YES! I heard the same similarities between "The Lie" and "Pretenders" the first time I heard TPOB. I told my girlfriend, and even played her both songs, but she didn't really hear the likeness.
I like BR for thier originality, so it bothers me when they copy another song, even if it is one of thier own... and unintentional... and the resemblance is vague............ and i need a job.

I dont know if this has been pointed out yet, but "The Lie" and the b-side "Pretenders" both share the same riff, and even vocally, they are pretty much the same. in "Lie" he sings "Why do you lie, would you betray your soul" in "Pretenders" he sings "Hey Iyee I, Hey Iyee I I Oh". see? Lie rhymes with I, and soul rhymes with oh. So yes, the Lie is definately a filler song.

Yeah, the Lie sounded like a "New America" song, but "the fast life" sounded like something off of Process. You don't belong also sounded like a filler. But if were talking about filler songs, then The Offspring is the undisputed Champion of filler songs.

In response to the person who mentioned that BR albums have one or two filer songs, I have to say that "The Lie" is a perfect example from _Process_of_Belief_. It sounds like it belongs on the _New_America_, probably should have been left out.

Keef, I agree with most of what you said. But I am just curious about which songs you would consider filler songs from Bad Religion, In my opinion there are none, they are the only band I know that do not make a bad song.

I would rather see an album with 14 really killer tracks, the best they could do, than one with 14 killer tracks and 5 shit ones. Filler really kills an album for me. I'm always sad when the new BR album I just bought ends way too quickly at 40 minutes, but hey, if that's the best they can do, I applaud them for having quality control. It seems to me that even most BR albums have one or two songs that just fill up space, and it would be a more solid, consistent album if they removed them. As an example, note how I just keep rambling on and on, and if I'd made my damn point in one sentence it would probably be much more effective. OK I'll shut up now.

Katie, thanks, now I know I'm not completely alone anyway. I'll probably end up downloading anyway, but I'll wait some time at least.
And Kalle, no, they don't HAVE to. Punk isn't something with rules! Eevill, I agree completely about that, though those three albums would maybe sound weird if you mix them together.

I just want to applaud the guy who mentioned the Minutemen, one of the greatest overlooked punk bands from the 80's southern California scene. Not your typical sounding punk band, but great all around. We probably wouldn't have ever heard of bands like Sublime, or even the Red Hot Chili Peppers if it weren't for the Minutemen. Ok, I will be quiet now, after all this is a Bad Religion website.

It would be theoretically possible (and downright appealing to most people) for Epitaph to stuff Suffer, No Control and Against The Grain onto one CD and sell that for 30 bucks Canadian (So like 20 bucks American) in remastered format. I'd buy it.
A good example of a great punk album that was long: Double Nickels On The Dime by the Minutemen. 79:59 anyone?

Hell, punk albums have to be short. Think of Suffer or No Control.

Eevill, no I haven't, I'm waiting. I'm not commenting on the quality of the songs or anything, just that it would be nice with a longer album once in a while.
rka, that doesn't have to do with this at all, but search through the forum, and you will find lyrics for all songs.

Grillo, have you downloaded the album off of Soulseek or wherever, or are you waiting until June 8?

What I would like to see is a 79-minute punk blast, filled to the top with 1-2 minute songs, and the occasional longer one. That would be completely badass .

This makes me think; why not put in one or two additional songs? It's not like they couldn't fit them in, total cd length is 80 minutes. Just look at Metallica, filling up every cd to the limit. I'm not comparing BR to Metallica, cause their music style and most importantly song lengths are completely different, but hey, Against the grain and Stranger than fiction (EU version) had 17 songs!
