I wish they could get back to STF sound. In my opinion, that's when BR sounded better.

NO ONE knows what you mean, but that is mostly because the production on process and empire is almost exactly the same.

I'd rather they went back to Process or The Gray Race in terms of sound. I loved TESF but the overall sound was too "digital" if you know what I mean...

Joe Barresi was the engineer on TESF as well, so he has worked with the band before.

I first thought the sound of the new america sucked too. But I had it at a bitrate of 128kbit. So I tried ripping my cd at a high bitrate. Then It sound a lot better. All the delays and reverbs and whatever, is so much better without the joint stereo. So everybody who listented to it in shitty mp3 quality, buy the cd.

I actually think todd rundgren did a great job on TNA. There's a certain crispness thats in that album that is only found in Process otherwise.

the only real bad producer (bad in terms of possibly ruining the sound) BR had was on The New America with that todd guy who turned out to be a bit of an asshole. But even then, TNA had it's definite bright spots; course by now I'm just amazed and thankful for every bit of their output and find little time to nitpick.
Plus, just because a guy is officially assigned the producer role doesn't mean anyone else in the band who is familiar with producing isn't going to put in their two cents, Id imagine quite a collbaortation going on between joe, Brett & co.
I personally can't wait, I think it's going to be awesome. The only thing that would ruin this album would be listening to it in advance; almost happened with TESF, thankfully i gave it a 4th try :D.

Why doesn't Brett just produce it, rather than some popular producer?

Yay!!! Jay, I read the other day that Brett's a big fan of Television's Marquee Moon. Well, who isn't anyway... You should ask Tom Verlaine for a collaboration ? la Wayne Kramer on STF.
