I don't care what anyone says...this album is pure gold. Some of my favorite BR songs are on here. I think this release separates the BR fans from the punk rock fans- it isn't fast & aggressive so it put's off the people who are merely looking for a fast punk record. Thankfully, it IS a BR record....and it's one of Graffin's most intellectually moving (even if 1 or 2 of the tracks are a tad bit goofy.) 'The Voracious March of Godliness', 'At the Mercy of Imbeciles', 'Hear It', 'In So Many Ways', 'Sowing the Seeds', and 'Biggest Killer....' are all fantastic.

Hands down one of the most UNDERRATED albums by the band ever , they have to not stray away from playing songs off this album and the album following they are so relevant to society today .
Today on my ride I witnessed a guy complaining about how a so-and-so had lied. No longer will the market decide what the government should provide.

I completely agree with Brandon! It's an amazing album and I like almost every song on it. The only songs I don't like are Raise Your Voice (though it has one of the best video clips that matches the theme of the song) and Mediocre Minds.
Shades Of Truth has absolutely the best vocals ever: never heard Greg singing with so much emotion. I never understood why people don't like this album. Best songs of this album (most of them are also my favorite BR songs) are Shades Of Truth, Sowing The Seeds Of Utopia, The Voracious March Of Godliness, Strange Denial, The Same Person (I want to hear this one live!!!) and of course In So Many Ways. That last one is also one of the best album closers ever! I can easily listen this record on repeat.

The album art is in contrast with the music not that good. I do like the concept, but that picture of the band sitting on the couch and pretending they're watching television is just awful!

Anyway, this album is indeed underrated! In my opinion this was also the last BR album that really grabbed me when listening to it for the first time. None of the albums that were released after this one gave that same feeling of excitement.

Absolutely love this album. This was the first BR album that I ever bought.

The ONLY crappy track on the album is Mediocre Minds. And the only other track I skip is the State of the End of the Millennium Address, obviously, since it's not really a song.

At the Mercy of Imbeciles is a proto-Process of Belief song. It totally would have fit on the album. Though I'm glad it didn't because it's a weak song... the 2nd worst on the album.

Voracious March of Godliness was a prototype for their huge, epic songs they started making later on The Empire Strikes first and New Maps of Hell. Great song, so fucking suspensful.

All Fantastic Images and Raise Your Voice are the only other mediocre songs on the album. Raise Your Voice pretty catchy but super fucking repetative, and that gets annoying real fast. The video, however, was probably one of their better videos. I think it's one of the few BR videos that actually adds to the message of the song - the whole part where everyone is blindly following each other committing suicide off a balcony, but at the end one guy decides to "raise his voice" and decides to take off the mask that represents his blind conformity.

The album has a couple masterpieces. The main one being In So Many Ways, and the runners-up including Shades of Truth and Strange Denial.

No Substance is the other strong song on the album, but then again most title tracks are, except for The Empire Strikes First.

I don't get why people don't like The Hippy Killers; that's one of my favourites along with In So Many Ways and The Same Person. I also like Biggest Killer, but the rest of the album just doesn't appeal to me.

I really like this album, except Raise Your Voice which I usually end up skipping. Strange Denial, In So Many Ways, Hear It, Shades of Truth and The Voracious March of Godliness are the standout tracks to me.

I look at Raise Your Voice as an anthem .

I actually like 'Mediocre Minds'...I listened to it all the time until "someone" made a reference to "yummy yummy" the other day and now I crack up every time I hear 'Mediocre....' even though I still like it haha

My least favorite BR album (not including live albums and compilations) although I don't think it's a bad album, but  a decent one. I don't like Raise your voice, Mediocre minds, State, At the mercy of imbeciles ( the chorus is excellent but I can't stand the verse), Strange Denial and Victims.

I like it a lot and can't understand why it's so hated along with NA, do people get money if they say the album sucks? What's so bad or different on it?

Everyone has said pretty big words about it so far, though.  I don't get and don't like the artwork.

I'm glad they made this album. It shows a different side of bad religion. And I don't get it that lots of fans and band members don't like this. I think a song like "shades of truth" is just as good as infected. I agree with neil davis that At the mercy of imbeciles could have been a POB song. Just like sowing the seeds isn't any different from a POB song.

The weakest BR album imo, but still not bad. What makes many people hate it i think is the less fast tracks than usual, and also that most of the fast tracks are the weakest part of this album. Most of the slow melodic tracks are great, but several of them get a bit repetitive with too many choruses or too long outros, and those songs would be great if they had been shorter or had one more different part.

I think the production-sound of this should be one of the best in br records. Clear sounding but still very alive, not losing it's energy or rawness (if it does sound like it at times it's probably some tracks being softer/slower that usual BR). Also some of the melodies here are very different than other albums and great, i can't say better or worse.

My ranking here:
In So Many Ways                        9/10
The Same Person                     9/10
Hear It                                           9/10
Strange Denial                            9/10
Dream Of Unity                            8/10
No Substance                              8/10
Sowing The Seeds Of Utopia    8/10
Shades Of Truth                          8/10
Victims Of The Revolution          7/10
The Hippy Killers                          7/10
All Fantastic Images                    7/10
The State Of The End Of The Millennium Address   7/10
The Biggest Killer In American History                        7/10
Mediocre Minds                                                                6/10
The Voracious March Of Godliness                              6/10
Raise Your Voice                                                              6/10
At The Mercy Of Imbeciles                                               6/10

I can't decide which album is worse; this or The New America. There are a couple of good songs, but overall this is their most uninspiring record. And I agree with many about the art work, it's just awful...

I really like this album.  Again, the only song I'm not keen on is raise your voice, mainly because of the "fa fa fa fa" part.

Hear It, Shades of Truth, Sowing the Seeds of Utopia, In So Many Ways and No Substance are my favourites.

I absolutely love the Oozin Aahs on this CD!

My first BR record.  Its why I am here typing this today.

Otherwise I've got about the same idea of it as Neil.

One of Bad Religions best albums. Like I've said a million times before,  i must stress, it has some of the most catchiest riffs. I mean, cmon, listen to that No Substance riff, so good. The Shades of Truth bass riff is so hard for me not to hum along to. The strange denial riff is simply amazing, i get excited every time it starts out of nowhere. the riff in the chorus of the biggest killer and the riff in the chorus of hippy killers O.O. you get what I'm saying. This is my number 1 favorite album. I can listen to it from start to finish all day and never get bored of it. I don't like how people throw this into the category with New America. This album is nothing like The New America. Sure NS has some upbeat songs like In So Many Ways, Sowing The Seeds Of Utopia, Raise Your Voice or Mediocre Minds but they will never come anywhere close to New Americas Upbeat Pop Punk Music.
