Greg Graffin made an appearance on Morning Joe on MSNBC to talk about his book Anarchy Evolution. Check the following video to see what Greg had to say about the book, Bad Religion and science.
There's already a lively discussion going on in the forum right here. Also, if you want to meet Graffin during his book tour check the tour dates to see if he's coming to your city!
On a related note, the guys from The Pod Delusion did an interview with Greg when Bad Religion was in London a few weeks ago. Check out the 14 minute interview on their site or emebbed below:

I think Greg did a great job on Morning Joe, considering the limited amount of time he had on the show and to answer their questions! He definitely could have gone into more depth if he had more time on the show, which I think he deserved. I think the hosts were trying to start up some sort of debate by having that woman claim that she believed in both god and evolution. The only thing I'm worried about with Greg is how tired he looked - I think he pulled an all-nighter and then went on the show! Maybe the pic at the bottom was taken after he was on the show, taking a nap?

Science and anarchy have a lot in common in a way that was not touched on in the interview, but I thought Greg was going to say it. In science (unlike, perhaps, in some of the institutions where scientific investigation takes place), there is no hierarchy; no authority (ideally). There is no boss who gets to say what the right ideas or the wrong ideas are. Science gets kind of close to the anarchic ideal many of us might share. But the irony of this is that this anarchic system is itself fairly ordered, and what's more is that it is a magnificent tool for understanding the natural order of the universe. So far as we know, it is the only tool for doing so successfully.
Science is one of humanity's most successful enterprises. At its best, it succeeds without hierarchies of dominance and authority. Not always like this in practice, of course. 10/06/2010 at 13:16

When you see him in a suit on television you realize that his students probably can not see him as a singer in a punk band.
He certainly looks like a boring professor guy in a suit LOL When I saw him in this aspect, it took a while before I saw BR greffe and I have seen loads of interviews with him. 10/03/2010 at 02:07

Someone asked him about Punk Professor at the NY book signing. He said they just shot a pilot, then it fell by the wayside due to his book. The concept of the show was him doing fieldwork and making scientific excursions while BR was out on tour. He said it might be a possible idea for the future, but he didn't say it in a way that I would expect for it to ever happen. 10/02/2010 at 18:17

I'm pretty sure Greg was on Bill Maher's old show (Politically Incorrect) a couple of times back in the 90's. 10/02/2010 at 14:53

I wish he'd gotten to say more... like explaining *how* Bill Maher let Billo off the hook. Also, Mika Brzinski (or however you spell it) and Joe Scarborough are two of the most egotistical, obnoxious people I have ever heard talk. Sigh... go on The Daily Show, Greg!!!
MSNBC...an odd choice for a promotional appearance but I'm sure it was HarperCollins decision or Greg's publicist. I thought he did well considering the business digest format of the show. Seriously, who would watch that show? People that are well cultured enough to be a fan of BR or are interested in evolutionary biology probably don't even watch TV anymore.I read the first chapter last night and Greg makes a great case on how punk rock and evolutionary biology are related but he certainly won't be able to sum it up in a 5 minute morning talk show segment. Still, Greg's positive attitude shines through.
I watch that show.... sure mika and joe are really annoying but other than that I like it. so yeah I'm not one of those well cultured br fans.. and I'm ok with that 10/02/2010 at 08:57

I could see how Awkward that would be for Greg. 10/01/2010 at 15:20

I'd love to see a show where he wore his suit jacket and those thick rimmed glasses all the while maintaining a very professional (professor like) demeanor. This is always how I picture him when I listen to No Direction. 10/01/2010 at 14:58
