Apparently KROQ already started airing a song from The Dissent Of Man: The Devil In Stitches (written by Brett). So this might very well be the first single.
Here's a great quality version of the song on soundcloud.com. Thanks for the link Brett!!

There is no better thing for me than to listen to a new be track after such a long wait, with baited breath I turned up the volume and hit the play button. A fresh wave of bad religion washed over me giving me the same feeling I felt the first time I ever heard a br song, which was paralel. Devil in stitches is my opinion the most "bad religion" sounding track to come out for a long while. As much as I love the last two or three albums they did not have the br spark but after hearing the new one I'm happy to think the rest of the album is going to be awsome. Long live the kings of punk, long maybyhe open peoples eyes to all the wrings in this world!

I have been a big fan since 86 and as mentioned in a few posts the lyrics seem forced or almost out of place. IMO I really don't like the song that much and hope that there is much better to come on it.
I think back to when I first listened to the first three songs of "the process of belief" and I fell off my chair it blew me away.
I am not getting that feeling here. Have to wait and see.

i think the song is Fantastic. Can't stop listening to it. Lyrics are also top notch and easy to sing along with. Bad Religion needed more singles in the last album now they made it up with this masterpiece. Can't wait to see a video for it. Thank you Bad Religion. See you this fall.

I love it when Bad Religion changes stuff up. Its exciting, right? And who wants to hear the same thing over and over again? Point being, I'm fairly open-minded when it comes to this band, and I love it when they experiment. I'm not really digging this song though. I like some of their more folky or pop-sounding material. This is really, really poppy though. Maybe I'll have to listen to it more, but after 4 or 5 times now, I still can't get into it. I don't like how some of the lyrics sound crammed together. And worse, it reminds me of Bruce Springstein. I can't stand Bruce Springstein. One more thing that bothers me...its a pop-sounding song without a real strong hook. Pop is built on catchy choruses, isn't it? Sometimes a band can make a song without structure and really pull it off...I don't feel BR did with this one. I'm hoping it will grow on me, but at this point I'm doubting it will. I like Resist Stance though....and I'm still stoked about the album!
I agree 110% with your analysis. It seems crowded and poppy, but all of that is okay as long as it has a memorable chorus or hook. I'm not hearing one.
Bad Religion, especially Brett, has no problem writing hooks. But a song doesn't need one in order to be good. Not even a pop song. Sometimes you just gotta let the song flow.
I agree wholeheartedly with your first two sentences.
Personally, however, I can't sense a flow in TDIS.

Anymore hints, Brett? Why is the Devil in stitches? What's that supposed to mean (I'm assuming symbolically)?
Yeah, so far I think I understand all of the song to some extent except for mostly the lyrics in the chorus, such as who is the devil, why is he in stitches, and who is the chosen one who he is performing to? Question for Brett....How many takes did Greg have trying to spit out
" black tear stained cheeks behind her shattered window" ??? It took me about 40. Another great song in your library!! Anxious to hear all songs on the new alb.

I honestly don't think brett spends his time reading this shit. he has better things to do... like run epitaph.
Just because some of us dont like the song doesn't mean we dont appreciate the music. I dont expect them to make the same music over and over again. and I think brett will be just fine with some of his fans not liking whatever music comes out of this album. Its just honest feedback.

I honestly don't think brett spends his time reading this shit. he has better things to do... like run epitaph.
I'm just sorry Brett has to read all this crap about it not being a good song, just because BR isn't doing exactly the same thing over and over again.
Brett, just so you know, my girl Maggie, who never listens to BR, loved your new song too. I think it's great when a band tries new directions.
How would you react if the steak-fries you ordered would taste like sour milk. This is not what you would expect from such a good meal. Even if you try to like the new taste, well, you can't, because it doesnt taste good. Not because it's different, but because it does not taste good...

This hasn't really got that much to do with how you feel about the song, I think, but more with how it's expressed (by several, not just you). Everyone is of course entitled to an opinion and I'm glad we all can share ours here :) But enough with the hate, man. If you don't like it, fine, I just feel like we don't need all the complaints here.

