I only ask because those albums are the least favored today, but how were the songs received then?

agent,

BR's no substance tour date in chicago was at a 21 and over club on my 20th birthday, only time i've used a fake id in my life.

at the time i was pretty stoked on NS, but back then i probably would have defended a BR album made up solely of harmonized farts as "experimental and daring" and viewed it as a collectors' item.

anyway, the NS show was pretty great because while they did play a little over half the album (hear it, all fantastic images, biggest killer, hippy killers, in so many ways, sowing the seeds,), they also played stuff like Henchman and skyscraper on that tour, and they were playing part III a lot as well back then.

the New America show, they played 4 songs from the album plus the fast life. the rest, stuff like

*against the grain bass only intro version* and a healthy mix of other stuff. this was a little surprisingly because up through empire, they generally have played 2/3 to 3/4 of the newest album (this kinda stopped when NMOH came out), but for this new america show it was a nice mix of everything excluding into the unknown, no substance, and a lot of new america. i do remember that greg's vocal's were a little too low in the mix for that show. but it was an awesome day because chicago's first public concrete skatepark had its grand opening earlier that day, which i attended, and then i got to see BR tear it up

plus, they opened with the awesome alternate opening of don;t sell me short

i liked watching hippy killers live, hear it and in so many ways. pulled off pretty decently and i remember greg getting a little goofy and playing on the cymbals during the lull/mellow part of hippy killers

new america show them opening w/ dont sell me short was awesome. after drinking several beers and buying several cigs off an older, mulleted BR fan from Indiana i had to pee and heard hopeless housewife while peeing and remember being irritated that i was missing this new song live

I had an awesome BR girlfriend in the 90's and that relationship got pretty toxic and ended by the time TNA came out, so I always really liked 1000 Memories; it felt like my favorite band ditched the politics just in time to meet a particularly unpleasant emotional time for me. And mercifully, for just like, one song.

They should start play at least one song from NS and TNA on regular basis like they do with the rest of the albums . I like those 6 songs BTW. I should have been born in the 60s or 70s :)

I saw then over 10 times in the 90's.One of the things that stand out for me was when they played a song from the name of each album in order from HCHBAW to TGR.Pretty fuckin cool

First BR show I saw was in Edmonton in 96 I think it was with NOFX and GreenDay, such a great show, Edmonton had a good punk scene for such a long time, best shows were always up there. Then in 98 in Calgary with Strung Out and Belvedere and that was the first time I got to meet Jay by hanging around outback of the arena, thought if it worked for Eddie Vedder it should work for me. Wish I had the chance to see more of them in the nineties, but I also got to see some amazing BR concerts in Ontario and Quebec from 2000 and on. And Jay will always be a super rad guy for letting my broke ass in numerous times.

According to a popular website BR didn't play Irvine in 1998 so I'm pretty sure you're lying, which is unfortunate, because you seem very nice.

My shows from the 90's:

08/02/1998 - Asbury Park, NJ, United States (No Substance/Warped Tour)
05/14/1998 - Cambridge, MA, United States (No Substance)
09/13/1996 - Asbury Park, NJ, United States (Gray Race)
04/19/1996 - Asbury Park, NJ, United States (Gray Race)
04/17/1996 - New York, NY, United States (Gray Race)
11/19/1994 - New York, NY, United States (Stranger Than Fiction)

These were all great shows. I am actually partial to the Gray Race shows based on the variety/energy in the setlists and the great opening acts (particularly the Dance Hall Crashers).

My first show on the Stranger Than Fiction tour was a great way to pop my BR cherry on the day before my 16th birthday.
