Here inside this quiet room, there's direction,
Outside in the sultry noontime reflection.
A million people scurry, they are looking for advice,
None willing to lend charity just exercise their...
Shades of truth, and partisan convention,
Shades of truth between disparate lines.
Shades of truth interpret my intentions.
You don't know I'm alright,
You don't know I'm alright.
Who authored the blueprints and made us captains?
Someone proclaimed creation, people listened.
While children by the millions are thrown into this zoo,
The so-called gift of clarity!
Oh, what was God up to?
Shades of truth, and lenient conventions,
Shades of truth between disparate lines.
Shades of truth interpret my intentions.
You don't know I'm alright,
You don't know I'm alright.
So many walking parallel and pull their blinders tight,
So few offer apology and accept others' rights,
And nothing absolutely can be cherished in the end,
Can't we all accept that it will all happen again?
Shades of Truth, just partisan convention,
Shades of Truth between disparate lines.
Shades of Truth interpret my intentions.
You don't know I'm alright,
You don't know I'm alright.
Shades of Truth, just partisan convention,
Shades of Truth between disparate lines.
Shades of Truth interpret my intentions.
You don't know I'm alright,
You don't know I'm alright.

I don't understand the line "Oh, what was God up to?"
Maybe it means that many things in life are to be left up to God, like force majeur circumstances and all that entails. But creation of new lives should be thoroughly planned and controlled. Or maybe this means something else, god knows... 04/16/2014 at 06:45

For me, this song is a criticism of the fact that people believe in something without question. "Someone proclaimed creation, people listened". Also it's an affirmation that God doesn't exist. "While children by the millions are thrown into this zoo...What was God up to?"

"Can't we all accept that it will all happen again?" I believe this basically just states, that everything people do will be passed on down to their children and they will follow what their parents did. Then it will just keep moving down from generation to generation.

This song is pretty straightforward but enigmatic. It iis a cautionary tale for people of all beliefs and backgrounds to check themselves. Human nature and thus society is very selfish, only thinking of the self, acting on its instinct, and everyone and each society has their own reality, in parallel, their shade of truth, their partisan convention. But we will never know the whole truth.
Even, for instance, Bad Religion fans have their shades of truth and partisan conventions and must make sure to remember that to remain self-aware and always ready to question. I don't understand the line: "Can (or can't) we all accept that it will all happen again". What is it? 12/02/2004 at 06:38
