The problem, Albaholic, is that I actually do think that offering these acoustic songs and the List show is a favor. Sure, if they were released for free it would be even better, but I can't and won't complain because Epitaph decided to charge some money.
Just to give an example, there was a beautiful pro video recording of a San Francisco concert in 2002. Although it was streamed (at very low bitrate), the master has never been released, even though many, including me, would've paid to see the original. There are many more instances where good recordings haven't been released into public, so I'm really glad that they've decided to release this concert - and I don't mind paying if it's a reasonable price.
Regarding the acoustic songs, they have recorded acoustic demos ever since the early years, so that's nothing new. What is new, however, is that they've given us the chance to hear them instead of letting those rot away somwhere we'd never have gotten access to.

First of all you contradict yourself you say you don't think you're entitled to something but you end up saying it should be free like the List Show. That shows that you think you're entitled to this content for free which is an arrogant and ungrateful thing to ask for. Also I would like you to answer this question: Would you rather they didn't release this stuff?

Su, nobody was demanding any new content for free and certainly no one felt "entitled" to anything. Go back and re-read that original announcement topic and you'll see that some people (such as I) merely took beef with the fact that this re-issue was mentioned in the article as some sort of "giving back to the fans". Selling something to me isn't them doing me a favor. It's called business. <-- why people are too thick to understand this simple concept baffles me. The free "the list" show in Vegas, now THAT was them doing fans a favor. Selling the concert on DVD is merely business.

I would say it's more ungratefulness rather than a sense of entitlement, but it's pretty much the same attitude. It's that, hey screw them for releasing new stuff and asking people to pay for it, attitude. Rather than them being thankful for the new material that was released as a favor to the fans they would rather complain about it.

Sorry, Catalina, that comment about entitlement wasn't directed at you. It's just something I noticed since the beginning of the announcement of the deluxe edition. There are quite a few people who really feel like BR should've given away the deluxe edition for free.
Also, about the double album, that was indeed planned, however, it was supposed to be a 'real' double album, not with acoustic or a live show. They had written 27 songs up to that point, but for reasons unknown to us, lots of these songs never made it past the creating stage, so the double album idea was scrapped. The only song which apparently kinda made it to recording stage was New Chapter, but Jay said that the song didn't work out.

Ok, fine. Just 2 more things before I get completely flamed off of this board:
Wasn't Brett thinking about a double album before it was released? I know that got nixed, obviously, but it seemed like Brett had an idea to do something put out something similar to this at the time. That's partly why I asked. If I'm mistaken, then I'm sorry for taking up board space. And you're right: I don't have to buy it. Furthermore, I don't think I'm entitled to anything--this just seems... weird to me.

I also don't get what people are really complaining about.
First of all, obviously both Epitaph, and the members of BR want to make money. This is their only job(except Brett), being musicians.
Second, Live At The Palladium costs ~18 dollars on Amazon(which I've found to be one of the cheapest places to buy new DVDs and CDs), and lets say an EP costs ~8 dollars. Together those cost $26, so then you add the 12 dollar NMOH, which brings it up to $38. That cost doesn't include the 2 posters and the book or whatever it was that it comes with. The Deluxe NMOH costs 22 dollars, so you're saving 16 dollars essentially, and like other people have said, nobody is holding a gun to your head to buy it. If you are a true BR fan, you would spend the 22 dollars and support the band.
I'm also sure this is all good quality stuff, and not like The Riot which costs like, 15 dollars.

I really don't understand this sense of entitlement some have, like that BR owes them something. Sorry to rant, but an EP and a DVD alone wouldn't have been much cheaper, if at all. I wonder what people would've said if BR just released the Acoustic EP plus the List show.
why didn't they just wait a year to release New Maps of Hell with all the additional features on it?
Who in their right mind would do that? Or even want that? BR certainly didn't release NMoH thinking 'we'll release a deluxe edition a year later to rip off the fans'. At the release date they were not even considering a deluxe edition.
why didn't they release a NEW album, but add these extra songs etc to the new album?
You know that the new songs are slated to be on the next full-length, don't you? The main draw are the ACOUSTIC versions. Brett and Greg just thought that it might be nice for fans to see how they write songs. People don't actually have to buy it.

Why can't Bad Religion release a 75-song triple-disc album (25 songs per disc) and pay fans to buy it?

Because they wanted to get NMOH out since it was already delayed, and they probably had no plans to release a deluxe edition at that time.
Also the list show wouldn't have happened because it was to celebrate the release of NMOH.

@Su: I'm well aware of that. I think the question should be why didn't they just wait a year to release New Maps of Hell with all the additional features on it? It wouldn't be the same album, and wouldn't have the exact same features on it, but it would give it that special package aesthetic that Brett seems bent on creating.

@ Fantasticthepan & Catalina: Releasing exactly the same deluxe edition in '07 would've been impossible.
1) The Las Vegas show had not been played then.
2) Even if they had already performed it, they would've only gotten the rights to release it half a year after the List recorded the concert.
3) They weren't thinking about releasing acoustic songs.
4)The new songs would most likely not have been written at that time.

@fantasticthepan: Probably. NMOH did pretty well if I remember correctly--what's a better way to celebrate than to cash in on it? Epitaph's business model isn't exactly Dischord's, you know.
