Everybody needs a slogan in their pocket or two
It never hurts to have a strategy you can go to
Sometimes I have no sense at all
As most flawed men are wont to do
Just say fuck you
Pavlovian rude
A menace too
Pay homage to
Your bad attitude
You can even get cerebral if you want to
Make a radical assessment that sticks like glue
Sometimes it takes no thought at all
The easiest thing to do
Is say fuck you
Pavlovian rude
A menace too
Pay homage to
Your bad attitude
The reaction it brings, just one of those things
Your friends might not want you around
If the impulse is right you might get in a fight
Even though you can't hold your ground
But all rest assured, sometimes just a word
Is the most satisfying sound
Sometimes it makes no sense at all
The easiest thing to do
Is say fuck you
Pavlovian rude
A menace too, pay homage to your bad attitude, just say fuck you...

Yes, I think this song is a sarcastic jab at those who think that being an asshole and giving into their anger makes them cool, "punk," or in any other way a bad-ass.

There is simple interpretation of the song who would be that sometimes the only thing you need to say to feel satisfied is "fuck you".
But there's another hidden one, saying the opposite. This song is not a praise to saying "fuck you", it's mocking flawed people who "pavlovianally" resort to this because they are not able to "hold their ground". I like this one better, and it would kind of a continuity from Ad Hominem. 11/06/2012 at 09:30

My interpretation of the lyrics is quite simple:
It is that we are only human and sometimes we actually have to give in to our primal anger or frustration and stop trying to be so amazingly cleaned and cautious, and that this in fact okay. I guess this comes from Brett and Greg (who now wrote, I guess Brett) is getting older and have noticed that people start to think that they probably should tag down and be more indifferent as many are when they come up in years. And to this the songwriter simply wants to say "Fuck You", I do still care abot things. 11/06/2012 at 08:44
