Addition:
The set list for last night was the same as DC except between Social Suicide and Requiem For Dissent the band played "On Broadway" because of where the theater is located and because of someone in the audience they were talking to earlier. Also between Skyscraper and Dearly Beloved the band played parts of Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana and Double Vision by Foreigner as a joke...

Bad Religion's contributions to modern punk cannot be understated. The Southern California vets founded Epitaph Records, invented the SoCal sound, and helped establish the Warped Tour as a cultural juggernaut. Now in its third decade, the band continues to resonate with disaffected youth.

"I see a new crop of teenagers coming to our shows who know our catalog," says bassist Jay Bentley, calling from his home in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he's been living the last several years. "But I also see 40-year-old guys coming with their kids. That's cool, because I have kids, and I take them to shows."

Unlike most legendary punk acts, Bad Religion's past doesn't overshadow its present. New Maps of Hell, released this summer, ranks among the band's best, featuring new twists on its signature sound, including raw production and down-tempo melodic rock (best exemplified by the single "Honest Goodbye").

"We have a good idea of what we are as a band, and we try to expand on that, not necessarily jump out of the box and become a David Bowie-like figure changing every record," says Bentley. "Everybody says its one of the best records we've done in a while."

We're always looking for manufacturing and policy-related items at cultural events, and yes, it's a stretch some times ....

Still, you would think with Al Gore's Nobel Prize being in the news, the ur-punk group Bad Religion would add its anthemic "Kyoto Now!" to its live performances. (For one thing, it has a famous guitar opening.)

But at Washington, D.C.'s 9:30 Club last night, the band skipped most of its songs about demography and environmental catastrophe. No "Punk Rock Song," no "Ten in 2010," no "Los Angeles is Burning" and no "Kyoto Now!"

Lead singer Greg Graffin clearly had tort reform issues on his mind though. At one point he walked to the edge of the stage and peered over, commenting, "The only difference from the last time we were here is this sign, saying, 'Not a Step.' Aaaah!" (fake fall)

As said, it's a stretch.