I would never listen to music because of the lyrics only. The reason I usually like Brett's songs the most, is because he always has come up with catchy melodies. And I don't care in which direction his heading. I'm sure he could do good rap music if he wanted to.
The problem I'm having with this tune, and also "Won't Somebody", is that they seem ...rushed. The riff is simple, the melody is simple and the words don't even fit to the rhythm. Sombody compared this to Daredevils, but I actually think that Rules, Hearts and Hate You are much more interesting than TDIS... well not lyricswise maybe. Those songs contained some really interesting basslines and were mysterical in some way.
The new songs follow a very standard chord pattern, especially compared with many of the tunes on NMOH. My expectations are very high and so they should be, because Brett has delivered tons of good pop songs in the past and I know that he could come up with something a lot better than this. That's just a fact.
Hopefully the rest of the album will be a lot of the better. After all, American Jesus is undoubtly one of the most boring songs on Recipe For Hate. So maybe we get a new "All Good Soldiers" on this one.
Finally, it's great to see that Brett writes here. I'm looking forward to the release of another new song.

I would point out that I also thought the Devil could be a reference to drugs, but I wasn't sure.
Anyway, it's irrelevant, the song is great and that's all that really matters.

I'm definitely like this song more and more lyrically (that's what Brett and Greg dedicate most of their songwriting time to anyways, right?). To me, it's meaning (both line by line and collectively) is an intricate puzzle like Anesthesia was, except I think this one's a little harder to crack, I think.

Thanks man,
I'm on here all the time, but I don't really post unless I have something of substance to contribute...I've been doing that even since the old forum.
As for Devil in Stitches:
I really feel like I can relate to this song (whether I truly get Mr. Brett's meaning or not). To me it is a song about the struggle to find and a fall in love with someone that means the world to you...and the important decisions that we must come to along the way. You know...face the world together...ride the storm out....and what not (I feel like for Brett this probably means Gina and his decision to have a child together). The reason that I like that Brett and Greg follow their hearts in the songs that they write is that it makes their music seem real, instead of forced and fake.
So again, thank you Mr. Brett for following in what you believe in and sharing it with us all.

At first I thought that the song was just "Ok", had a hard time finding a strong melody in it. But now I've listened to it 50 times and think it's awesome. Better than Resist Stance, that still is only "ok" (could be better on the record though)...

Your opinion is completely valid, and I'm sorry if it seemed like I was insulting it - my only problem is with the comments that are like "I remember when BR used to write good music," or that people feel betrayed by the band just because one song doesn't fit their idea of what Bad Religion is apparently supposed to be.

so i know this is going to just sound like a total excuse and a bit of a cliche but i think it's way too premature to make critiques of the entire album based on one or two songs new songs.. Songs that we've heard totally out of context with the overall concept of the final album.
Let's just say I definitely can't see myself skipping this song ever when it comes on. It's undoubtably a joy to listen to. But again that's maybe me. But I know some bad religion songs that I know I tend to skip.
But heard within the space of the album it might serve as a must needed injection of levity into the proceedings.

Brett is undoubtly one of my favourite song writers and I think he headed in a really interesting direction with Honest Goodbye, so I'm a bit disappointed that this song sounds so ordinary. When he was talking about daring to try new things, I thought it would mean some more experimental stuff.
I read somewhere that BR compared this to Recipe For Hate, which so far doesn't make sense (except maybe the lyrics). RFH is like Industrial Grunge Punk Rock, with slide guitars, noise, Vedders, weird riffs and really strong melodies.
Hopefully, this means that the rest of the album is so experimental that they HAD to pick this song as the single. BR usually don't disappoint me.

The first listen I was a bit disoriented with the way the lyrics fit into the music (as some have mentioned). But once I got a few listens in and got the fit, so to speak, I did start to appreciate this song more.
I like that BR doesn't just stick to the same thing all the time. I mean, I love the NC, AtG, Suffer kind of stuff, but 14 albums of that and I'd have given up on BR long ago. TESF was a big favourite of mine for the shift they made on some of those songs. Their ability to try new things while also always keeping a bit of what is expected and fans crave is the show of their skill.
It's not my favourite Brett song, but it's good. I like the lyrics, but I wish they had more of an even flow and mix with each other.
From the 3 songs we've gotten a taste of so far, it looks like this will be another refreshing and yet well known album.
Hopefully you guys stop in Ottawa on the tour! If not, Montreal bound am I.

