Just remember that most contemporary rappers don't even bother to rhyme anymore. In fact, listen closely and you may discern that even Eminem doesn't rhyme 80 percent of his lyrics. "Hey kids, do you like Primus? Do you want to see me stick Nine Inch Nails into my eyelids?" (That's just one example....and, probably the most moderate offender). Contemporary rock lyricists (pretty much of one accord) make James Taylor read like Byron Shelly.

And i would quote this as a great lyric to anyone...
"The stories of our childhood condition us to think, that beauty is a basic human trait,
But how are they reconciled with daily realities, like poverty and dominance and rape?"

People do not like what they cannot understand.
The average IQ, by definition, is 100. Methinks Blender is an average person's magazine.

The thing you guys have to understand is, yeah, there are tens of millions of awful lyricists out there; but in order to be included in this kind of list, you have to have achievded some degree of fame, acclaim or at the very least notoriety (K-Fed) to get included. Who gives a crap about the bad lyrics of a dimestore band? That doesn't make for a very inflammatory list, and would actually seem sort of cruel. BR are a well-established force in music, even if not at the forefront of things: they're respected and successful, and so will get their share of jabs to the ribs from attention-seeking music rags.
It's to get people talking about the magazine. That's it.
And for the record-- people like to rag on I Love My Computer. I shall now come out of the closet as a fan of that song. ;) Great guitar solo, and the lyrics are perfect for what the song is. Underrated, IMHO.

It surely seems that lyricists who try to be innovative are getting hammered. Of course the real goofballs are in there (federline, any rapper), but knocking writers who are good at their craft WITHIN THEIR GENRE. Billy Corgan's not bad, Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull is awesome, and #2 Neil Peart is wicked awesome. I guess you have to write bland, generic lyrics to make Blender happy. I'd like to see the top lyricist list.

This has got to be the biggest slap in the face to the American culture. Not only does Greg set the standard on how American's should speak and act, he also conflicts some of the most powerful messages in his music. The editors at Blender only promote the talentless bullshit (Britney Spears) that infests the American airwaves. Maybe if our society would stop being pawns and sheep, they would realize the truths that exist among us.

New America lyrics were what got me into Bad Religion in the first place! Although, yeah, I Love My Computer is kinda silly. Although I love Greg's voice on it.
Anyways...I'm getting the tar and feathers ready; who's chasing down the writers to that article?

You have to wonder whether the Blender people even know what songs Brett/Greg write, maybe they just happened to pick out a few Greg examples by luck. Anyway, they're fucking idiots. Some of Greg's most poignant lyrics are in his solo songs: In the best laid plans of history lie the ruins of the past. And the chronicle of suffering shows the mythic pall they cast. To believe is true religion, but to see is truth at last! Oh, too late to hold a trial. Time doesn't wait for the watchmaker's dial.

Hmm, pretty stupid article. Greg has is bad moments, but the guy's probably written about 150 songs so I'm not surprised they managed to find 2 or 3 bum examples. I do occassionally find his themes a little predictable, but that's only happened in the last few albums (for why that's happened, again let's remember the 100+ songs he'd already written!). I still think he's one of the best lyricists in rock, and he's not merely a man of nerdy academic lyrics. To quote Parallel:
"forging little plays of deception and pain
as we watch our foundation crumble away
staggering like birds against a hurricane
and trying all the while to stay out of each other's way"
Powerful lyrics methinks

Wait, so all the songs in Greg's arsenal, and they can only come up with three? And they don't even explain just what exactly is wrong with those lyrics.
And really, Kevin Federline a better lyricist than Greg? It doesn't take a bias Bad Religion fan to know that's a load of shit.

Man, Greg's lyrics are a huge chunk of why I love BR so much. I've always been a fan of big words, but to use them so eloquently (in rhyme, no less!)...Awesometastic. I think it's a plus when your favorite band is the reason you learn the meaning of over twenty words not regularly used in society.

People just read too much into stuff like this. I think the whole thing was kinda cute. The same magazine puts "Teenage dirtbag" by Wheatus as one the best 500 songs ever. That's also kinda cute. We all know Graffin is an awsome lyricist, and more people would probably agree with that than with what Blender says. Now we can all go back to way more important issues.

Worst lyric: ?The arid torpor of inaction will be our demise? (?Kyoto Now?)
WTF?! Worst lyrics are: "So how do you sleep? / There's nothing to keep / This is deep" in my opinion.
Kyoto Now! has awesome lyrics.
Bonus Worser lyric: ?Damn your transcendental paralysis/We can work together and make sense of this? (?The Hopeless Housewife?)
I'm *sure* that is worse than:
"Hey! Hey! You! You!
I don?t like your girlfriend!
That's Right! No way! No way!
I think you need a new one
Hey! Hey! You! You!
I could be your girlfriend"

I never thought I'd say this:
Bravo Neil!
Let me get this straight:
Greg is #28 and Kevin Federline is #30?
It's hard to even be mad at such a ludicrous assertion. It's like putting your 2 year old's drawings on the fridge. You pat them on the head and say "Good job" even though you know it is terrible, and that there will be many more to come. At least Greg isn't as bad a lyricist as Jim Morrison (#10). Yeah, that makes sense. Jim Morrison is a worst lyricist than Fred Durst? I weep for the future...

Wow. Just...wow. I'm not going to even click that link to look at it. They must've been seriously trying really, really hard to find horrible Graffin lyrics. Why do they suddenly have it out for him? For every questionable Graffin lyric out there (and I can't think of any at the moment), there are 50 others that are thought-provoking and sophisticated. It just boggles the mind.

they definitely just do it to add controversies thats why this world is so fucked up because of this. Luckily its only with music and not a tragedy in the world, as it usually is. If you look at the list its definitely just to piss people off, most of the list is mainstream pop or rock stars that the general population listens to

They were right about Fred Durst and Alanis Morrisette. Rain on your wedding day is only ironic if you're the weatherman.

Fuck Blender up it's hypocritical ass. They were the ones giving almost glowing reviews to their past two albums, yet for some *odd* reason, there isn't a single fucking mention of their new album. Why is that? Is it possibly because 70% of their magazine (which has shrunk by about 50% since it was first published) consists of nothing but lame ads?
blender, in it's first year, had some chops since they reviewed a shitload more cd's than the usual magazine (and obscure ones at that). They also used to be able to write humorously (without trying, they try to hard now and go for obvious bullshit like "glasses LoL!"). Not anymore: they are simply corporate whore shells of their former potential.
Move along folks, Amazon.com user's give better, more constructed reviews nowadays, and for FREE.

I bet 50 cents wasn?t in that list...
Oh wait, he?s not even a lyricist, he just speaks whatever shit comes out of his "mind" over some samples and calls it music. We all know, not every fuck head out there can understand bad religion?s lyrics. Justin Timberlake is way easier to understand dude!

Well I do think Fuck Armageddon is a stupid song. Although Graffin didn't have a list of academic qualifications as long as my arm back then when he wrote it.
