Great review! Balanced and well thought out. It's a pity more people (Christians, BR fans, Muslims, punk rockers, everybody) can't be bothered to take the time and give credit where it's due.

I think the writer wants to say something like: Hey if you are a christian, don't think, when you hear the name "bad religion", that it's evil. Listen to it, so you learn how to ask questions and see how some people might look at your religion. But If greg graffin didn't use so many difficult words, the writer might have not took him so serious

it is still a fairly patronizing article. it's almost as if the author realises that we don't take Christianity or God seriously because of how they act, what they believe, say etc, which to me is the be all and end all, yet somehow he thinks that we/gregg has got them all wrong and that it is really not like that if we come to a church and see what really goes on. bullshit. alot of fans of br, like myself, grew up surrounded by these fools. i believe my eyes, my brain cmplies to all that they interpret.

Great article!
Not the kind of review you're used to, when it comes to Bad Religion.

I too, appreciated this article. It's written in honesty and objectivity. Too bad, the Christian people, rarely is as thoughtful and respectful, and it's hard to communicate with them.
Very nice

Well, it was just as decribed by the comments (intelligent and "respectful")until I read the line : "'Social Suicide' chants the happy death knell of "a useless modern god," who is going to sleep a dreamless sleep. This brings me to a key point, and perhaps provides a clue to what Graffin is missing: 'God,' as understood by classic modernity, is definitely useless. But why does Graffin believe God can be boxed up by the constraints of modernity? ....... OK, so they might have listen to the album once or twice, they might have researched a bit about BR's past, but it's a pretty obvious mistake to mix up, in the same sentence, the songs (Social Suicide and All There Is), the songwriters (Brett wrote ATI) and spend time arguing on what THEY want to argue on, over one single sentence in the whole song.
Nice try, but think again.

I think this was a wonderfully written and very respectable article. Leave it to the canadiens to bring a rational argument to the table, and not just hide behind the all too common facade of unwavering righteousness and superiority. Its people like this who restore my faith in humanity's ability to be civil.

The review is actually not that surprising after all.
They're using Bad Religion as a sort of Devil's Advocate
taken from wikipedia:
Formerly, during the canonization process by the Roman Catholic Church, the Promoter of the Faith (Latin Promotor Fidei), or Devil's Advocate (Latin advocatus diaboli), was a canon lawyer appointed by the Church to argue against the canonization of the proposed candidate. It was his job to take a skeptical view of the proceedings, to look for holes in the evidence, to argue that the miracles attributed to the candidate were fraudulent, etc.

Ya, I thought this was the most insightful review of the album I've seen. The reviewer actually weighed the arguments in the album, and was able to present them in a fair way, even though he obviously holds conflicting views. Wow!

How is this review "funny" it's one of the best and one of the most intellegent reviewa of this album I have read... Not to mention it's a million times better than all the fauxpunker websites claiming that they actually know something. Not to mention it's very insightful and well written... This is the kinda stuff people need to think about when reviewing albums... looking and asking questions... and not just saying "Graffin's lyrics are so great and the drumming is really fast. Lastly, Brett, Baker and Hetson's guitars are spiffy!" This person has aweesome and very valid questions and points... even if he is comming from the "other side"...."There is a lot that Christian music fans could learn from Bad Religion. Their music is lyrically deep and very thoughtful. It is well-written, well-produced and not a result of market demand. The blending of the medium and the message allows for clear communication. The music is urgent and angry."