Good guess but no, I'm not the "Devil" in the song, I'm myself falling in love with Gina and vowing eternal love to her.
Ok - this is totally not a criticism - but people keep mentioning what songs this sounds like... and I haven't heard anyone else mention what popped almost immediately into my mind when I heard it: Drunk Sincerity. Yeah, I'm crazy, right? Listen to it, and try to sing the lyrics to Drunk Sincerity. Seriously.
Haha, you're totally right. I don't really think it sounds like it much, but it just fits together. To be honest, I was never a big fan of Drunk Sincerity. I just couldn't get into the sound of it. I don't hate it, I just don't like. But I still love this song, the Devil in Stitches.

Well, I've already expressed my mixed emotions about the song, but for some reason I've been putting this song on loop everytime I listen to music. It's really catchy, and I can see it growing on me.
But, as I said: It doesn't seem like a Bad Religion song. It's a good song, don't get me wrong, but this isn't what I come to Bad Religion for.
I won't be skipping this song on the album, though. Idonno. I'm all conceded and stuff.

It just doesn't go anywhere. The best poppy BR songs, regardless of tempo, tell a story and deliver it with energy. This feels like it was mailed-in. Still excited to have the preview, and not regretting pre-purchasing the album.

I'll back you on that - Does everyone hate Drunk Sincerity for being "poppy," too? I thought punk was an idea, not a style of music.
It was a weak song as well and I agree in the same vein; it went into one of my more favored songs so there was a payoff for not hitting next; hopefully we continue to get albums and not iTunes collections of tracks and when this piece is dropped into the puzzle it will make more sense.
I've also read a lot of Honest Goodbye references, I always like the grittiness of that song behind the slowness - the punctuation on words like sick, convict in the first half of the second verse and when it drops, 'hands so clean' That song has a totally different feel than this one; this is much more New America sounding.
Also, BR members jumping in and communicating with the hardcore fans is totally cool and good business in this day and age. Most of them are pretty sophisticated and should realize that polemics and criticism expose someone that cares --- Nietzsche doesn't rail against Kant and Socrates because they are irrelevant

I agree with that.. Some people may like the song, others may like it less, that's normal.. but the fact that he (Jay and sometimes the other band members too) takes some time to share info (and in this case a new song) with the fans, can just be appreciated, so thanks Mr. Brett

This guy is right. Despite all the bad things I said about this song, I'm very thankful to Brett to come here, give us a song plus the lyrics and actually asking for our opinions. This is great!

It's no Broken, Honest Goodbye or Los Angeles Is Burning when it comes to being radio friendly so I'm willing to bet this one doesn't get too much air time, no matter how much some of us like it. The chorus is good just as the solo (GREG HETSON!), but it just isn't catchy enough to be a huge hit. Not one of the three new songs has blown my mind, but after a few playthrougs I'm really liking this one (or maybe that's just because I had a few beers). i sure would sing this along live. Love the "right then he made a decision/ that's where they made a division"-line, don't really know why. Also love the fact that despite being a boss of a record label and a rock star Brett spends a few minutes sharing links and lyrics for his new song to the fans. It's these small things that matter.
Resist-stance, this one and Won't Somebody are all good songs, but none of them REALLY remind me why BR is the most awesome band ever (like Sinister Rouge, All There Is and Dearly Beloved did the first time I heard them).
Of course I'm pre-ordering the deluxe version, but for the first time since 2002 I don't really know what to expect from the new album.

I'm honestly surprised by some of the comments claiming that this doesn't sound like a Bad Religion song. To my ears, it fits easily into the mold established by Brett on other songs like Stranger Than Fiction.
Anyway, good tune! I enjoy Bad Religion's forays into styles besides straight-ahead galloping punk rock -- including more pop-oriented songs like this one.

