Hey, this is ikillkenny from the Bad Religion Podcast. On Wednesday I got a chance to interview Jay, and he said some newsworthy things about the new album:
First, they're looking to go into the studio around late June or early July.
As for the Double Album thing, he said that the original concept that they had back when the shot the DVD (2004) was to do a split between very punk, like 2 minute "rough" songs on one side, and more polished stuff on the other side. He compared it to the latest Foo Fighter's album that came out. However, the band has not necessarily commited to doing this yet.
The interview also had some other interesting things that at the very least I didn't know about the band, but there's too much to mention here. Look for the audio version of the interview posted this weekend.

We never seriously tried to do a double album. We've just been working really hard on geting 14 pr 15 really great songs. I think that everybody will be pleased. We've been working with Jery Vine and Greg has really refined his vocal abilities. He hits notes like Davey Havok now. We have 3 full songs as of now. They sound like a mix of old school Bad Religion, with the vocal range of AFI, and the guitar work of Guns N Roses. Our best yet

Well, one thing is for sure... Bad Religion has never released a song that would constitute itself as 'speed metal'and especially not Sinister Rouge. You fucking moron. However, you may want to get your hopes up because I heard that just this past weekend BR was in the studio with Motorhead and the infamous Japcore band GISM

hahaha jay, great stuff. fields on fire... haha @jay from Christmas Islands: yes there were, punk rock song maxi cd had "universal cynic" and "the dodo". i have it in my hands. i don't consider song demos from ithaca b-sides.. but i guess thats what they are. we tried to record the universal cynic with rick in new york, but the tempo wasn't working so we just left it.. |

There were 20 songs recorded for The Gray Race.
Only a few have been released, so I'm guessing this is authentic. |

i will say it again.. we are NOT planning a double album anymore, that was simply an idea at the time of the video. so that should clear that up. no speed metal, no follow the leader, boot stamping had a chance, we just ran out of time..

I agree completely with Darrennanos. BR have NEVER let me down, but I hope they're not continuing in the vein of 'Boot Stamping...' from TESF, which had Brett written all over it I think they should expand on the speed metal aspects of 'Sinister Rouge'.

By the way, did anyone read his comment on PunkNews about Greg's sophomore effort? Of course he will always try to promote everything he does but he said that it was the best thing he had produced in a long time. He had listened to it like a thousand times and he hadn't grown tired of it yet. |

On the latest Foo Fighters album there's a lack of the good ol "middle" songs that you find on "Color & Shape" and "Nothing left to lose". There is one screamo disk and one quiet disk. But I sure have a bigger trust in Bad Religion, I guess they'll make a super fuckin brilliant album.

mmm, i am very skeptical about this. i see the danger of putting songs on the album that are not that strong, just for filling it up. and i like it when an album is a good mix of songs and styles.

that's kind of terrific, kind of horrible news. do they really need to seperate the tracks out like that? and the "rough" songs they spoke of aren't considerably rough these days anyway. unless they are writing songs from "suffer" again, what's the point it splitting it all up? still exciting news, nevertheless!
