I hate my family, hate my school, speed limits and the golden rule.
Hate people who aren't what they seem, more than anything else, American Dream.
American Dream's gonna swallow you whole, it's bursting at the seam,
It'll sweep you away, so enjoy it today, tomorrow you'll be old thus useless.
American Dream... American Dream...
American Dream, that's ok, 'cause no one dare give you away.
I hate my god, I hate your job, I hate hypocrites and common slobs.
Hate people who aren't what they seem, more than anything else, American Dream.
Promise me today I'll have a Chevrolet, with whitewalls on the side,
One boy, one girl, comfortable lies
The American Dream... American Dream...
American Dream, that's ok, 'cause no one dare give you away.
American Dream!
(bleah!)

It seems like this song is about conformity and a guy wanting to rebuke the status quo, but I'm not exactly sure. I just know that it's kickass awesome.

My interpretation of this song is that it's about someone who only wants to conform to himself and nothing else. He doesn't want to to be part of the ignorrant mass that strives to get to achieve the 'ideal life-the American Dream.

It's about conformity, people losing their identity to conform to the system and society.

My thoughts on this song is that it's about people who are complacent and are hypocrites in life. They follow the comfortable lies that they're told is right by the system. "Hate people who aren't what they seem, more than anything else American Dream" he's talking about the hypocritical complacent people in society and how he's not going to follow that. "one boy, one girl, comfortable lies." The comfortable lies that the system tells society is the 'ideal life' and everyone strives for it, but he wants to go against it.

To me this song is pretty straight forward. I think it's about the 'Ameican dream' being a lie. "American Dream, that's ok, 'cause no one dare give you away." Even if people realize that they can never achieve the 'American dream' they still won't give up the thought that it can still exist and that they have it. "Promise me today I'll have a Chevrolet, with whitewalls on the side,
One boy, one girl, comfortable lies." There might be more to this song, but I can't figure it out, so feel free to argue with me. 02/02/2005 at 05:49