I've been listening to it over and over again, to understand what i really thought of it. That's what i do with every BR song, even though i don't really like them at first. I think it's an ok song, but not what I expect from Bad Religion. If it was a Green Day song, on their latest album, it would the best song on there, but this is Bad Religion, and i have different and higher expectations from them.
I mentioned Green Day because they're considered the "big thing" in the pop- punk(?) scene, and I feel that this song tries to appeal to the fans of that music genre.
I really like the fact that BR keep experimenting to renew themselves, and no one should expect them to put out another No Control or Against The Grain, but i honestly don't like much the direction taken with this kind of songs.
Speaking of "experimental" BR songs (as in songs that didnt sound like anything they had made before) in my opinion "Beyond Electric Dreams" was one of the interesting experiments they've made recently.
Anyway, when i first heard Honest Goodbye, before hearing the whole album, i felt the same way i do now, but i ended up enjoying the album.. so I'm pretty sure the same thing will happen this time.
I just think that Mr.Brett has enough talent to make much more elaborate songs than this (which, i repeat, isn't a bad song, but just ok, for BR standards)
I I don't like how some of the lyrics sound crammed together.
Yeah, what I think. I don't blame BR for being pop, they've already been, and good things came out. I just think this is not even a good pop song, mainly for the reasons above.

Basically, they could put out psycho/trance folk record if they wanted to. You can not like it, that's cool. But stop saying it's not Bad Religion. Bad Religion decides what Bad Religion is.

I like it, its got kind of east coast feel to it. I can see how some people would be turned off from the poppiness, (is that even a word), but Bad Religion is one of the few bands who can pull it off. Can't wait for the album to come out.

you can't compare this site of bad religion fans to the casual rock music listener in Southern California. Go off of this site into the real world and you ask someone if they've heard of Bad Religion of the people that say yes... 9 of 10 will say oh yeah infected/sorrow/la is burning/New Dark Ages, rocks.
I don't think Devil in Stitches will fade quickly from airplay much as Honest Goodbye did then will be replaced with Resist Stance much like Honest Goodbye was replaced with New Dark Ages.
Point being, with every new Bad Religion album i'd love to hear a song that isn't the norm for them. Honest Goodbye was okay, boot stamping is an amazing song. Infected was different (for the most part) then anything they had done to that point and which is why coupled with moving to a major label they were labeled by ignorant punx as sellouts, yet Infected is the most popular song amongst casual BR fans...
*speaking solely for all of SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, which I have been given the authority to do so.

Here's the top five among fans on this site :
1. I Want To Conquer The World
2. American Jesus
3. Generator
4. You
5. Skyscraper
I'd say the most popular BR song among people in general is American Jesus. And if I had to chose between Infected and Devil in Stitches for a show or in the car or whatever, I chose Infected without any hesitation.

Maybe it never worked because pop songs do not fit BR spirit. The most popular songs among BR fans are not pop, and the songs getting the more punch in shows are certainly not Honest Goodbye, nor LA is Burning.
Today BR have nothing to prove. They're the most successful modern punk rock band (and maybe in the history), so why the hell would they want to get more famous with slow poppy tunes.

Well it's no secret that Brett has always wanted to write a successful pop tune. He's said as much in interviews, and while it may not be to yours or my taste, there's nothing wrong with having that goal.
It's probably a combination of band, label and radio as to what gets airplay. Pop(ular) music is what get's radio play. Pop is by definition what is in mainstream media.

Why does it always have to be the poppiest song that go single and that radio plays? Who decides that, the band or the radios? Personally, each time I wanted a friend to discover BR, I showed them songs like Conquer the World, Materialist, Tiny Voices, Skyscraper, You are the Government, All there is, even The fast life, and they (about 5 of my friends) became real big fans like me, buying all the album. It's not by seeing their poppy song on MTV/MuchMusic/Commercial radio that it will happen.
Also, many people became big BR fans listening to You in Tony Hawk pro-skater game, which isn't a pop song and is rather provocative, aggressive and dark. There was also Crazy Taxi with Hear it (which I consider to be the best song on No Substance and one of the best openers in all the albums) and 10 in 2010. Those songs are not pop, they are real punk.
Someone who hears Devil in Stitches as their first BR song and loving it might be very disappointed by all their other albums (but TNA maybe).
Sorry for the long post, but I'd like to hear your opinions about this.

GG´s effort to sing this song is enough for me to think that itt´ll be a memory soon. Too poppy. Just an opinion though....

