Well, I'll be damned... like all new BR releases, I despised the song on the first listen, really liked it on the second, and now have played it about 20 times trying to appreciate every minute detail of it. One thing bugs me, if you listen right at 1:02, you'll hear what sounds like a mistake in the meter. I don't get it. What's up with that? It sucks. Overall though, I love this song (it's this album's Broken or LA is Burning, it's got to be). I don't think it sounds anything like Boot Stamping, you guys are crazy for saying that.

Is it just me or this song sounds like something off Joey Cape/Lagwagon from the Double Plaidinum/Let's Talk about Feelings era ? (in a good way)

really the only thing that bothers me a little is the lyrics. And not even nonsensical Brett lyrics (they generally have a poetic quality I can respect, like Generator) simply the fact that one of the rhyming couplets (leading INTO the chorus no less!) is -mean/-means! thats pretty inexcusable.

The more I listen to it the more I like it but it is definately a very! radio friendly song in general. I love the off beat drumming from Brook a lot I must say.

Thats true (supersonic as well) but usually these are two independent lines and don't "play off one another" so much. I think it is just applying the sound in a slightly different way. I also think it's about half effective, because neither line really makes too much sense (but then it's a brett song, none of the lyrics make too much sense :P)

And why the hell am I responding to someone named FuckGregGraffin? Also Bad Brett, I believe that Greg singing agaisnt the back-vocals is one of BR trademarks. Think American Jesus, Handshake, Inner Logic, Shattered Faith, etc.

Actually, the chorus reminds me the STEP BACK (STEP BACK!) part from Streets of America. And what's so bad about making generalizations? I would have been pretty disapointed if this song was #1 on the list, but seeing that it comes later on the album, I assumed it was one of the slower songs, therefore not representing the whole pace of the album.

Of course, more songs probably mean faster songs, not a longer disc, so side 2 may have a little episode of speed after the opener, but i'd wager the last 4 songs of this disc will function just like the last 4 on Process and Empire.

The trick is to think of BR albums in terms of vinyl, cause they do. songs 5-7 are the closing of side one and the opening of side2. So, typically, side one opens with 1 blistering opener (like 52 seconds?) 2-3 more fast songs, followed by a midtempo and the slower "pop epic" to close out the side (LA is burning). Then side 2 consist mainly of slower and midtempo songs, generally bookended by more aggressive midtempo songs with maybe a faster one thrown in (like God's love). of course these are very general trends, there are many exceptions, but for new era BR (especial TPOB and TESF) it is the case. Open with speed, close the side with the pop song, and then put the slower songs on side too, but open and close it with the higher energy numbers

By the way, have you noticed how Brett has started to make these choruses with the band talking to Greg? The Defence, The Empire Strikes First and now Honest Goodbye.

Bigbang, I'll defend myself as to the Streets of America comparison. That was based on hearing only the last half of the song - almost no lyrical content - while my printer was running at full speed and not being able to turn my radio up too high lest the people in the next office start ragging on me. It was mostly to point out it was a slow song. It very well may be the album's "radio friendly" entry, which is why it was leaked first. I'm still diggin' it big time.

Hey BigBang, how do you notice things like the way they order the sequence of their songs? That was a huge generalization, was it not? To say that br puts all songs with more swing and less thrash smack in the middle of a disc seems so ... I don't know... and I don't care to test the idea. *dies*

This is definetly the catchy pop-sounding song of the album, maybe like Broken was for POB or LA is Burning was for TESF. I think this song is #7 on the song list, and songs from 5 to 9 are generally slower paced songs on BR albums (LA burning, Infected, The Answer, Another Abyss, Sanity, Faith Alone, Struck a Nerve, Whispers in time, Sorrow, etc). I dont think it sucks at all and I guess it will fit very well in the new album, and I still expects a lot of fast-paced shreding songs (probably songs 1 to 5, like they did with the two previous albums). I also noticed Greg's voice sounds really healthy, which is a good sign.

Come on now, it's not a bad song. Is it reminiscent of Boot Stamping? yes. Did Boot Stamping suck? yes. Is it a little soft? yes. Does it seem like it would fit in on No Substance? yes. Is that bad? not necessarily. But it is catchy and Heroes and MArtyrs indicates harder, faster stuff as well. It will be a good album, don't worry.

I think it's awesome how this is another "link" to the time when Bad Religion started out (like the album title and the cover); KROQ was one of the first stations if not the first station that played songs off their first EP. Now they are the first ones to play songs off of this record.

