And I had no idea that Simple Plan covered american Jesus... How DARE they!!!
Don't be elitist like that. Please read the "being punk" thread in the Hippy killers part of the forum! They can cover whoever they want, and in any case, that will make more people know about BR, and that can't be bad!

Well, when I heard yellowcards Nirvana covers I thought - that's it, someone finally made it to the end, noway you can make worse cover. Only a week later Ataris proved me wrong. Terrible..

Yet, 'ITU' was'nt really punk rock, so in order to prove the punkiness of accoustic guitars, BTTK is a better choice ;)

That cover was sad, but just think... It's better than having Simple Plan cover a NOFX song Actually the sad part is that might just happen; but yeah the Ataris really ruined that song.

Hey Alpha. Last I checked Bad Religion used acoustic guitars first on "Into the Unknown", not "Back to the Known". They used a piano on "How Could Hell be any Worse" as well.

Yeah the quality for this mp3 definitely did sound shitty...The background guitars and orchestra sound pretty good, but his voice sounds like it was recorded through a normal old tape player or something. Too bad...this could've been an awesome cover, if only they had put more time and effort into it.

Looks like Kalle likes to talk shit worldwide... Anyway, accoustic songs can be very cool, but just like with 'plugged' music, it depends... And BR used an accoustic guitar for the first time on 'Back To The Known'.

The Justin Sane album is partially acoustic. In any case, I haven't heard it and don't want to. They did a bad enough job with "the Boys of Summer," which was a decent song to begin with. If they did as "well" as that, then they need to be pushed off of some sort of tower.

Ug The Atari's cover is horrible. Acoustic can be amazing, like "American Lesion" or Justin Sane's album, but the quality of the sound is horrible, the guitar is off key and The singer cannot hold the notes. I do agree The Ataris are not a good band, but I cannot defend it either. I guess it's a personal thing. Did they record this in a bathroom?

Carlos, what the hell is wrong with you? whoever did that cover has never heard the original. i'm not saying it has to be a fast punk song, but he could at least use the same melody or something. Good covers don't completely lose sight of what the original is. He completely bastardized a good song.

Ack, Ataris' cover is quite a sad one, Josh Goodman did an awesome cover on Tribute Tape #3, which can be found at:

I agree Grillo...his voice DID sound a little country-ish (on the Travolta's cover), but the harmonies were pretty good, and over all it's really catchy :-D
I also agree with Albaholic about the Ataris version of "Heaven Is Falling"...it sounds like they just kind of threw it together. He wasn't too good at holding those notes at the end, either. And it's really too bad that they didn't incorporate any of the awesome vocal harmonies that BR is legendary for...Over all, it could've been much better.

I've actually been playing acoustic covers of this song and from what I can tell by this mp3, even I could do a better job. An acoustic cover of this song would rule if done right, but I think the Ataris messed it up... I sure hope the rest of Rock Against Bush isn't going to be this bad.

Grillo, if you go to http://www.bad-religion.net/ and go to the mp3 section, they have some covers there...I think it's down towards the bottom.
Kalle, it's your own opinion about the acoustic covers, but I tend to like them (although I was disappointed with The Ataris one). It doesn't have to do with whether they're "punk" or not. Making them acoustic doesn't take away their "punkness", especially with BR songs, because their punkness lies more in their lyrics. That's what I think, at least.

The band 'The Travoltas' released an album of covers, most of which were Beach Boys songs, and one of the songs was the BR song 'Sorrow'.

Please, NO more acoustic versions. The songs are supposed to be loud and fast. Acoustic music isn't punk rock. And don't tell me "you can't define punk" or "punk is doing what you want", acoustic versions are just crap, and you know it.

I think it would be awesome if Bad Religion (or at least Graffin) did some sort of a compilation of acoustic BR songs. Alot of their songs sound amazing when they are slowed down and played well; anyone ever heard Graffin's piano version of "Cease"? Or even the Travolta's acoustic version of "Sorrow"? They're very good. I think that's a sign that BR's songs are truly extraordinary...that they can sound excellent either fast or slow.
Personally, I'd love to hear someone do an acoustic version of "Skyscraper". That would sound awesome...

Oh fuck... that's just butchering the song...awful I tell ya...awful.
Nothing's wrong with the acoustic versions as long as they are performed by BR.

To cover that song to Rock Against Bush-comp was a good idea. But this song sure does suck. It shows why you shouldn?t make acoustic versions of punky songs, althought that acoustic version of Do what you want is actually pretty cool.
