Looks like good ol' Epitaph legends Pennywise are finally returning to the recording studio for their next album! I didn't take to the last album, Reason To Believe, and the previous album, The Fuse, certainly left something to be desired. With any luck, new frontman Zoli Telgas will breathe new life into this awesome band. Are you guys excited? Do you not care about 'em anymore? What's your opinion?

Side note: About Time and Full Circle are fucking spectacular albums.

Changing the singer seems odd to me.

Jim left them to form The Black Pacific, which still sounds like Pennywise.

I love pennywise, maybe most is nostalgia, but I enjoyed reason to believe and enjoyed the Black Pacific.  Add to that Zoli is a hell of a (at least studio) vocalist and Fletcher's guitar sound is a ton of bricks --- I'm thinking this will be the best non-Propagandhi punkish album of the last half dozen years

Zoli rules, but as I said before I don't need any more of Pennywise, no matter who's singing. Zoli should do another Ignite album. Last time I listened through a whole PW album was a year ago when we got wasted with my bandmates and decided get nostalgic and listen to About Time, which is the ultimate skate punk album IMHO. Tried listening through Full Circle 5-6 months ago, enjoyed the first songs but it got wayyyyyyy to boring after 7 or 8 songs. Unlike BR and NOFX, Pennywise will always be something I used to like when I was 15 years old.
Needs a sense of relevance or something to rebel against.

I did not really care about what they did recently. I'm not convince that Zoli Teglas fits in Pennywise though I like Ignite too.
But I hope this album will be a good surprise anyway.

Jim's voice was never particularly good and his lyrics are trite and juvenile.  I'm with Muu.  Great introduction to punk rock, loved it as a teenager....but it can stay in nostalgia land.

I think you confuse them with NOFX then you can talk about juvenile lyrics ,some at least =)

NOFX:Juvenile subject matter   Pennywise:Juvenile lyric composition.  i think they covered every word that rhymes with Society in their catalog. Perhaps this meme i created will help...

I have to agree with Frod and Grav and Muu. I liked the first several PW records. After Full Circle, the band just became a pop-punk cliche. Jim seemed to create a template for each song: Mad intro, crazy drums, sing about society, a few background vox, more singing about society, complain that there aren't enough skateparks, outro, next song.
Luxury was priviledge and I knew it all along. But to let human reason get trumped by emotion is wrong.

PW definitely lost their ground after Straight Ahead, though Land of the Free had its high points, and I honestly really enjoyed Reason to Believe, I think a huge loss in momentum came from Fletcher as (If I am not mistaken) he is the key writer and his riffs got super redundant, and he would veto many of Jims ideas he wanted to incorporate with PW.
Black Pacific had some wicked tunes, I personally see Jims newfound freedom to write freely being a freeing factor in his new band free from Fletchers freedom-crushing veto power.
Just a thought, guess we'll see.

I didn't care too much for land of the free--Fuck Authority is one of my least favorite Pennywise songs, and the music video is awful--but I found From The Ashes to be pretty solid in comparison. Still not as good as Straight Ahead, though. Definitely their last awesome record.

Reason to Believe was a really good album and, it also sounds a lot like Black Pacific musically,  I don't buy that Jimbo couldn't get anything through seeing as the lyrics on Black Pacific were the same damn thing again.  I really enjoyed Black paciifc.  But c'mon son, there is no comparison between the song writing and (studio) voice they are getting.  The big Z gets into the stereotypes (as does Graffin and Mr. Brett and everyone else) but some of his songs are on another plane of lyric writing.

I'm really looking forward to this: Fletcher is still one of the best guitar sounds in music

Pennywise also has one of the best rhythm sections, one of the best Guitar sounds i've ever heard in music and are getting a top notch singer.  Every punk fan should be salivating at what this could produce for 3 or 4 albums
