After an almost 5 months absence (with the exception of KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas and 91X Wrex The Halls) Bad Religion is ready to hit the stage again. This spring the band will tour the US together with Rise Against and Four Year Song starting on April 5th. All tour dates can be found here.
Looking at that poster, someone definitely must have made a mistake: Rise Against above Bad Religion??? That can't be right, can it? Anyway, these shows will turn out to be awesome. Remember 2004?

God damn it, the tickets to this sold out so fucking fast. I didn't get one for either the Baltimore or D.C. shows. I probably spent over US$500 last year on BR-related stuff (concert tickets, travel to concerts, TDOM stuff, Greg's books, vinyl box set). Now I'm gonna go bend over for StubHub and shell out probably $90 to see maybe a 15-20 song set. GROAN. Not to say it isn't worth it, though, or else I wouldn't be doing it. Bad Religion, why do you have to rock so much?

I guess I thought since the CD came out in Sept that tour didn't have the newer music on it. My mistake. Either way, still rather wait until closer to me and not an opening band.

I see a few comments on the subject of Canada. I'm fairly sure that the shows that are listed on this site are the only ones that BR are going to be playing in on this tour. That means they won't be playing any shows in Canada, or anywhere outside of the US. Almost a month after the last US show, Rise Against is playing some festival in Toronto where they likely wouldn't even need an opening band, and it seems to be like a completely random show, not part of the tour, so I'm almost certain there will be no Canadian shows on this tour with BR playing.

I am SO excited for this, and even more excited that they're actually coming to my home town!!! The fact that they came to my town back in 2004 was a shock and something I thought would never happen ever again. I literally screamed when I read this, my coworkers thought I was getting attacked. Anyway, I am a little shocked that it appears that BR will be opening up for Rise Against. It's gotta be a typo...

BR is way bigger than RA here in Finland. There's no way Rise Against could headline a festival like Ilosaarirock the way BR did last year.

St. Augustine is 30 minutes away from Jacksonville (and N.E. Florida has 1 million people).
If BR's set is not short, I'll go....I drove to Orlando to see a full set....this is way closer.
They better play at LEAST 45 minutes. I'm not fond of a lot of Punk bands...only BR. They're the only band that counts.
Cody - yeah, that is technically correct. However, Rise Against sucks, and the best bands (i.e. Bad Religion) are typically supposed to be the "main band" in the tour.
The headliner is going to be the one that sells the most tickets. I think at this point Rise Against is big enough that it wouldn't make any sense for them to open for Bad Religion. I don't disagree that Bad Religion is the better band, but money runs the music business, and money says Rise Against as a headliner makes more sense.

I think RA is headlining because they have a new album coming out in 2011. They opened for BR at one point and a lot of times bands that become "mainstream" popular take bands out on the road that influenced them even though those bands aren't as mainstream (e.g. Nirvana taking out Butthole Surfers and Shonen Knife).
I used to be a big RA fan, now I think they are quite lame. I'm fine with all of the success. It's their live show that pisses me off. Tim gets up there for 75 minutes spewing his self aggrandizing rhetoric to a crowd full of meatheads and jocks. In my 15+ years of going to shows, I've never been more frustrated with the behavior of fans that the last time I saw RA at the Bumbershoot festival in Seattle.
The first two records are amazing, the third very good, but it keeps going down hill from there. It is quite obvious that they have lost creative control of their music and are producing corporate radio hits. This is very ironic given their hardline stance against consumerism and the corporate structure.
The sad part is I don't think they wanted it to be like this...shit just blew up and they got caught up. Just my 2cents.
I wholeheartedly agree with you. Last time I saw RA definitely was the last.

Wait a minute, they use to open for B.R. And Green Day and Offspring did the same. Open for B.R. And become arena bands, hehehe.

I sure hope I can get down to LBC to see the Descendents though. Caught em at Warped 96 but I was just a young punk then...too young to appreciate.

Cody - yeah, that is technically correct. However, Rise Against sucks, and the best bands (i.e. Bad Religion) are typically supposed to be the "main band" in the tour.

Rise Against is definitely supposed to be above Bad Religion, they're the main band in the tour.
no way i'd pay to see BR open for a mediocre rip off of themselves. and for the site, Pop's is technically in Sauget, IL not East St. Louis
According to Ticketmaster, BR isn't playing at Pop's either.
I wonder where Jesse got the info. Hopefully Ticketmaster has it wrong, cuz a short show is better than no show.

ARG. First I was disappointed to see another short show for Chicago... I was REALLY hoping for a full show! ...then when I went to Ticketmaster to find tickets, I see that BR is not even billed on the Chicago shows. I don't know who has the correct info. Hopefully it gets sorted out by Thursday when the tix go on sale.
Wow four shows in Illinois and one in Ohio but none in Detroit? I really wanna go see them but im not sure if its worth the drive and money to see them open.
With you on that entirely. Can't justify 11 hours on a bus or 7 hours in the car (not to mention the additional travel costs) for just 45 minutes of a show. That was the same reason I skipped the Riot Fest (fortunately, as they played a shortened version of the Detroit setlist from the previous night). A lot of very strange venue choices too. Outside in early May in Cleveland? EAST St Louis...lol...seriously? And most bizarre of all: St Augustine FL. Population: 12,000.
With all that said, I really empathize with everyone in New Orleans. I've even asked Jay why they haven't been back since 2000. It makes NO sense.

Oh, so I guess this is RA tour and BR are just hopping along? This just show how humble they are and down to earth after all these years. My comment down there still stands, though

haha, an institution like BR is listed under RA (no offense) - it just doesn't make sense to me. RA need another 20 years to be in the same pot as BR

Why is BR opening for Rise Against? Well, one lesson comes from when everyone freaked out a decade ago about why BR would open for Blink 182. The very simple answer BR provided? "They asked us to."

I'm pretty excited. I do think it's weird that BR isn't headlining, but I still dig both bands. They're 2 out of my 3 favorite punk bands, so it'll still be a kickass time, I hope.

I'm not upset because they are opening, but would it really hurt if for once in 11 years they could stop in New Orleans? At least I am in Germany for the summer so I will see them there.

omg I'm so excited I hardly care that Rise Against is headlining!! Because if they were coming to Philly a week later I would have already left for the summer. But now I will see BR at least once this year for sure! :D :D
Now I'm going to go off be in a really good mood for the rest of the day. :)

I'm a pretty big BR fan, I did see them 9 times last year after all, and in 3 major cities.
But I'm gonna skip this tour. And I even like Rise Against...mostly.
But in LA at the huge Long Beach Arena and in SF at the Bill Graham? I know not all shows can be at the Troubadour, or even HOB, but still.
Bah, I'll pass.
Have fun, arena rockers.
