Dogbert, I'm not confusing anything, that's what I said originally. The best thing about Bobby is the way his drums sound on those albums in the context of those songs. Bobby got the best production, for me. Brooks' drums, which he probably makes better use of and comes up with all those crazy fills ya'll seem to like, sound mushed into the overall tone for the jams and use way too much goofy high end for my taste. 'Overture' comes to mind. Brooks is their best drummer. I don't like his production though, so his skills are lost on me.

In the "Greg Graffin wins award"-thread someone posted an entry from Brett's online diary quoting him that they are rehearsing "In the Night", which made me cream my pants.
If they are truly going to play that, I will have to buy myself a plane ticket. I cannot believe they play that song. IN-fucking-CREDIBLE!!!
I can't wait for any kind of recording of this.

W!, I think you're confusing Brooks' skills with the production. Blame that on Joe Barresi or Brett (you know you want on the latter) or praise Ocasek (in the case of Gray Race). One thing os what musicians can do (based on their skills alone). Another thing is how that translates into the overall sound of an album, for thich producers and mixers are the most responsible for.

Opinions all, daniel, but for me the way Bobby sounds on RFH & Gray Race is tops. For me. I like Brooks' work on POB, but I don't think he lived up to it on the next 2 albums. That's my opinion not being a drummer, just a listener. I'm sure technically he's doing something that makes you kids get all goofy.

hey I hate to disagree with you W! But I think brooks has the best production albums and drumming heh. Process of belief drumming sounds great its clear their is just enough treble and bass to keep a balance and his drums are tunes well... And tesf has my favorite tom sounds... How big and clean the tons sound in that album is crazy an in new maps of he'll the kick and cymbals sound amazing listen to the hi hats during pilgrim on the new one they sound so good the kick is big the snare stands out the old production I think sux sounds muddy and tuned improperly

And then you became "the new america". I'm not from the USA. And I don't hate americans. They are the nicest people in the world, but they have a bad government. I never understood why the USA aren't two different country's. All the smart people should live in the North with a democratic president and all the rednecks should live in the south. Or is that a bad idea?

yeah W! I was. It was a really great night. I just remember that when the lights went out the sound of machine guns and that sort of thing came on for a minute and thats what the group came out to. Graffin kind of stood off to the side though. Then Brian started the opening chords of don't sell me short and the rest of the band kicked in for the intro. Then when the lyrics "we don't need..." started is when greg went to the front of the stage. It was really cool. I'm pretty sure when Graffin finally made his presence felt and came forward, he flicked off the crowd as sang "we..." I'm pretty sure I remember that. Is that correct, do you remember. Are you from south texas?

I don't know if they ship to Sweden, but this site ships to the UK and are very reliable. They've got TNA for ?7.99:
http://www.play.com /Music/CD/4- /1063775/New-Amerika /Product.html
It says "(UK)" in the heading of the page, so I assume they might have sites for other countries too.
And yeah, they spelt "America" wrong. :/

Brooks is serius!! I dont known the attitude of Bobby in '90 years. But, when I watch Peter Finestone on the DVD of SUffer during German's tour; I see a guy who is very intense and hardcore when I play drum. But, yes I agree that Brooks is technicaly the best drumers of all three!

From most stores Ive gone to FYE usually has more BR albums that I don't see around. I got the German Import of Punk Rock Songs: The Epic Years for like 13 bucks in the summer. The only thing is most of this album prices are ridiculous but some are very cheap.

My dad got me TNA new two Christmases ago and I got NS new by a special order at FYE in my mall. If you have a FYE near you ask if they will order you one. It doesn't cost any extra just a deposit of like a few bucks which goes towards the purchase once they get it.
Oh but I see you are in Sweden, so maybe that might not work for you. I'd check online.

not that funny :(, it's impossible to find TNA anywhere here, it's the only album i don't have yet, NS I was lucky to find used. On the other hand ITU is far better than those.

I think it's funny when the band says those two albums are bad, because I can guarantee there are more than enough fans that would love to hear that material live and enjoy both of those albums as much as any of the others.

