Update: Hey everyone, Marty here.
Sites cost money... It's as easy as that. In order to cover the expenses for the server and domains we've added Google AdSense ads to the site.
And maybe, in the future, when we make more money than we're actually spending on the site, we'll throw in some sort of contest with prices. Thanks!
As you can see the new site is up.
Please note that it's never been our intention to go live with a 100% completed site. Our goal was to go live with at least the same amount of content and functionality as the old site had. All additional stuff will be added later.
So.... what do you need to know?
Known issues/bugs (this list will be updated)
We've started a topic in the forum in which you can report any problems you're having with the new site & forum. Before reporting anything, please have a look at that topic to see if the issue has been reported already. Here's the link.
Here are some of the bigger issues:
- It appears that the Safari browser has some problems displaying tables. This is being worked on.
- News comments don't accept apostrophs ('). -> Solved
- Dead links. Yup, the site is being worked on constantly... so dead links may be found.
- The RSS news feed doesn't work.
- Sending an email to a registered user by clicking the email link in his/her user profile results in an error message (only applicable if the user has made his/her email address public).
- The automatically sent 'topic reply notifications' from the forum contain incorrect links and they look all messed up (html). -> Solved
- Sending emails to thebrpage.net. The address punk@thebrpage.net is the only thebrpage.net email address that will work from now on.
- The form to report news does not work. Please report any news directly to punk@thebrpage.net. -> Solved

I have a backup of all the content that was on the old site, so nothing has been lost. However, the tabs were one of the least important pieces of info on the site if you ask me. Especially since there are sooo many sites that are specialized in tabs. But if there's a strong desire to also have tabs on the site I'll put it on my to-do list.
There were a couple of tabs on here that I didn't find on other tab sites, so it might be worth putting them on.

The ads are always on the right hand side of the site.
If you don't see them, check your adblock settings (or whatever tool/plugin you're using to block ads).
Just a suggestion about the page look: Perhaps you could lift the buildings/skyscrapers a bit higher with more of the cover included, at least to just above the BR title. I like it but there's so little of the New Maps cover. :)
That's something I tried already, but then the image would have a very ugly border; Especially on the left. It looked like it was just pasted there and came out of nowhere.
Right now the skyline starts very smoothly on the left. I hope this makes sense :s

For everyone who hasn't noticed it before, under the 'interact' link you can find more about BR Day (history, etc.).
Even though it hasn't been celebrated for years, we still thought it would be the perfect date to launch the new site. :)
Edit:
Here's a direct link: http://www.thebrpage.net/br_day.asp

I noticed too, but thought it was a given that BR fans would know this; that the 5th is BR day is also why the announcement of the new site for that date (as well as the countdown) was pretty awesome.

Jau_Peacecraft,
For me functionality is more important than style. At least, right now it is. That's also why the style sheets are far from optimized at the moment. Once we're up and running for a little while we can start fixing that. So if you want to play around with Stylish, go ahead... and maybe we can update the style sheets based on that.

no no, lol; I like the site design, & modern is good. I should've used the term negative space (of which is important for readability) instead of sparse.
Overall I like it, especially as it reminds me of the old facebook layout, which I sorley miss since they rolled that abomination of Web 2.5 sardine can fit layout recently : .
No worries though, I can already tell the site will have improved functionality; everything else is just nitpicks of mine that if I wanted to, I could use stylish in firefox to experiment with :D

@Jau_Peacecraft,
What do you mean exactly by "sparse modern layout"? You don't want the site to look modern?
The themes based on BR albums will have no effect on whether the layout of the site is sparse or not. The layout will, of course, remain the same... it's just that the use of colors, page header, footer and left menu will differ per theme.
I agree with you that the space (especially on the homepage) will be filled soon enough.

I will make time out of my schedule for more free time (i.e. more time to work on the site) in time for the new design debut.
As for the appearence, the possibilities of customized CSS themes based on various BR albums is brilliant, & fixes my previous concern of the "sparse modern layout". I think in time, space will be used more efficiently, & the site will fill-out.
Also, marty, for pop up info thingies, you might want to try pure CSS pop-ups here: http://meyerweb.com/eric/css/edge/popups/demo.html
The solution doesn't involve javascript (so you do not have to worry about whether users have it turned on or off), and the site also shows how to use the pop up thing for images.
Even though it's for a menu, it should definitely help you out :D

"There's no CROSSBUSTER LOGO!"
It's in the upper left-hand corner... unless I'm missing something.

@Sad,
A little hint box that pops up sounds like a good idea. Thanks for the input.

"The "Bad Religion Lexicon" will be integrated in the dicography section. As a result all the "big words" in the lyrics will be made into links, taking you directly to an explanation. "
This functionality is quite interesting. Not sure how you're planning to do it, but as a sugestion, you it would be interesting to show the explanations of the "big word" in some sort of hint or lighboxexplanations, so the user wouldn't have to leave the lyrics page.

The pictures of the vinyl releases are already included on the album pages. But in case of the example in the screenshot (Tested) I haven't been able to find those yet (so those will be added later).
And the splitting of the track list in a A-side or B-side is already on our to-do list.

another idea: how about paying more attention to the vinyl releases by including the LP cover pictures on the album pages and splitting the track listings between side A and side B?

Thanks everyone! After we've gone live with the new site we'll open some sort of 'Suggestion Box' topic in the forum where you can spill your guts about stuff that you'd like to see changed or added: functionality / layout / color schemes / etc.

@sausage spray,
Well, there's only so much information you can put in the tracklist. I'm afraid there's just not enough space for that. You have to keep in mind that it's not always as simple as "Greg Graffin" or "Brett Gurewitz"... Sometimes 3 of 4 persons have co-written a song. It's just too much information to put in the tracklist.
The information is still available, of course, when you click on a song in the tracklist (see last screenshot).

@VelocityVC,
Yes, new song interpretations can definitely be added. I've added a new screenshot of the song Operation Rescue from the Tested album. At the bottom you can see the Song interpretations. Registration is required, though.

How about adding a "(Graffin)" or "(Gurewitz)" to each song in the track listings? The way it used to be on the old BR page?

Wow the new layout looks nice! Fortunately its not overloaded and looks quite modern. Great job!
Will there be a way to submit new interpretations?

For now we're actually thinking about creating several styles that users can choose from. For example, a Suffer-style or a Recipe for Hate-style.
That's a really good idea.

@tommy,
We tried to give the site a bit of a New Maps of Hell feeling. So that's why the color red was used in all the headers and why the skyline was added at the bottom. The blood on the logo was added for the same reason. When the new album comes out everything will probably be different.

Thanks for the input. All suggestions are welcome of course. So feel free to take one of those screenshots and be creative on it with photoshop, paint or whatever.

It sounds awesome! One thing that I don't really like about the new lay out is the bad religion logo with the red paint or blood. It should look better when it's only on the letters.

Nice but a little stale. Bit more colour would top it off nicely!
I'm impressed with how much more you're adding to the site though, it sounds like it'll be pretty awesome in the end. Look forward to seeing it!

Thanks for the videos, but please don't use a random news item for posting this. The forum is the perfect place for letting everyone know.
