Who do you believe can put some meaning in your life,
Meaning in your life, meaning in your life?
Who do you conceive to provide you guidance and light,
Guidance and light, guidance and light?
Are they waiting for you in the by and by?
Do you even have to try?
Headed for eternity and destined for nothing,
The future isn't difficult to see.
It's easy to confuse grand design with life's repercussions,
Lament not your vanquished fantasy.
It's only destiny.
Why do you consent to live in ignorance and fear,
Ignorance and fear, ignorance and fear?
Ancient people succumbed to it, can it happen here,
Can it happen here, can it happen here?
Does it make you suffer 'cause you have to die?
Is it best to live a lie?
Headed for eternity and destined for nothing,
The future isn't difficult to see.
It's easy to confuse grand design with life's repercussions,
Lament not your vanquished fantasy.
It's only destiny.
Why can't you see?
There ain't no destiny.
For you and me,
There ain't no destiny.
(Why can't you see?) Why can't you see?
(No destiny) (There ain't no destiny) There ain't no destiny.
(Why can't you see?) For you and me,
(No destiny) (There ain't no destiny) There ain't no destiny!
Headed for eternity and destined for nothing,
The future isn't difficult to see.
It's easy to confuse grand design with life's repercussions,
Lament not your vanquished fantasy.
It's only destiny.

It's a song about the non-determinism saying that all humans beings have free will and we're not destined for any godly purpose or anything. There are people who pass their own lives believing in things with no apparent rational reason, only grabbed like some kinda Dogma. Living their lives with ignorance, never trying to find out things about life and learning rationally.

I think this song means there is no afterlife. He asks who can bring meaning in life and what do you imagine to guide you (God) which is a imaginary being. It's clear that we have no afterlife, When have you ever seen proof of an afterlife?-there is no proof. He asks why people wish to live with religion (ignorance and fear) Ancient people, before science, explained our world with religion and lived in fear. He says it is still easy in this modern world to fall into religion.

Greg also speculates as to whether the sort of close-minded thinking identified above will be our collective undoing with "ancient people succumbed to it, can it happen here?" The lines ""Why do you consent to live in ignorance and fear?" and "Why can't you see..." certainly seem to indicate concern for the future of humanity, unless, as a society, we can begin to approach our lives with rationality.

This song depicts an interesting conquest, because on the surface it appears nihilistic. It is, however, suggesting that meaning does not have to erupt from eternity or one fundamental truth. Moreover, it hints that the underlying reason why people elect to pursue religion is fear of death. The prior theory is severely challenged when Greg asks if its best to live a lie as opposed to becoming educated or accepting uncertainty in given situations.

The song means that 'destiny' means nothing. Those who believe in an eternity in some after-life, or those who attribute 'life's repercussions' to 'grand design,' are living a lie. The song ends with "Why can't you see? There ain't no destiny for you and me."

This song talks about the fact that human beings are a product of evolution: we don't have an inherent purpose in life. We are not going to heaven neither to hell; we are not going to reincarnate, we just die. We are destined for nothing, we have to find our own meaning in life.
