Stop them from shimmering away
On blank sidewalk glittering asphalt somewhere summer days
The wrong way kids were something more than friends
Navigating a sprawl without end
Did you ever want to take bad advice
Did you ever want to go and take it twice
Do you remember when the world began to put up its thorny fence
Right you are my friend
So what’s wrong with them
There go the wrong way kids
Singing whoa oh whoa oh whoa oh ohhhh
Singing whoa oh whoa oh whoa oh ohhhh
Whoa oh whoa oh whoa oh ohhhh
And they call them the wrong way kids
The kids today are gone away petitioning the dust
With no one to look up to because they're looking up to us
Just misfit melancholy dregs out lost in the mall
Wanderers to nowhere at all
Did you ever want to take bad advice
Did you ever want to go and take it twice
Do you remember when the world began to put up its thorny fence
Right you are my friend
So what’s wrong with them
There go the wrong way kids
Singing whoa oh whoa oh whoa oh ohhhh
Singing whoa oh whoa oh whoa oh ohhhh
Whoa oh whoa oh whoa oh ohhhh
And they call them the wrong way kids.

My one quibble is the reference to the "misfit melancholy dregs" since, and I think Brett will agree, that there is no such thing as human debris.
Let's just call them misfit melancholics and lose the dregs. 05/30/2013 at 11:42

This song... It is so pop. So top 40. And it is so good. I don't know if it is the music, the backing vocals, the lyrics etc. but the following lines are among the most powerful, evocative and rich moments I have ever heard:
"Did you ever want to take bad advice Did you ever want to go and take it twice Do you remember when the world began to put up its thorny fence" The universe is captured here, as far as I'm concerned. I wasnt' sure about those last words for a little while so I made it "Do you remember when the world began to rear up its ugly head" 05/29/2013 at 23:06

I would say it's about reminiscing those golden days of yore, not only when the band was infant but also their teenage/young adult years and how the punk rock scene was then, and just being it all immersed and carefree.
Perhaps Brett is also comparing with kids nowadays, slandering them? I'm not sure. 10/24/2011 at 12:29
