Never Say Never... If Run DMC can be inducted, Bad Religion has a good chance of being inducted also.. Honestly it's like they just induct anyone still famous after 25 years...

I personally don't think Bad Religion would care too much about getting in the hall of fame or not - they have never bothered chasing popularity too much.
As for Green Day, they have not been a real punk band, but did write quite many enjoyable songs, especially considering their latest release: American Idiot is a bit "alter" at times, but the band members have matured a lot in their lyrical and musical output.
Someone bashing Metallica: Metallica have been heavily influenced by punk bands and pay a lot of tribute toward e.g. The Misfits and Ramones. By the way, they have ALWAYS played the music they wanted to not giving a fuck about any bounds and expectations. (Which does not mean they are making good music every time). Please keep this in mind.

Bad Religion will never, and I mean never will be inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame. I think that maybe Iggy and the Stooges are much more likely to be inducted before BR. As much as I hate to burst your bubble but in punk rock as a whole Bad Religion aren't quite as influential as you all think. They influenced a few bands who became big but really, that's about it. They didn't invent a sound or anything. When it comes to punk rock, the mid 80's as a whole wasn't very important when it comes to punk rock (in comparison to late 70's, very early 80's and dare I say it's early 90's when punk took off again with Nirvana leading the way. (and before you argue, Nirvana didn't sound punk but being very heavily influenced by punk and having a lot of the attitudes of the punk movement, they were punk in their own way)).

good advice fantastic...words should have been more carefully chosen. What I mean more by my statement is that tons of people who are now into punk (and i mean real punk like BR and others) are in that position because they got into Green Day first and that was kind of their gateway to discover real punk rock. The thing that always bothered me about that was that as soon as that happens, so many of these self-righteous punks then relegate Green Day to "poseur punk" meanwhile knowing that they took they same path as the "poseurs" they are knocking. But this is a BR message board, and I didn't mean to start a Green Day discussion. I'm just sick of people hating on them because they're pop and on Mtv. Hate on Good Charlotte for crying out loud, or some other mall punk band that was truly an overnight success and a recipe created by a major label.

be careful saying green day put punk rock on the map. they may have put second wave punk music complete with the punk aesthetic on the map, but many, many, many other bands put punk rock on the map before them.

The RNRHOF is definitely watered down but it is recognition...something BR is way overdue for. Will it happen, probably not. STF is there only album that went gold (i heard it went platinum, but i'm not even sure if thats true...) and hence don't have the popularity to get that recognition. Same goes for Social Distortion. An as for you "RatGuy": don't pick on Green Day...they're on MTV and are very "pretty" and marketable, but get over it. The did their time on an indie label and were not an overnight success. Most likely you wouldn't even be punk rock if it wasn't for Green Day putting punk rock on the map. GD, BR, Social D, Rancid...they all deserve the RNR Hall of fame. Unfortunately GD is probably the only one that will get it...but thats cuz their the only truly marketable one...but don't crucify them for it. You know what would be great...if BR does get inducted and this whole discussion was meaningless. But we're just doing wishful thinking.

Its important that Bad Religion are inducted because they are among the most influential of artists of the last 25 years, alongside Black Flag, Glenn Danzig, and although I hate them, Metallica.

REM are going to be inducted this year; a band which have long promoted civil and political rights, ecological issues and other stuff. They have never "ass-kissed" anyone despite being on Warner Bros, they do it their own way. Sound similar to BR...?

this is fun...why don't we create a punk hall of fame? i know why, because we don't need an inner-circle status amongst awesome punk bands determined by goofballs or otherwise. fantasticthepan said it right, too.

you can't really say all bands that are in the r'n'r hof are crap just because they are there, they are there because they were in the right place at the right time, people recognised and liked them, so they became popular, and it's more likely that a well known band is going to be introduced, no matter how amazingly more awesome and important some other band with less luck is. on the other hand that introduction doesn't guarantee quality. it's all relative.
anyways, BR does deserve that, maybe more then anyone right now though i don't see what harm would it do if they don't win that. so it's pretty much irrelevant.

for bands like aerosmith, music is a sport or a business, a competition...and getting into the rock n roll hall of fame actually matters because it says they "succeeded". br is so special in their own humble beautifully poetic way that "honoring" them by doing this actually cheapens how fucking cool they are. rock n roll hall of fame is a business. its purpose is to a) make money b) honor mainstream artists who are "legendary".
its the lamest thing i can imagine. how many bands whove never even been heard of by the "pundits" who select bands into the hall of fame are way better than the bands that are in.
fuck the rock n roll hall of fame. i do not say this to be punk, i say this because it cheapens real music.

Actually, under their lifetime Ramones enjoyed less commercial sucess than Bad Religion have now. I mean, the Ramones were really underrated, they never even had a Top 40 record, and after all they are the ones who started punk. So not only charttoppers get into the R'n'r HoF. I guess it's more about how influentual the band is.