I feel like it's time to sound in.
Just like every other album, the first single is the poppy, pipe-dream, experimental, mid-tempo rocker. It ALWAYS stands apart on the album, yes it is usually my least favourite track as well, and for some inexplicable reason it is always the lead single.
However that said, if we stand Devil in Stitches against it's equivalents from the last 3 albums, I enjoy it way more than Honest Goodbye or LA, and even Sorrow (in it's original studio incarnation).
So really, slag it if you want. But given the track record, this song makes me very excited for the new album, because I actually quite enjoy this song, and historically it should be the song I enjoy least. If that's true this time this album will be mind-blowing.

There's a huge difference between "non punk" song in Generator, STF, RFH and this new song. Man with a mission, for example, is very folkish. That's what BR is all about. Stranger than fiction is rather punk, with great lyrics. Maybe I could have been whining about All Good Soldiers, but not for the same reasons. This was a real experiment and wasn't pop. About Generator well... I always thought this album was really punk.
Devil in stitches is a good song, but not a good Bad Religion song. It's better than most of the modern crap, but I would have expected more from BR. But it's ok, it's my opinion and I'm sorry if I look like everyone should have it, it was not my point. I think I was just angry, mostly because listening to Ouverture/Sinister Rouge right after Devil in Stitches made me realise I didn't love the song at all...

Funny to see that it's so inconceivable for some that everyone doesnt love it immediatly. I'm still not a huge fan of Generator; Better off Dead or The Defense, but I quite like Broken and Empire Strikes First and love Fields of Mars & Man with Mission. This song reminds me of Infected with the poppyness of Sorrow but I don't find it particulary catchy.
Personally I would love to see how Generator, Recipe For Hate and Stranger Than Fiction would have been received by the fans if the internet back then was like it is right now (you know, with every single person having an obnoxious and provoking opinion about everything).
I bet people would have complained the same when, for example, the songs Man With A Mission, Atomic Garden or Stranger Than Fiction would have been streamed early...
haha, this is so true! I complained heaps (to myself) when I first heard Stranger Than Fiction. I was so disappointed, but the more I listened the more I liked. Now it's one of my favs. I don't like Devil in Stitches, but don't really see the point in complaining. Somewhere down the track, I'll probably get into it just like I've (finally) got into The Empire Strikes First and Honest Goodbye.

"I wish Greg wrote all BR songs"
we had that, and it didnt turn out nearly as good as all the albums where both were writing the songs...
actually this is the first time i hear someone even posting that opinion, which lets me think you have no idea about bad religion or music at all.
or may i say "troll"?

I'm with Marty on this one....especially with many songs from RFH which I love and are now considered classics which at the time either were not (or now would not) well received with many people. I don't know...maybe I'm just a fan boy....but this song has really grown on me.

Its not the worst song they have ever written....but this is so soft and a little generic I find. This sounds like it should have come out in 2003 with Simple Plan type bands...

The chorus reminds me of King's Highway by Tom petty
The breakdown before the solo reminds me of Jesse's Girl
And the verse is the Daredevils
I've listened to it half a dozen times, it is fine, I'm not going to run to the cd player to skip it when the album comes out, but the music is rather mundane for BR.
We need a rocker (a nice old fashion tempo changer would be sweet tits too)

Wonder though who made the artwork for this album... And who decided it..
It prolly take me some time to adjust and accept it. Doesn't really seem to
scream BR at my face somehow...
BTW.. Does that apple stand for temptation in some way?......
Resist Stance has a really clever title, but the song itself is super campy. Almost bad religion is doing a parody of itself and the punk genre. Kinda like the self titled track from TESF.
I like Resist Stance, but it is not the type of track that will make an album for me, this new song does not cut it for me at all as far as a bad religion song goes, so thats two down, I'm hoping that Devil in Stitches is the outlier, and Resist Stance is surpassed by half the ablum, which, I imagine they will be.

Wow, it just doesnt sound like a BR song to me in a sense. I definitely prefer gregs song writing. The song is pretty good, but i can see myself skipping it when listening to the album. I'm not really into the lyrics either.

Concerning the drum sound in BR records...... with all due respect : are you guys insane??? :P
The drum sound on TESF is sooooo incredible! It basically set the bar on how drums are supposed to sound like on a modern punk record.
I'd say the production values on this song (Devil in Stiches) are GREAT because it sounds amazing as a whole. Nothing is over-dominating the mix and the compression isn't as violent as in NMoH.
Great job Joe & Brett, thanks a million!
Oh, and the song is beautiful, I love it.

