If this is true, than it sucks pretty bad. Bad Religion is one of my all time favorite bands. But I am glad I still have the memories from past shows. Best-Punk-Band-Ever.

Ratguy, you bring up an interesting point, or hope: that even if they stop touring, they'll still put out records, much like the Beatles did (in fact, I believe that it was 40 years ago this month that the Beatles put on their last show...and the material they put out after touring was even more amazing than their earlier stuff. Then again, they were only around for 10 years, not 25). Perhaps that's what BR will end up doing. I could certainly see Graffin putting out solo albums for years into the future; he seems like a guy who still has a lot of music left in him. Either way, I'll be happy. As long as I've got my cds and pictures from the shows I've been to, what's there to bitch and moan about?
Anyways...yeah, this topic is pretty much dead. So long.

By the way, I don't think anyone wants Bad Religion to be the Rolling Stones of punk, a carnival act comprised of a bunch of senior citizens with arthritis and bladder problems who while they can still rock, are ridiculous to look upon in their leather pants and earrings.

Alright people here is your answer: Bad Religion is going to retire... someday. Get that into your heads, and enjoy the ride while it lasts. They're middle aged men who will eventually get fed up with incessant touring, speakers blaring in their ears, and a bunch of low IQ fans (who are younger than their band is old) believing anything they hear, even if it was meant as a joke. I for one hope that if they stop touring they continue to put out albums, but if they don't, too bad. I have over 16 hours of BR music including every song they released commercially and live recordings and i'm not about to give that up anytime soon. Although it is no substitute for seeing them live I've already seen them live on several occasions and will always have the memories. I've dealt with this issue and am satisfied with Bad Religion, it's time for you to do the same.

InvisiPunk: for god's sake, we know. do you even read what's been posted already before you decide to scramble this one open on your own. even though if brian and jay DIDN'T tell you anything at the HOB, that wouldn't mean they still wouldn't tour next year. we all know this, old news. this whole fucking topic/news/headliner/whatever you wanna call it is useless, misleading and just plain dumb.

actually, the very first. and yes, they must be the exception off of john's list. pennywise has totally lost it, the offspring never really were anything in my book, and rancid and the vandals are just ok, nothing compared to bad religion. nofx though, share a well bond with bad religion, and it seems very reciprocal. they have the utmost respect for eachother, and fat mike said that they would call it the quits two years after bad religion, no matter when that would be. that would mean that they've been around for just as long (seeing nofx came around two years after bad religion). you could 'pump up the valuum' with nofx - i'm a huge fan of bad religion, or just enjoy the numeral bad religion connections in many of their songs. nofx is a great band, let's hope their next album doesn't follow the typical downward spiral which most 'punk' bands now seem to be drained down against (read; pennywise).

as long as it is a moronic opinion, or simply not well thought through, i do not at all agree with you on that, fabio. good luck at the gig though, i'm sure it'll be just as awesome as the rest of this europe tour has been.

to d. adrian: I think that there's nothing of so stupid about expressing your own opinion...NEVER! :P they could quit in 2006 although a new album is scheduled for that year...have you ever heard about a band that stop playing around and keep producing albums? anyway this discussion is useless maybe - but if many people decided to be part of it, that could be either because we all have nothing to do at the moment (PROBABLY) or because of a real worry about this...anyway, I'm going to see Bad Religion in Bologna at Indipendente ...last gig of the tour...hopefully I will be able to film them :))

let's give an atheistic amen to that. cheers john! (i actually agree, ITU may be a little too experimental, but it's fun listening to and of course holds a great sentimental value. and as for NS and TNA, they've both got some incredible highlights, one of them being amongst my personal favorites, 'don't sell me short').

Never assume anything here folks.25 possibly going on 26 years as a band.Nothing last forever(people, animals, buildings, and yes even rock bands)I've personally enjoyed BR for the last 17 of them (I'm 34 now) and have never been dissapointed by any of their records at all and I mean at all(ITU,STF,TGR,NS and even NA included)sorry folks but that's just my opinion.Great music and great band.Give me a band that's been around as long as they have and that can still deliver such great music as BR can?Not many of them left here today kiddies.SCREW your NOFX's,Rancids,Blinks,Sums,Pennywises,Vandals, and all those other pale imitations and lame ilk.BR's the real thing here but hey let's just accept the fact that whatever plans they have for the future is entirely their business and none of ours.Everything must Cease as they say and I respect whatever decision they come up with and so should you.
Thanks for your time here Goodnight!

