Haha. Just for that, here's a thread I found with some links and info on how to convert flac to aac (which I assume is the format you want since you're on a mac):

i dont buy the shitty quality stuff sounds shittier in mp3 than in flac. even a regular cd rip will sound the same in mp3 as in
flac, when you use the right bitrate, the question is if there will be still the advantage in size. but the advantage of the flac is you can make a cd which is bit and bit the same as the original cd. anyway, to me it looks like the "scene" likes to believe "the shitty stuff is always better in flac" myth.

hahahah i sympathize, but just to reiterate, lossless is generally preferred specifically to MINIMIZE the degradation caused by compression algorithms on already distorted, clipped or otherwise degraded audio. ripping to mp3, it'll still sound like shit, and often shittier than the lossless version, much more markedly than the degradation when compressing a studio recorded file.

Maybe to touch on what has been previously said, you have to determine whether the 'lossless' format is really worth it considering most of the audio provided on this site was never high quality to begin with. (ex. concerts and interviews) The only thing I could imagine that the lossless crowd would enjoy would be a rip of an album or professionally recorded concert.
MP3 is just too easy and widely accepted. That aside, it's not a bad religion :)

I agree with the views expressed that having poor quality audio such as old interviews or badly recorded bootlegs in a lossless format is rather pointless, and a waste of space on your computer. However I'm not going to demand that anyone submitting content should do it according to my wishes, as I'm very grateful for what they have provided! But maybe it is worth considering if what you are sharing is worth putting in flac... Just maybe?

Actually, a better solution would be a FLAC plugin that can be used with previous winamp 5 versions as well as winamp 2.
And while later versions of winamp 5 cna play FLAC, with the plugin, your FLACs are treated as mp3's, so if you use Last.Fm, the flac's are recorded as being played; this is a huge plus imo:

LOL, Creighton, who are you apologizing to? You're the one who didn't get to hear the interview.

Compressing poor quality or distorted audio from lossless to mp3 or other lossy formats often makes it sound even shittier. Thats the whole reason why flac is preferred in bootleg and rarity trading cricles where audio quality isn't always ideal.
please keep sharing FLACs, but i guess with a lossy version for those who don't care. Thanks aki!

Ooh, just a thought for the future; remember how there used to be loads of BR stuff on Gmail and stuff?
Now google have a system called googlepages that lets you make your own site and upload files that can be direct linked to.
There's a limit of just 100MB per site, but setting up another account takes just seconds, and we could host loads of shows on it with each song individually downloadable without waiting times or having stuff removed.
Just a thought. :)

i agree, if the source is crappy, a losless format like flac just bloats up the size without any real hearable advantage.
