Rock Band is fun. Period. It's not a conspiracy, it's not an offense. The people who make these games love music. Music is a community, and they know what it's about. People who hate on Rock Band and similar games are missing the boat-- it's not about unfulfilled fantasies, or being a rock and roll poser. There's nothing deep to it, except you get to participate in a fun experience with a rockin soundtrack. Always remember, the fact that you play guitar in your own band does not elevate you above the poor "common folk" who just pretend to rock in a video game.
At their worst, these games are just time killers; at their best, maybe they get people interested in music, open them up to new sounds, and get them thinking, "Hey, maybe I *would* like to pick up a real guitar."

Yeah I agree with what your saying. See I care for a couple reasons if bad religion becomes too small I feel like they won't be motivated enough to keep playing I do not want weenie roast to be the last show I've seen them at I want to hear another 2-3 albums with 14-16 tracks and I have seen a lot of bands in the last couple years a lot of my favorites the mars Volta chilipeppers nofx social distortion offspring but no band gives me that intense feeling n my stomach right before a show that almost feels like its about to be Christmas like bad religion... It makes me feel likea kid again I don't want that to go away keep in mind I'm only 21 I first heard of bad religion the year new America came out though the first album I heard and loved was generator so I want them to play as long as possible they have had a huge impact on my life

about selling out concerts, i have to say, all the shows of br i was at in the last years were always sold out when i entered the venue. only exception was during the TESF mini tour in europe, where they had booked a big venue in Essen Germany, this was ridiculous, people were on vacation and they have such a big venue (which also made the merchandise very expensive, one t-shirt 25 euros... no need to say the blackmarket t-shirts outside the venue after the show for 5 euros went away like free food).

"yeah it was 33 or 34 on the billboard 200 but nmoh opening week sold 8000 copies LESS then empire strikes first and dramitcally fell the following weeks"
well you need to put it in context of cd sales in general, comparing albums i think is not accurate enough. but i agree that the albums that have good singles that you can hear on the radio or tv sell better, NMOH didnt really have one, not when it got released, and honest goodbye getting played on kroq isnt really impressinve enough. they didnt even have a video at that time, and new dark ages video came out way too late.

here in the united states I can honestly say I've been to 6 bad religion shows and I eight heard about it on kroq or on this website. I haven't seen a bad religion flyer ever since back in 97-98 and I certainly don't see it in the paper or any magazines. Maybe its different else where... But I'm saying you have a band that used to sell out shows day in and day out every show or almost and now they cannot. I think the entire punk scene is dieing but bad religion even when punk is in its valleys usually bad religion is still dong well and it seems like its kind of going downhill. Another guy mentioned nmoh did so well because ofthe fans but

mike456 so that just goes to show that Finns love Bad Religion (and NOFX and many other bands), cuz the shows here sell out for sure? Bad Religion had no actual promotion (ok, I show TWO small flyers in whole Helsinki AFTER the show was already sold out) in 2004 and the show in Helsinki sold out in what 3 or 4 hours? In Finland you don't have to promote famous bands, we don't get to see them so often so every frickin' time they manage to come here the shows sell out. Hell, Flogging Molly plays here twice a year and they still sold out a club for 700 people in few hours. Price of tickets was 35 euros and the show was on a weekday, I didn't go since I've already seen them a few times.

"damn it is hard to type on the iPhone while driving" then dont, so hard to wait till you get a free moment to type your thoughts? and about the promoting thing, thats hard to believe, i live in germany, and shows get promoted here all the time. you are telling me there are no posters in town for the show? music magazines and newspapers dont have their tour dates? thats simply not true, at least not for here. and why should a show be sold out? people might have better and more important things to do there perhaps. or they like to buy their tickets very late or at the show.

I will comment on the amsterdamn thingy. Bad religion never sells out shows because they do not promote any shows. They book play n thats that. When is the last time you got a bulletin about a show? Hardly any radio advertising... When is the last time you saw a bad religion flyer? Or one of their shows in you local paper? Only the people
who follow super closely know about their shows. Casual listeners do not

Jay said in an interview that the songs they want to play are the songs they play, and there are some songs that they know are popular but they don't play because they like them.

I am going to the melkweg in Amsterdam. I know all the songs, so not all the Dutch people are stupid. But I also noticed that NOFX sold out in a week or so. I guess not a lot of people know ( songs from) BR in Holland. I am a little bit mad at the fact that most bad religion 'fans' I know, only know about 3 songs. La is burning and punk rock song and 21st century. They don't even know the other 25 songs BR plays. So I don't get it why BR plays the same setlist over and over again. They should just play whatever they want to play. I have a lot of respect for BR, that they can actually play american jesus every show for the last 15 years. I couln't do that. I'm in a rock n roll coverband and after 4 years I already hate to play Blue Suede Shoes every week.

