The Bad Religion Stranger Than Fiction actually is the one that they refer to in this movie.
One of the first pages of the screenplay draft says:
The following appears on screen:
"Life is the crummiest book I ever read" -- Bad Religion

The Spoon song playing in the background is from the "Gimme Fiction" album. Sony is so clever!

I liked the New America video too, but it made BR seem childish, and more like sell-outs.

This has nothing to do with Sony abusing their rights over BR's stuff. Ya, they have and probably will continue to. But I'm pretty sure anyone can quote 6 words you've written, said, or sung without owning rights to anything or paying you anything. If I say: "The misunderestimated me." do I have to pay a royalty to George Bush? No!

What's wrong with the punkrocksong dvd and/or cd? Fans who don't have internet can finally listen to the b sides and watch the videoclips. And I liked the new america video.

Can you not remember the Punk Rock Songs DVD?
Can you not remember the Punk Rock Songs CD?
Can you not remember the video for The New America?
(Can somebody else add to the list?)

this is probably the second in a long line of sony taking advantage of their ability to use BR stuff between 1994 and 2000 (hence 21st century digital girl). up next is grand theft auto: the streets of america, only on playstation 3. you heard it here first.

Sadly, they do. That's why that bastardized version of 21st Century Digital Boy exists.

Well, doesn't Sony own the rights to Bad Reilgion's Stranger than Fiction record? That's probably why they used it and quoted Bad Religion, because they can.

They credit Bad Religion, but they play a Spoon song instead. Kind of strange.

Maggie Gyllenhaal is a good actress though her brother is a hella lot better. I loved them both in Donnie Darko. Joey Ramone sings "Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction" in his song Venting. That's a great tune.

That's sure Neil, but on the site they quoted ''Sometimes truth is stranger than ficton.''
Surely they're not the first to say that, but to record and sing it on a song, yeah.

well if you want to get really technical, i'm sure the phrase "Stranger than fiction" has been around for a great many years before Bad Religion

I hope Sony is invoking Bad Religion for a good cause this time, rather than what seems to be their usual bastardizations.
