I'm writing this review a few hours after I've been crushed, mangled and flamed by the Swedish pop death metal band In Flames. 15 000 people at a death metal concert! It's amazing!
Anyway, this review is meant to be about the Bad Religion show at the West Coast Riot festival in Gothenburg, Sweden three days ago. I left work at 15:00 together with my chief and we went into Gothenburg for the one day punk festival West Coast Riot at a pier in the harbor of Gothenburg. One of the first band i saw was the Irish folk music/punk band Flogging Molly and i thought for a while that the audience should sink the pier into the ocean. At 19:40 Bad Religion walked up on the stage starting of with 21st Century Digital Boy. GregGraffin had a plaster at his forehead and later, during the NOFX show, El Hefe said that he drank with Graffin the night before and head-butted him! Don't know if it was true or not.
Don't actually know how much people it was at the show since i was in the pit all the time. The sound wasn't that good and it was hard to hear Greg's voice sometimes, especially when he was talking between the songs but it wasn't much talking during the show since they only got one hour to play. Mattias Kling, journalist at the major Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet writes in his review that he was nearly about to shit his pants during last 15 minutes cause it was so damn good! And the final with ?American Jesus?/?Generator?/?Infected?/?Sorrow? was damn good! Overall, it was a great show and the set list was awesome, even it was to short. One hour with Bad Religion is way to short, but there was and extra number 3 hours after they walked off the stage.
the headliner for the festival was NOFX and they talked a lot about how great Bad Religion is. Fat Mike said that it should be hard to match Bad Religions show. The final song for NOFX was a a cover of the Bad Religion song We're only gonna die and Greg Hetson and Jay Bentley piced up a guitar and played the song with NOFX and after that they jamed a few minutes toughter with them.
By the way, Mattis Kling, as I wrote about earlier has listed his to 40 albums between 1991-2008 and he has listed the Bad Religion album Generator at place 3 before Metallicas black album and Panteras Vulgar display of power.

I've seen NOFX do that cover of We're only gonna die with Hetson on guitar. Its pretty awesome.

In Flames - only good up to and including the album "Clayman". Pop death metal, nice. Dark Tranquility > current In Flames. And Opeth rule all.
Oh sorry, this is not Blabbermouth.net, I almost forgot. It's a bit awkward that NOFX headline over Bad Religion nowadays (at least in Sweden). I remmeber the second BR show I ever witnessed - it was in 1992 (Music Circus Ruhr, Oberhausen) and they were supported by none other than NOFX. The last show I've seen with Brett onstage (still miss his stage presence and musicianship live). It's interesting that I kinda lost interest in NOFX after the mediocre "Heavy Petting Zoo", while still being a loyal BR 'fan'. Age, maybe? |

I have a feling the chanses that thay are gonna play anything from No Substens or New America are extrimly small, I get a feling that thay don?t like this albums that mutch.
But thats just what I think, could be wrong |

Agreed on that the show was great, still think they shoulda played No Substance, as I screamed for a number of times. Meh.

Bad Religion at West Coast Riot = great success! Nice setlist, excellent show. I don't think the sound was that bad.

Nice review!
I didnt notice any bad sound though? Jays mic were way too low but thats nothing new. West Coast Riot had 10 800 visitors, i think almost everyone of those were watching the show. but i were in the pit as well so i cant be sure. |

That band-aid was because of Graffin's run-in with a door in Milan. :)