Yeah. I think it's incredibly pop-esque, and considering they were talking about having a whole CD of "raw"/"rough" (whatever) punk tracks, back when it was gonna be a double album, this song's quite surprising. The whole, "we do punk songs with poppy/catchy choruses" seems to lean in favour of the poppy/catchy part on this tune. Anyway, I like it. As you say, new Bad Religion. Still, I hope there's some Old Bad Religion on the album.

i used to live in l.a., and just so you all know, jed's catch of the day isn't part of the regular rotation. he just plays whatever song he wants, unaffected by requests/playlists. the rest of the kroq playlist is prob made out by infinity, so we'll have to wait until the song is actually added to the playlist before the requests will have any effect (on kroq, at least).

we obviously cant, but thats cool, its fun to hunt for new songs.

I get it: no more requests. KROQ has hooked in a fairly high volume of people to their station: me being one of them. It's a good station and I'll play them often. However, this is the start of a new relationship, so if their sales mentality pisses me off too much...it's over. Over!

I'm currently recording a broadcast of Jed The Fish's "Out of Order" show. It's a 2 hour countdown that also features a catch of the day and is supposed to include new releases. This is it's first airing since the supposed KROQ appearance. Hopefully he'll spin it again.

Yeah, I'm sure it will be great too. I haven't been this excited for an album release in a looooong time. I can barely stand the wait. So, if we don't know what time in the day they're gonna play it on monday (if at all), we're pretty much gonna have to organize some sort of watch to make sure we don't miss it again. You know, like listen in shifts, and make sure at least one person is listening to KROQ thought the day. I'll try and listen from 5:00 - 9:00, but my wireless network has been acting funny lately, so no guarantees, unfortunately.

ikillkenny: Not a rumor :) Right after I read Smarti's post on the myspace group I went to KROQs website and click on Jed the Fish's (the DJ) page. It said right there his 'catch of the day', which happens everyday at 3:40p, was Honest Goodbye.. with a picture of the new album cover.

it was actually played palst friday as well, the guy who works AnR to the label my band is sigined with is based in california, and he called me to tell me he heard it. late that night i bumped into a friend of mine at a show, he told me how he just interviewed mr brett a few days ago. he als interviewed graffin a few years back. needless to say i was jealous

KROQ is in LA so there's still about an hour until 9 PM LA time. Assuming they actually played the song (and it wasn't just a rumor), I would suspect that they would be playing it then.

I am sure this song will show up again, very soon. The leak will probably also be in process as magazines etc. should receive promo copies within the next 8 weeks.

So I assume they still didnt play it seeing how know one has commented about it yet, damn. Hopefully one of you stays up and gets it recorded if they end up playing it.

I'm still awake, listening to TESF. -_- Personnally, I don't mind hearing a few songs before release. As long as I don't listen to them too much like I did with LA is Burning, then I'll be ok.

I personally don't want to know too much of the material prior to the album's release. I would like to hear the studio version of Heroes and Martyrs, and that's it. For me, that is. I can resist the rest for a little while.

I requested another 15 times and sent the DJ an email saying people from all over the world were staying up to listen to her show, so maybe she'll play it! I'll try record the whole thing: 7-10 Pacific time. But it would help if someone else could do it as well, just in case.

YEah i checked, i don't think any stations pick up Jed The Fish's weekday feed, so I think we're SOL on that one. Furious 5 airs in a little over 4 hours...so keep requesting and see if we can do some damage!

Over here it's 12:40 and I have school tomorrow at 9 yet I'm still staying up until 1 to see if they play Honest Goodbye. ...Or is it 2? I get my timezones wrong. :(

One suggestion, at 9pm Pacific Time, they do a block they call the Furious Five at Nine, which is the five most requested songs of the day. It may show up there. I won't be able to listen as I'll be in class.

I've been doing the same off and on all day. And i have yet to find any confirmation on the KROQ site.

Im listening to KROQ online stream right now, and have been for the past hour+. I have Goldwave open to record it if it comes on. I might be only listening for a little bit more so don't expect anything.

It wasn't announced before hand, Catch of the Day never is. Perhaps somebody out there was lucky enough to catch it....

Well obviously there is a promo out, with at least one song and probably a few more (I'd wager HEroes and Martyrs if they are playing that live, and maybe another track or two.) There were rough mix promos for no Substance, so they may not even be the final mixes. I would think it is still too early to expect anyone outside the record label having the full album in any form.

Some radio station should already have a copy of the album...The whole thing should leak pretty soon...I rembember having a copy of the new america 2 month before the release date...It always leak...We must find it ! Come on guys !

I heard half of it. My printer was loudly running, so it was about halfway through before I recognized Greg's voice. I missed most of the lyrical content, except for the refrain of "an honest goodbye" It's a slow song, the best comparison I could come up with was Streets of America (musically, not lyrically, mind you). It was very melodic, with lots of minor chords. I liked what I hear of it.
