i dig new dark ages. i always thought the bridge or breakdown or whatever was kind of jarring lyrically though (nothing to keep...this is deep, etc...). but i myspaced brett about it once and he said he was trying for irony because of the simplicity of the refrain.
Thank Brett(=God) for this comment. I have always thought exactly the same, my friend!
At least your further inquiry will help me cringe less whenever I hear that part in the future. If anything, this confirms that as usual there are many layers of meaning to every song Brett writes. That's why he's the best contemporary songwriter.

odd % lol br has always been more about the words and meaning than sound.
in the 89 along the way video brett and others are interviewed stating that the lyrics are indeed the most important part BUT the music is the VEHICLE of those words. So you have to at least like the vehicle to hear the words.
basically :P
so in my view, that percentage is backwards 80% lyrics 20% sound.. but id range it more around 70 30 these days, as the tech and age + experience gains on BR hehe
and yes i know su!! we all miss her hehe.. darn it..
Well, the thing about Bad Religion songs is that they're more than just "rocking". They are also meaningful and intelligent and to some extent represents our mindset (in the way that fans tend to share general political and religious views as the band).
Of course, you don't have to analyze every word in every single song, and you can certainly enjoy a song for the melody alone. There's more to it than that, though.
agreed
But when I understand 95% of the words in a song, I usually understand the meaning of the song. I love BR for 80% for their melodies, greg vocals etc. and only 19% of me thinks the lyrics are the reason why I like them.

nonetheless i still kind of cringe when i sing that part though.
otherwise the song has quality lyrics. animals with golden rules and ezekiel's call are good phrase turns.

I think everyone here has just overlooked the fact that... ... ... Brett has finally signed up!!!!! Woohoo! Let's have a toast Su! Wherever you are :((((
PS: Yes, Benja, Spanish/French/Portuguese, etc speakers have that advantage when it comes to English vocabulary derived from Latin. Having said that, I wouldn't understand why a word like "delight" would have to be added to the BR Lexicon.

He seems to have crossed the two meanings of the word together, even though the first meaning seems to be a fabrication. No wonder it didn't make sense.

Sometimes I find that some words wich are very common in spanish (like "susurrations", "susurros") exist in english but (it seems to me) are not usually used. I think that because I only see them in BR songs

I would hope he read the Oxford English Dictionary for the definition. 'Tis the gospel, is it not....
But no, the word is used in context and so makes perfect sense, so I don't know what he was on about.....

Dear BR Page,
I'm not sure where the above article is getting it's definition of the word "Susurration" but in fact the word means whisper or murmur which makes perfect sense in the song. Of course it wasn't used merely for it's sound (although it might have been because it's a pretty good onomatopoeia isn't it?).
Yours,
Brett