Whoa man, EATYOURDOG, Suffer is my favorite Album. I love every single song on it. No Control and Against The Grain don't even come close to that record. Well, Against The Grain actually kinda does. Still Suffer is... I don't know... Catchier, faster and cooler!

dude, i could ask 200 normal people either now or 10-15 years ago if they had heard of X and Bad Religion. waaaaaaay more people would have heard of bad religion. guaranteed. that doesn't mean br is the better band. but there's no contest which band is better known and has had a larger path of influence. i can only assume you grew up with x or something, so you can't think about it objectively. thats cool.

Here's my opinion on Suffer. In my opinion Suffer was a great record. But the records to follow were even better. No Control, Against The Grain and Generator..fucking amazing. Suffer was a huge album during that punk era becuase of Brett (and Jay) Epitaph knew how to market their products and knew how to get their product marketed... it's that simple. When Suffer came out (the boy of BR were back...we can thank Hetson for that!) But unlike most punk albums comming out then, they didn't get press time. Suffer was in every fanzine and rock and roll magazine that was important... Brett (and Jay) knew what they were doing. They had a product and they knew people would want it...so they got their product out to the people...They had the funds and the brains to make epitaph and Bad Religion successful.

X is definitely not an unknown band. Maybe they aren't as known as BR, but they have alot more cred (I'm not saying that BR don't have any cred, cause they surely have). They released Los Angeles in 1980, a huge classic. The only album by BR that comes close to that is Suffer, but it isn't as big a classig as Los Angeles were. X also got pretty mainstream with the Ain't love grand album.
Bad Religion is a great band, one of my favorites, but they don't get much cred outside the melodic punk genre and they have influenced alot of crappy bands... X were a great rock n roll band that got praised pretty much eveywhere, not just among punkers. Not too much unlike The Clash (though I know they weren't as big as them of course).

This hall of fame crap is as ridiculous as any random award thing, starting with the Oscars. I guess it's good publicity for the artists and even better business for the people running the shows, but if you're a consumer of this garbage then you should reconsider your priorities in life.

I'm one of those who doesn't care to see BR in a ranking that is gonna count bands such as Korn, Aerosmith, Marylin Manson, etc. as the best rock bands in the past 25 years. They're likely to be over BR in the ranking cause they sold more and cause they have cool videos.. Come on! I don't want to see BR between these bands

Balls to all of this hall of fame garbage - none of what makes BR great is compatible with it. Getting recognised by an ego-aristocracy rock'n'roll circus is of no value. Hardcore punk was rightly light-years remote from this sort of grandiose music-bizz self-glorification from day one and thats how it should be. Rock'n' roll hall of fame? Bad Religion don't need ya!

Bad Religion has never been mainstream enough to be put into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Can you really see them performing on prime time VH1 as they're being inducted? The band itself is pretty obscure as far as rock and roll as a genre goes. I predict we'll unfortunately see Green Day being inducted long before Bad Religion. Hopefully I'm wrong...

First, the people involved with the whole hall of fame are people who put total jackoffs into it as well. why can't BR simply be where they are without some grand recognition. they don't need their ego stroked, they are totally fine how they are. i'm sure they can lobby themselves as candidates if they really are interested. I guess I'm happy for them as powerful outsiders. Besides, it'll probably never happen, only because they've been around this long is this debate suddenly arising.

I think it would be amazing if BR was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Part III is right; who cares what other bands are in there? Just to have BR officially recognized as a major force in the music world would be wonderful (even though we fans of course have known this for years )

"They're not mediocre in popularity, but their music certainly was, with a few exceptions. Anyone who has ever seen these two bands live can testify to that."
I'm sorry, but i've seen countless live shows (not LIVE live, but you get my point) with the The Clash and own everything they've released and I still think they're one of the best bands ever. The Clash "mediocre"? Pft... The same goes with Ramones.
"And half of The Clash's library isn't even rock"
And here we go again with the most silly discussion there is... Genre gaying. Yeah, The Clash were doing punk, pop, rockabilly, disco, reggae, hiphop, jadda jadda jadda, but they were still always a rock 'n' roll band.
And about Bad Religion- I can't see that they being inducted into Rock 'n' roll hall of fame would ever happen. There are other bands that have done more "important" things than BR. If a band like, for example, X haven't been inducted then Bad Religion would definitely never make it.

I meant to say the same thing about Sex Pistols too, but in fact, they're the definite worst of the bunch. They released one record, with two good songs. They're only popular because they mainstreamed punk. That's the way it goes with music, it all hinges on popularity.

an EP isn't considered a 'full-length' record, no. And if someone deserves that kind of recognition, it is by far Bad Religion, before anyone else. So much more than both mediocre bands like Ramones and The Clash. They're not mediocre in popularity, but their music certainly was, with a few exceptions. Anyone who has ever seen these two bands live can testify to that. And half of The Clash's library isn't even rock. Many just listens to London Calling.

Bad Religion shouldn't want to be in the R&R HOF. What good would it do? I think they have been true to themselves and getting in with Aerosmith and some of these other butt-rockers would be lame. They don't need ass-kissing from the mainstream to be known as essential music.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, huh? I think that they certainly deserve it after 25 years of punk. Too bad my vote doesn't count though.
