Our Apocalypse 1981,
Teenage vagrants lookin' for some fun.
A renewed promise of prosperity,
A vulgar platform for the world to see.
We were...
The hippy killers! [4x]
Busted refuse from broken homes,
Pocked flesh and malacious bones,
Creatures sustained by desire, heart and soul,
Nothing to leave and nowhere to go.
We were...
The hippy killers! [4x]
Good days during horrible times,
Overused bodies, neglected minds,
Shoulder to shoulder we formed as one,
The next miserable generation.
We were...
The hippy killers! [4x]

I think that the transcription of the lyrics might be wrong on the world "malacious"
I think it is really "marlaceous" or "marlacious" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marl (Marl is halfway between soft clay and hard limestone) Recall that Greg has a bachelor's and masters in Geology, so this is a word that he knows. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greg_Graffin#Personal_life It makes sense because the line goes: busted refuse from broken homes pocked flesh and marlacious bones and so it is talking about the teen-age years growing up -- pocked flesh from acne and marlacious bones that are not yet fully grown or hardened. 11/05/2010 at 14:33

I'm in agreement with Eric. The punks were the hippy killers.

I come across people who have taken this song literally and been offended by it. Greg is talking about punk rock kids from way back, who shunned the hippy utopian ideas because they experienced reality in their own lives, such as broken homes, the stresses of puberty, being looked down on by society, which certainly aren't utopian. Basically, this gneration's outcasts have replaced the hippies not only physically, but they have also left behind those old ideals as well.