Yeah Buddha, but these guys you mentioned are nostalgia acts at best, and the offspring hasn't been around nearly as long as BR. Can you name your favorite song off the Rolling Stones last album? I didn't think so. BR almost went the way of the dodo, but they were able to turn it back around and their last two albums are the best since RFH.

Ratguy & john brings up the best points ever to be made in this discussion really. Katie, as you proclaimed, bad religion owe it to their fans something something last gig somewhere somewhere... when they don't owe anyone anything, besides theirselves to call it the quits whenever they must and feel like it. 25 years dammit, they've produced music for us to enjoy in 25 years, and still going strong. what more could one ask of as a follower of a band? count out no substance and the new america if you don't like those, but still there's so many great albums, and over 200 songs to always enjoy from this band. and yet, we already know from their plans, that there will be even more. and now, we've got the way fucking anticipated live DVD to be waiting for, so why moan and shit? i'd sit back and listen and shut up more.
and for the future's record; you all know mr. gregory walter graffin will keep on making these jokes about retirement and whatnot.

Well said, John. As John Lennon once said (speaking of the Beatles), "People go about it as if it's the end of the world! It's a only a rock group that split up, it's nothing important. You have all their old records there if you want to reminisce." I think it applies here as well. Damn, BR has gone and given us more than most punk bands have (including a comeback after having almost faded away). Most of us go to their shows preferring to hear them play old songs, not necesarily new ones. I agree with Watch-o not necessarily that others who speak too fast are morons, but that if you stop and think (as most BR songs encourage) you'll realize that it was just a joke. (Don't you love my overuse of parenthetical notation?)

If they decide to retire then that's entirely their business folks and none of yours.
They owe us nothing and remember you have over 25 years of music and back catalogue to choose from so there you are.
Thank you and good night

No reason to say we're all "morons" for just discussing what Graffin allegedly said at this show. None of us were throwing our hands up in the air and screaming and crying about it, for Christ's sake. At least I wasn't. I don't think any of us seriously believe that they're quitting any time soon, but there's nothing moronic about guessing when or how it could happen.

how could followers of such a smart band as bad religion, be such naive morons? Travis, "Superfabietto", jack, Katie, ollie, Onions... take notice of nate's insightful comment, as well as this one right here. as any bad religion fan would be aware of, they're already planning a new album to be released in 2006. also, greg and brett are working on american lesion 2. you'd also know bad religion has made numeral statements through the years that this would be their last year, and at the same time, they've also indicted on how to at least keep it going 'til 2007. now... to be fairly reasonable; they're punk rockers... meaning they won't be able to jump around on stage when they're hitting 50, and touring all over the world. though some bands still do it at that age. i'd say it's very plausible that they'd continue 'til they're say... around 45 years old. we'll at least get to enjoy 1, if not 2 more bad religion albums until that time comes.

I think he was just fucking around. I would expect their last show to be in L.A., as a way of ending where they started. And I also think they would announce their last tour, if they knew it truly was for good. I think they owe their fans THAT much...

At the Astoria gig I swear he said "see you next time!" or something similar. So I doubt it's the last tour.
But it is totally possible that BR could break up any time... they're not spring chickens anymore.

I guess Greg only said that because now everyone is discussing about this and not asking about the damn DVD anymore!

Well at the Norway show he said "we plan to be around for a few more years" so it certainly isn't the end yet ;)
(though, he followed up with something like "but I don't know how I'll keep up if you keep treating me like that" or something, after having been hit in the head with a plastic mug full of a pint of beer.

Well, I'm kinda worried...hopefully it's one of Greg's jokes...I can't bear such a painful event...anyway a legend never dies!

I don't think BR is planning on retiring, I think they just want to feel like they are free to do so at any time if they choose to, so they want their fans to know they won't be around forever.

No, I don't belive this is the end. They still have to release the new DVD, and they said they have material for the new album. Greg wants to drive the fans crazy with jokes like that.

Never!!! If you believe in what Greg and the guys say on stage the would have been gone since 1996, when Greg made his retirement speach at the Loreley Show in Germany! They often say things like that on stage and you should not take them too seriously!