I don't want to sound like "the ultimate fan" (which I'm not), but I guess you guys understand what I mean. Anyway, it's going to be great just to see them for the first time in a few years, even tho it will cost me way too much.

Not related to the news but who cares. I just noticed that the show in Melkweg, Amsterdam (9th of July, 1000 tickets on sale, I'm going) hasn't even sold out yet! And the tickets cost what, 22.5 euros? What's wrong with the Dutch? If I wanted to sound like an asshole I'd say you guys don't deserve to see BR. Last time BR payed us a visit the tickets were 29 euros (now they would be 35e<) and the venue sold out in few hours. Maybe that's why the audience was so fucking awesome, only hardcore-fans came to the show, truly something magical.
Hell, even NOFX sold out a venue for 1500 people in few weeks with tickets that cost 37 euro in Finland.
I'm a little afraid that the concert in Amsterdam will be like the show in Stockholm in 2005. My favourite band playing some of the greatest songs ever written, but the rest of the audience doesn't share the same passion as I (and some others) do.

dabielr you should consider not going to festivals to see Bad Religion if you have the option. They're always going to play their standards at these shows. The band is a lot better in smaller gigs where they have a longer set.

I would like to hear Honest Goodbye live in Amsterdam next month. On the other hand there are too many songs I would like to hear so I'm not dissapointed if they miss one or two or thirty of my favourites. Haven't downloaded the show yet, but Honest Goodbye sounded nice to me at last year's Weenie Roast. I liked the way they played it, but I understand that some people don't like it, it's very different from the way it's "supposed" to be.

It also now says on his twitter page:
" Seven meetings and four executive decisions later, back at Sound City putting the finishing touches on "Sorrow" for Rock Band 2 01:04 PM May 16, 2008 from web "
So I think he actually does mean Rock Band 2

adress for the 700kbs stream (which is the same as the fullscreen as far as i checked), just copy and paste in the streaming assistant for saving (erase the spaces): mms://kroq-700-weenieroast-080517 .wm.llnwd.net/ kroq_700_weenieroast_080517?MSWMExt =.asf

anyone who wants to record it, you just need to download video lan client player from http://www.videolan.org/ and chose streaming assistant, and then save the stream into a file, just chose asf for example as capsulation, you just need to paste the adress, you can get it when you click on full screen, for me it tried to save it to ta file, it could be that video lan client also remembers the last streams played as well.

To the people bashing Rock Band:
You are the fucking losers, my friends. I mean, jesus, it's a fucking video game. I do happen to have my own band, I do happen to write my own music, but it's always fun to sit down and play a game like Rock Band. Also, in case you haven't noticed, playing a Rock Band guitar is not even close to playing the real guitar. They're both fun.
P.S.
I might finally pick Rock Band up for this, assuming he actually means Rock Band 2.

i can play guitar and sing better than most. and i used to like to talk shit about games like guitar hero and rock band too. until one time at a party when i was drunk and decided to lighten the fuck up and give it a try and now i see the appeal. its just simple fun you guys, you dont need to think of it as "living out your fantasies in front of a tv screen." but as for them choosing to put sorrow on it i'm not too pleased

I'm thinking brett doesn't really know about DLC and he thinks the song is just for rock band 2, when in reality it's going to be out soon for rock band.
Well that's just me being hopeful...

I don't hate the song, I just find it overplayed, alot, but it's one of their most popular songs.
They probably didn't really have a choice in song(Harmonix was probably like "if you want to be in this game, the song will be Sorrow" pretty much).
If they were gonna be in a music based video game, the choices of songs are pretty much Sorrow, Infected, Digital Boy,and Fuck Armageddon. Infected was in Guitar Hero so chances are in Rock Band they'll want something else, in order to keep a T rating they can't have Fuck Armageddon, so it's pretty much Digital Boy or Sorrow, and chances are more people know Sorrow.
(Disclamer: I've been up for over a day, so right now this all makes sense. For some reason I have a feeling I'll read this tomorrow and be like "wtf was I talking about")

"I'm sure its ridiculously fun to play with friends, if you all have no life and want to live out your fantasies in front of a TV screen playing a game made for preteen girls and boys."-
says the guy who spends his time to make a useless comment about an unimportant bad religion news on the internet.

I'm honestly disappointed...of all the Bad Religion songs, they pick Sorrow? There are so many better choices.
And Sean, the appeal of Rock Band is that it is ridiculously fun to play with friends.

I never understood the appeal of that game... I mean, I could sit around and pretend to play, or I could just actually write my own shit and start a band... its not like GTA where the appeal comes from be able to do things virtually that you can't really go out and do (like kill hookers), but rack band doesn't simulate anything that an average person can't get off thier ass and do themselves.
Does it just make you feel more talented?
I'm not trying to be harsh, so don't start in with the angry fanboy bullshit... keep it real, I'm genuinely curious.
