They are members of AFTRA, http://www.aftra.org, an Artists' Union. They are NOT getting paid to promote their album. These are reimbursement expenses, or Per Diem maximums for meals, cabs, etc. NBC would have paid for their hotel & Airfare. What they got was basically reimbursement for room service, tips, etc.

Jay plays a huge roll in BR. His backing vocals are some of the best in the business. And I don't think that the money listed on the contract is anything more than just expence reimbursement.

I did some math. Assuming Greg Hetson and Brooks Wackerman were also paid $394(I'm not sure since they wouldn't have the "singer" attached to theirs), then the total payment to the band was $2,768.
Greg Graffin was paid 28.88%
Others were paid 14.23%
--------------------------
If Brooks and Hetson were each paid the same, but less than the others, putting the total to the nice round 2,500 instead: $260 to each Brooks and Hetson
In that case, the %s are:
Greg G: 31.92%
Others(not BW or GH): 15.76% (each)
BW & GH: 10.4% (each)
Not that this really has relevence;I just thought it was interesting.

I remember reading in some article about the music industry that songwriters make get something like 80%-90% of the profit from performences and the performers get the rest. Obviously, there is some cross-over when the songwriter is a performer too.

Guys, I didn't read all comments maybe my point was brough up already, but could it be because Graffin had to fly from East Coast to attend and the other members where all already on the west coast where the show is hosted ? I'm not sure if Conan shoots in LA, but just wanted to raise this thought ... I don't think Graffin makes more than Greg or Jay who have been on the band just as long ...

and no, i wasn't trying to knock jay. jay is fucking awesome, but even jay knows that singers and guitarists get the most attention. i even realized it myself when i was hanging out with authority zero after a show a few weeks ago, i went to talk to the singer first, then the guitarist, then the drummer, and all i said was "great show, man" to the bass player. and i felt like a dick for it, cuz he's a good bass player.

lets not forget that he is a primary songwriter as well as singer. although, you'd think gurewitz would make more than that as he is a writer too, but maybe that is only a factor on albums. but lets be honest, the initial draw for EVERYONE to bad religion is the vocals/lyrics. the other components are excellent, but they're just the vehicle for his words. nobody gets into any punk band for the bass player.

Maybe he gets paid more because it's physically a little more trying to be the singer, emotionally more trying on the down time. And he's like pitch boy not a random screecher. Yeah, I said Baker. Word.

If you really want to find out more:-
www.aftra.com/aftra/aftra.htm
Each contract has an "Aftra Classification" on it. That's the union that represents musicians etc

It's not confidential. You can always find out how much someone gets paid for anything in that line of work.

Not complaining at all. Just wanted to know that came to be. After looking at the contract there seems to be a Rating. I think that it is the rating that determines there pay. And my wife just said that the pizza smells so good she wants to rip her shirt off...so I gotta go. Peace love and BAD RELIGION everyone.

I'm not at all surprised, wether we like it or not bad religion are part of the music industry, they are not exclusive to the indi world. That means they have to, for the most part, play by their rules. They must have come to the agreement that Greg would be the "leader" ( in music biz lingo), thus he gets paid double scale. I can see how it is unfair, but this could be strictly a contract issue, he probably shares the money with everyone else in the end. Also, I'm sure bad religion is a member of the AFM, if they were not then nbc would have not booked them. The double scale issue is a union thing as well.