I'm not sure how I feel about this song... it's a little poppy, but not really. It just doesn't seem like a Bad Religion song to me, but rather it seems more like a Daredevils song.

billy
sanity
the defense
automatic man
marked
delirium of disorder
skyscraper
i want something more
the devil in stitches

I don't normally go against people like this and i certainly try not to go against someones personal opinion but to me this comment about wishing Greg wrote all the songs needs addressing. Brett is my favourite member of the band but even if he wasnt I still can;t believe you would only want Gregs songs, Bad Religion are only half the band with out Brett, this isnt my opinion this is fact, look at what happened when he left!! I am in no way taking away from what Greg does, he is vital to the band but without Greg we would miss out on true lyrical Jesus, the man who is resposible for most of Bad Religions popish numbers and a huge amount of their more abstract work. My favourite lyrics and flow of any song punk or not is Dont Pray On Me. I even got lyrics painted onto a picture which hangs on my wall. I could ramble all night about Brett and although i know my post will probobly not change Petters view I thought i should at least show my support to one of the, if not THE most underated song writters and lyricists of our times, just to add one more thing, people should list some of Bretts songs they love and if any Bad Religion fan would be happy to not have these tunes in the BR back catologue then speak now or forever hold there peace

The song is ok, I dont find the lyrics very interesting, I prefer the intelligent BR lyrics of the past, I wont have to consult my dictionary once for this song lol, Brett likes to dumb it down for the masses these daze. I've always preferd Greg songs anyway so I guess I was never goin to be a great fan of this more poppy Brett song. I wouldn't compare it to STF which was way more interesting. It's ok for now but I think I will get bored of it fast, but for u people who love it cool, Gregs punkier songs are what I wanna hear :)

Oh gosh, it's so... light. Good I decided to check out the lyrics before writing a comment here cause if my opinion was based on the sound itself I'd say it's more pop punk than punk rock. And pop punk is fun, except it's not what I expect from BR. After reading the lyrics I can say the song ain't bad. I'll have to hear it in context with the full album to say if it's good, but so far it hasn't convinced me. The drums sound cool by the way, but I want more guitars and less sugar.

Interesting. I'm not sure if I like it or not.
I always liked the flow of BR lyrics. Even with akward and non conventional word choice, they were able to find a way to put all this in a great melody, which is something I admire, mostly because it's really difficult.
And now, I got the feeling that anyone could have written the melody to Devil in stitches because it seems kind of botched... I really don't want to start a fight, but this is what I think :P

I was going to say the same thing...the first time I listened to the song it sounded a bit awkward...but by the second listen it all came together and sounded prefect...the slightly different structure really sets it apart.
Still listening to the song and it seems like the lyrics were wrote way apart from the music and that they tried to put it all together. The way Greg sings looks like he has some trouble fitting the words within the chords length… Like sometimes he has start on first time, sometimes after, sometimes before. At other times he has to say a lot of words before the measure ends. What do you think?
That's exactly what I like about the song.
NMOH most CERTAINLY didn't have a "monstrous" drum sound. It was at time pretty nice (for Bad Religion standards, that is!), but it varied from song to song. I'd say it clearly was best on Heroes and Martyrs and maybe Scrutiny, pretty bad on, say, The grand delusion, and by far the worst on Honest goodbye (that might have been their worst drum sound EVER!). I and some friends who know a lot about recording have been wondering why an amazing drummer like Brooks is so oblivious to the sound of his drums on record. I mean, most other bands get better sounds on their records, and many of them don't have a fraction of the financial means that Bad Religion have.
I'd say from a recording and production standbount POB was BY FAR their best record! And one can tell that they put a lot of effort in it. One of the few BR songs on which I REALLY liked the drums (of course in context of their time) was Recipe for hate! But of course that entire album has no consistency whatsoever with reargd to production/recording. I didn't like the Gray Race production too much... of course a lot varies with personal taste. But if one compares records and production throughout the entire genre, Bad Religion really don't fare well in terms of their album sounds. It's a shame. But I guess that's the way they want it.
Well I must say that "tight" drum sound does fit the faster songs, but if you compare the last four BR records (including the new one) to, let's say, the last Social Distorcion album, or records that Bill Stevenson produced, it still sounds flat. Or look at the drum sound on 30 Years Live, that was amazing, because it's what drums REALLY sound like, and remember that it's still punk rock, which should not be overproduced (yeah I know blah blah there are no rules, punk is all individual blah, but for me, punk rock should sound rough).
- now I should stop complaining, because New Maps of Hell was still the best record since Stranger Than Fiction in my opinion, and I expect the new one to be at least as good, judging from the cover and the Resist Stance, hehe.

