songs pop up once in a while when listening all BR albums on shuffle, but most of the time I skip them because they just don't fit that well with the rest (this applies also to some songs of No Control, even though I like that one better). I think it's mainly a production/sound issue.

Anyway, I think this countdown is a perfect way to rediscover the albums all over again! :)

^Hmm... I think saying that he feels ostracized and alienated for his beliefs in his close-minded, upper middle class neighborhood sounds better. It makes it sound real poetic. :)

This album came out almost 4 years before I was born. And it's my favorite album of all time.

So the answer is "Yes" then?  :p

Yeah, I think I get what you mean. Even though it generally has the same band-performance-sound as NC and ATG, the recording and the songs seems to fit into their own little niche.  I think I discovered that a little while ago when I was having a random listen to the whole album.

Difinitely! And I should be using it to listen to each album as I drive to and from work :)
