I've postponed it for a long time, but the forum software has now finally been updated. New features (from what I've seen so far):
- Recognizes mobile devices and adjust the way the forum is displayed accordingly. Also Android 2.2 users should now be able to post in the forum (but only in the mobile view)
- Ability to rate topics
- Ability to 'thank' forum posts. It looks like this has affect on a new 'Points' counter underneath everyone's avatar.

Known bugs (that I need to fix):
- The auto-return option that should take you back to the page from where you clicked the 'Login' link doesn't work yet.
- Some style/formatting issues
- Uploaded images (e.g. avatars) aren't there yet. It's a lot of small files, so it will take me a little while to re-upload them.
- Profile Pages are still default; they should soon show details again about collections, visited shows, etc.

If you guys encounter new functionality or bugs, just let me know. Thanks!

Thanks Marty!

One thing, the new software doesn't seem to like the comments in the news section.

I was going to upload a screenshot, but it looks like that doesn't want to work at the moment either...

The "thanks" button is cool, but it seems like it has broken the member rank system. Everyone (except admins/mods) shows up as "Incomplete" now. Maybe the software counts points now instead of number of posts.
Also, I don't like those like/share buttons under each thread. I don't want facebook / google / whoever to collect data about which threads I read here.

Oh, and "Edit Profile" seems to be broken:

Is it possible to make it count posts instead of points? Also it doesnt seem to have as many posts per page can you make it more?

Well it looks a lot better. I'm not sure about the thanks button thing. People would probably end up using it as a "like" button, which is a pretty irritating feature on some sites, IMO.

One question: What is the set "Set As Answer" button I'm seeing in the Post Options drop box? Anyone know?
Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself. It's made up of two separate words: "mank" and "ind." What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

I guess it's a moderator thing. Apparently it does that.

Right. Only the forum mods are able to set a reply as an Answer.

Same as with the 'Thank" option, I'm not sure yet if we need to keep this stuff. They're both configurable, so they can be disabled if we want to.
On the other hand, especially in long topics (e.g. Ask Jay) it could be useful if good replies can easily be identified when scrolling through a lot of bullshit. Also, both options allow people to get more points.. so they will get their precious crossbusters faster by posting something good.

Okay, I just went through the latest Ask Jay thread and marked most of Jay's answers with this new option. Two issues I've noticed with it: 1) when a post is marked, a duplicate of it is placed at the beginning of the thread. This might create a problem because the duplicates make the first page extremely long. I'm guessing people with slower computers won't appreciate that. 2) The option doesn't appear in the drop box on the top post of any page. I'm guessing that any post in the top position is being treated like it's the original post.