I am sure Brett played that solo!
Yeah, that really sounded like a Brett solo to me as well. Any comments on that, Mr Brett? :)
Really thought the song was great, beyond great. I'm so stoked for the new album right now, Bad Religion feels (once again) more current and important than ever!
I'd love to take credit for it but that's actually Greg H. playing the solo on Devil
thanks Brett, do you play some solo in this record?

Very different sound. Very different lyrical style. I'm pretty happy with it, though.
Thanks Mr. Brett for giving us a better link and the lyrics, especially as promptly as you did! I'm preordering the deluxe CD bundle today!

Again...it's all personal preference...but, most importantly, the #1 reason I buy a Bad Religion record is for Greg's voice....everything else is important, but as long as that element is in top form I'm happy. That's just me.

Well remember NMOH had a monstrous drum sound...actually it was nearly over-bearing. It fit the record well but at times I had trouble hearing Greg. I think The Grey Race had the best production....but I think this mix sounds great.
Con:
- While the sound is pretty natural, it has lost pretty much all power, particularly the drums. It sounds so low-tech. I could record drums like this, and I have no pro-tool studio. There is hardly any kick left (particularly the bassdrum). But let's hope that's just because it's such a soft song. They haven't had a 100% consistent drumsound since New America, so other songs might sound different. I don't expect a high-tech sound kinda like Blink or crap like that. But this sounds more like a hobby band practise room recording.
I have to agree with that. Every BR records since Process of Belief had very similar mixing and mastering, which leads me to think that this is Brett's idea of the perfect Bad Religion sound. The bad thing is that the drums really do sound kind of flat on every album since Brooks joined the band. In my opinion, Against the Grain and The Gray Race had the best drum sound.

You know what...in terms of "songs from NMOH" to compare this to...I'd have to compare it to "Fields of Mars" actually. The abstract lyrics and sort of "epic" sound reminds me of that song. Brett- you've outdone yourself.....lovin' it!

Really reminds me of New America, but it's awesome that they released this song so early! Just as I was getting used to Resist Stance being in my shuffle playlist, there's a new song to keep me excited and chomping at the bit!

Complain, complain, complain.......the song is fantastic, it sounds like the song "Stranger Than Fiction." Of course it will be one of the poppier songs....that goes without saying guys- but it's great. We already know Resist Stance is a hard song...and I'm will to bet "Only Rain" & "The Day The Earth Stalled" will be at the very least. In the mean time, I'm loving this track.

Yeah this seems to be the LA is Burning of the new record. It's pop, it's not bad, the lyrics are great and poetic, but it's (or it will) not the best song on the album.
One mega con though : This song will be boring live.

Haha, it totally sounds like something from New America. I don't care what anyone says, it was a solid record.
I really love the lyrics, but the actual song is taking it's time to grow on me. The echoes seem a bit much, but I'll see how I feel when I get used to it.

it sure sounds great but still I kinda hope this is one of the softest songs of this record
I liked the attempt of doing a more agressivish record with NMOH
oh whatever.. I have already orderde 3 different bundles and I feel Greeat about it !

Respledent :P, I was seriously worried that BR was going to stall out after 30 years and in particular four albums of the same lineup; needless to say this song proves what an idiot I am. It's not quite like anything I've heard from BR before and is enfused with just the right combination of the familiar and the new and creative. It comes close to the sound that New America could have had but never did (in large part due to the lack of Brett). In fact, this song reminds me a bit of Believe It, which I believe is the best song off of NA. It sort has an alternative/jangley melody backed with the usual punk power. If that weren't enough I also dig the Joey Ramone-esque "eh!" that follows the opening.
