I feel like they probably thought that by recognizing OpIvy, they were recognizing Rancid too since the latter would never have existed without the former. As for Dropkick, as fantastic as they are I think they're just too new--if they were going to include any Irish-influenced punk on that list, it probably would be The Pogues (maybe they got an honorable mention? not sure, didn't look at that part of the article).

That list is ridiculous, the Sex Pistols are garbage, Out of Step should be number one, etc

I liked the fact that they mentioned Refused in the Honorable section of the list, but I really missed any other non-UK/Ireland european band. They could've dug up some more, imo.
But Bad Religion got a far worse place than I'd anticipated, seeing that NY Dolls (although they're considered a huge influence on rock/punk, I know) got a higher mark. All in all, a fair list.

this is off topic. But that poll: 'will the new album be better than the empire", is a little weird. I am surprised that only 34% of the people are not sure the new album is going to be better. I mean; who ?s sure?

I actually have to say that it's a decent list. They're bound to miss some (where is Fugazi?), but overall, it's surprisingly well thought out.

i would say a surprising influence for me, now that i think about it, would be ALL. I really liked their stuff for some reason. Never cared for the Decendants though.
Im willing to bet tsunami bomb woulda been the next pennywise given about 5 year, too bad they broke up.
and i realize people love the dead kennedy's, but wow, some of their shit is hardly listenable. They're good and all but yea, harsh on the ears...

If we are going for "influential" than FEAR should be on the list.

Actually, Ana's point is that everyone else who is bitching should go back and read the first two paragraphs. She's right. We're talking about influential, not best. The Ramones and Pistols should be on the list whether you like em or not because they, well may have had more of an influence on punk rock than say NOFX...being that they were the first two punk bands to get attention for being, uh, punk rock

Don't even know what to say. How can any rational human being not like the ramones. the ramones are just about the only punk band everyone can agree on. I've never heard of anyone not liking the ramones. i'm ready for bed.

Good job guys. I am impressed. Although it's not very punk of you to just agree to disagree.

Fair enough. I'd agree with you about most country (however Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, and many others did make some significant contributions that were very good). I guess we'll just agree to disagree on the "Punk" issue. At least we are able to discuss this rationally. There may be hope for both of us yet...

Bad Religion and NOFX are two of my top 5 favorite bands. Bad Religion is 1st place (who'd have guessed?)
But aside from them, there aren't very many punk bands I like. Just a few songs here and there. "Fuck Authority" from Pennywise and "Insects Destroy" by Pulley come to mind. Maybe 4 or 5 Anti-Flag songs, "His name is pat robertson" by the Swellers, a DK song or two, and a Minor Threat song. That's about it.
And a bit of Offspring, if they even count.
I prefer blues acoustic or spanish guitar, personally. I like bad religion because of their lyrics, and their style, melody, and vocal harmonies make it easy to listen to (to say the least). It took me ages to get into HCHBAW and Suffer, and it mostly required a build-up of fan bias.
But at the end of the day I listen to every single genre. Except country. Fuck that.

Your comment certainly explains alot about you, Neil. DK is bottom of the barrel? I'm not much of a punk fan (which was already obvious)? Your comments here say far more about you than any of us ever could (myself included).
What's that you say Neil...? Yes I realize that this is just your opinion. No I'm not telling you to shut up. I just hope you'll think about why you're a Bad Religion fan. Hopefully it's because you recognize substance when you see it (insert smart-ass remark here). Yes there is alot of "Punk" music that is far from substantive, but the idea of "Punk" goes much deeper. I'm not trying to start a fight with you, I'm just trying to understand your way of thinking.

Sex Pistols and Ramones are poors excuses for music. DK is bottom of the barrel too, but at least they have a few gems. For that matter, I'm not really much of a punk fan.

I like their choices, but they're in the wrong order :D
Bad Religion should be number 1. NOFX 2. Pennywise 3. Descendents. Ramones 4. Black Flag 5. Kennedys 6. Sex Pistols 7. Minor Threat 8. and so on...
But that's just my opinion.
