The day before their latest album, The Dissent of Man, hit stores, Bad Religion performed live at the AOL studios for Spinner's Interface series. After playing six songs - including The Devil In Stitches and Wrong Way Kids - the band sat down to talk about the new record, their history and how they usually celebrate an album's release.
http://www.spinner.com/interface/bad-religion
Let's start with the interview:
And here are the songs. In absolutely great quality, by the way!
Suffer
American Jesus
Infected
Sorrow
The Devil In Stitches
Wrong Way Kids
Also check out this interview with Jay in which he talks about how Bad Religion has changed musically, influences and the collaboration with Mike Campbell on the new album.
Read the entire interview here: http://www.theaquarian.com/2010/10/20/interview-with-jay-bentley-of-bad-religion-crossing-over/
"I hope that there’s been some sort of maturity in the song writing and the technical aspect of being able to play and learning our craft. It’s not something that we set out to change the world with. The whole idea was always that we want to share things that are in our heads with other people. In 1980, it was just pound on your guitars as hard as you can and play it as fast as you can, and that’s how we’re going to do it. But you start learning that, much like other things in life, you’re not going to be the fastest band; you’re not going to be the loudest band; but you’re going to be the best Bad Religion that is out there."

@ BadReligionFTW The best version of American Jesus is the one they did for the Peel Sessions. Jay's backing vocals are awesome. Trust me!
not only the backing vocals are great, but because at that time it was a new song, Greg sings it with a lot of "feeling".
I never thought about it that way. So the new songs we are hearing live now are greg singing them at his finest? idk

Holy crap, the sound quality has me drooling.... :O....
Brooks drums are so juicy, the kick is loud and sharp, the snare is deep and the hi-hat's real loose. I love it. Greg's singing is perfect.

At something like 1:36 on American Jesus, you're hearing harmonies,
and yet none of them are at their microphones.
It's great anyway! :). Camera angles switch too much though...

I don't mind fake backup vocals as long as they don't throw out the entire live performance like they did on Live At The Palladium. There wasn't a single live backup vocal on there. Just use the original live recording and maybe add an extra track afterwards.
Anyway, these are some great videos and I wish I could save them for my archive. Biggest letdown though... Brett didn't play the solo in Sorrow.

I think the backing vocals are live. I mean, there is no audience and they must have recorded everything in multi tracks. So even when someone doesn't sing directly in the microphone you can add a hell of a lot compression and it might still sound loud enough. not 100% sure, but it's just a strange idea that they would go in to their mixing room and sing some stuff over it. They're a punk rock band. I think it's really good quality videos and they should hire these people to make the next live dvd! the audio is crystal clear, unlike the new maps of hell bonus dvd. thank you br and spinner

It must make Bobby and Pete feel kinda crappy when the band is always talking about how great Brooks is and how much better they feel having him in the band... I mean, it's the truth, but sometimes I wonder if Bobby or Pete are watching/reading these interviews thinking "man i didn't realize how much they thought i sucked"
Wow, I wish the harmonies at all their shows were like that. At the end of Devil, Brian and Jay were right on! That was great!
Agreed.
Though it seems that both Brian and Jay, esp Brian, have been doing a LOT of great vocal work on this tour in particular! It was nice having Brett's vocals too. VERY on point performances and something I'm recommending to any friends. Great intro to the band!
