For a full biography, continue to Brett's profile.
Jay: "After a long recording session, Brett likes to write some songs to "cleanse his palate", per se. He also does that after writing long complicated songs. That's not to say they don't make the cut... it's just something he seems to do."[1]
Brett: "I'm inspired to write by all kinds of everyday life experience like having my ass tickled with a feather."
In 1988 he said he loves The Ramones and Elvis Costello (like the rest of BR).
In 1991, his three favorite lyricists were Darby Crash, Elvis Costello and Bob Dylan.[2]
In 1993 he said The Beatles were his favourite band.

He considers Marquee Moon by Television (1977) to be one of the very best albums ever.
