The idea of getting together with other Bad Religion fans originated from The BR Mailing List in October 1999. It was obvious that it was something that many people in there wanted to do; they'd been talking over the web for quite a long time and they wanted to see each other's faces. So Roger Vulture decided to propose a date, which was accepted by everyone, and called it Bad Religion Day. November 5 was chosen because that was the release date for Against The Grain, and also Graffin's birthday is on November 6 (and the 1917 revolution, called the October revolution, funnily enough, actually took place on November 7).
This is the original text that was used to announce the Bad Religion Day:
Each year on November 5 Bad Religion fans have an excuse to meet other fans and do whatever they feel like doing to celebrate this most peculiar date: Bad Religion Day. It is peculiar in that it can be freely interpreted as a day of celebration, meditation, masturbation or indeed anything you may feel like doing.
Even if you e-mail me and become the contact guy/girl for a get-together in your city, you don't really need to organize anything amazing. You just need to be willing to meet other fans in your area, and state what you intend to do, even if it involves simply hitting the pubs for a huge badreligious piss-up. Or you can sit down and discuss the band's lyrics over a coffee, have a Hetson-impersonator contest, trade bootlegs and underwear, you can scream your heads off singing Generator while standing on the table of a posh restaurant with your pants down...
If someone else has already planed to organize a get-together in your area, you should get in contact directly with them by e-mail.
Bad Religion Day 1999
Roger Vulture tried to coordinate / announce all proposals for gatherings of fans on 11.5.1999, but that didn't go too well and only 2 BR parties in Europe actually took place, and none at all in the US, despite 7 proposals. Vulture guess the reason was that the events were announced at only 11 days notice.
What exactly happened on this years BR Day is unknown.
Bad Religion Day 2000
In 2000 Roger Vulture spent a whole year announcing all proposals for gatherings / piss-ups / conferences / orgies / concerts / happenings / chats and we ended up with 70 proposals, 58 of which were from US residents. The amazing thing was that NONE of these 58 potential parties materialized, while NINE of the 22 events that were supposed to take place in other countries around the world went ahead and most turned out pretty great indeed. How does the USA react to this? Will it explode with frustration and bomb out some third world country at random? Will it try to make up for it by proposing Graffin for president? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Bad Religion Day 2011
After many years of nothing happening, this year torbar organized a 44 hour streaming of BR related music and interviews, starting from November 5th in New Zealand. The last song being played was Sorrow. To listen to the live stream, a website was put up: badreligionday.com (link is no longer active as of 2019).
Bad Religion Day 2012 & 2013
In 2012, torbar and FRod87 again did the 24 hour live feed. It included interviews with Jay Ziskrout, Pete Finestone, Jay Bentley, Greg Hetson, ikillKenney from the BR podcast. Concerts by Paulo Pilha, Emily Davis, Dave & Mighty. The feeds raised money for the Doctors Without Borders Charity.
True North (album) was announced on a live google hangout on BR day in 2012.