In terms of talent, yes brooks is the best of the three, but all made their own way.
Bobby how I miss thee, see he was a fan and to me there is no better drummer replacement than a die hard fan. He had this awesome gallop, that added a pulse to every standard song (up unto new america)
yes even no substance rocks imo..
Brooks is just wicked..ive seen him play with suicidal/infectious grooves as well as tenacious d and yes he is by far the best quality drummer br has had
ive also had the luck to see pete play, and he truly isnt bad either, I just find it odd that he wanted out of drumming only to join other bands(that kinda stink sorry!!)
There you have my view.. minus the Jay Ziskrout(crazy rich sob!)..do your research and youll know what I mean...

I disagree with you on your views of Bobby and Brooks style. I'd say Bobby had more a poppy sound to everything and Brooks is more punk. I wouldn't say Finestone was the best in terms of skill either, Brooks wins in that category. But Finestone is definitely my favorite.

For me, the bid difference of Modern age vs old age is the drummer! When Bobby Schayer quit BR, Brooks change a little bit the sound of BR. The style of Schayer was hardcore and Brook's style are more jazz punk... Honnestly, im am nostalgic of Schayer but the best drummer of BR was Pete Finestone during '80 years... !

Haha, HomerSapien, that would be great! But I would leave the glasses with thick rims to Brett and have Greg wear goggles like in the American Jesus video. Also, I was thinking that he should rehash the piano thing for the American Lesion version of Cease and while they are at it, they could make the setlist to go Cease - Fields of Mars - Atomic Garden - We're Only Gonna Die so that Greg can perform the little piano pieces those songs have, too.

I think tommy here wins today's BRSuperfan award for discriminating 80-83 and Back to the Known.
For the record, it's:
80-85
Suffer thru Generator
Recipe (it stands alone in awesomeness and record label)
STF thru TNA
PoB thru NMoH

My way of thinking:
1. 80-83
2 Back to the known/suffer
3 no control/ against the grain/ generator
4 recipe/ stranger than fiction / the gray race
5 no substance/ new america
6 Process of belief/Tesf/New maps
yeah it's weird. But back to the known has this rock n roll feeling. and you can hear that on suffer too. ( what can you do?, Give you nothing) I really like songs like that.

I'd personally say Against the Grain is the same age as Generator/Recipe/STF. When I listen to Suffer, and then I listen to Against The Grain, while I can tell it's the same band(even If I knew nothing about BR), It still sounds a bit different.

Yes, the New America tour was free if you sent in the UPC code and receipt, and told them what show you wanted to go to. They mailed you a pretty cool-looking ticket (which I had to give up at the door, dammit!) with the venue stamped on the back. The show I went to was in Austin at Stubb's with LES Stitches, I believe. They opened with 'Let It Burn.'

Is the year 2000 part of the 90's? I always count 0 as 1. Like 1990 is part of the nineties. So I think it's weird The New America isn't part of the modern age.

Oh... If I had the chance to fly over to the US for that show, I'd do it! No Substance IS a kicking album. TNA too, but not zat much.

TNA tour was free if you bought the CD the first week or something, and sent in the reciept along with what show you would like to go to.

The New America tour was free? What? I never heard about that before. You mean they didn't charge any money for any gigs on that tour?
I would LOVE to hear Strange Denial live. Whenever I hear people talk about No Substance, people always bring up Strange Denial, which I just love as it kind of shows an unspoken bond amongst fans as the song isn't particularly special from the album point of view, but everyone seems to have picked it as one of their favourites anyway.
A lot of people seem to love No Substance, even if the band don't. It would be nice if they played more NS songs live, but they would get boring fast, I think.
The New America was a good album, just not a good Bad Religion album (With the exception of Don't Sell Me Short and You've Got a Chance; Amazing BR songs!). I think they should be brought into normal setlist rotation more often.

Hehe ive talked to jay personally about the atlantic era.. Do i need to remind you all what grey race was on also?
Anyway Jay says its the bands combined view that no sub and new america shouldnt be played again, telling me that youd be lucky to ever hear more than 1 or 2 songs from each ever again.
One was biggest killet, and dont sell me short
grey race is loved by to many to be left in the dirt so I cant wait for generator + grey race stuffs!!!

Even though I wish as much as I could that I could be there for even one of the shows, I can't. But I still hope they play either Hear It, Shades of Truth, Strange Denial, or In So Many Ways and someone gets a video of it.
