Well definitely Rancid and BR, and The Clash (at least just on London Calling).
Hard to judge perceptions of melody, as some see bands as more melodic than others. I might get flack for my judgement, but I'm gonna say Descendents. As for melodic stuff like hardcore and ska-oriented material, definitely Minor Threat and Operation Ivy, and perhaps The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Skankin' Pickle. |

Well, isn't Punk melodic anyway ? There are millions of good "melodic" punk bands.. but it really depends on what you like...
You could check awesome bands such as The Dopamines or Dear Landlord, Autistic Youth, The new Screeching Wease record is pretty awesome... The Gamits is a fantastic band too, their record "Parts" is highy underrated...

Compared to Bad Religion every other punk band is less melodic for sure. Melodic punk albums I have on my mind right now: Descendents - Cool to be you, Dear Landlord - Dream Home.

I'm just going to throw it out there that I think the Descendents are pretty damn good.

Just look at the Fat Wreck roster from the early 2000s. Pulley, Lagwagon, No Use For A Name, Tilt, Strung Out, Bracket, Swingin' Utters, Snuff, Me First & The Gimmie Gimmies...

I agree with pretty much all of the above - here's a few more. Husker du, Gorilla Biscuits, Rise Against, and 7 Seconds.

Basically any band from the mid 80's - mid 90's that said at one point, "our influence(s) is/includes Bad Religion" they may well be a band on that list.

Most of melodic punk bands are boring, if you see melodic punk as 90's and 2000's BR and NOFX ripoff sound. And I've never cared for Gorilla Biscuits or 7 Seconds either. BR, NOFX, Ignite and Good Riddance is more than enough of that stuff for me.
But if you mean albums like Milo Goes to College (by Descendents) or Vicious Circle (by Zero Boys) the melodic punk = probably the best shit ever.

Don't get me wrong--Milo Goes To College is one of my top 10 albums of all time, it's hard to reach perfection and they come almost as close as humanly possible. Just not sure how some regard melody when it comes to music groups. A lot of people get really obnoxious and are the first to announce I'm wrong if they think there's a remote chance that my opinion is different from theirs, so I try not to step on toes. Government Warning and Classics of Love put out seriously kickass melodic hardcore EP's, I seriously recommend checking 'em out. |

I honestly don't know. I was talking about bands that have songs with a lot of nice harmonies and good singing(instead of screaming) like BR, Adolescents, Descendents, Dag Nasty, Husker Du or even The Misfits.
