In a recent and quite extensive interview, Fletcher Dragge from Pennywise tells about how their new album 'All or Nothing' inspires Brett to write a fast Bad Religion record... another No Control.

No Control isnt one of my favourite albums, but considering how much I've been prefering the fast/short tracks from their latest albums, I suspect it'll sound great in the end

I still think The Process of Belief was their second coming of No Control. Esp. the way the album starts with those first 3 songs. Best album of theirs IMO. The only slightly weak song on that record is "The Lie" which is still good.
As far as TDOM is concerned, I ALWAYS skip "Turn your back on me". I don't know how that made it on to the album. "This is where the fun is" has some of the silliest lyrics I have ever heard on a BR song, but musically it is a JAM, a solid medium-tempo song in the vein of 21st century....so I like it.
I do agree the new record should contain more fast songs than TDOM...but a 26 min. all fast rehash of No Control...no thanks.

Whether it has No Control or even Some Control...
I'm just itching for some new Bad Religion songs.

huge br fan, and no control is one of my favourite br albums. however, i don't necessarily want another no control. ideally, the new album is an organic expression of critical thought, something I feel br has always strived for. if it ends up containing the punk urgency of no control, well...that's just a bonus (and huge credit to br for pulling it off).

NO control was the very first BR album I listened to....It changed my whole life, I'd be great to listen to something similar to the early works. for me the fastest one ever from br. slow songs are not that bad, but the fast ones are the very main reason I love Br. the next album has got to be fast!!!

Unfortunately, TDOM is the only BR album with FIVE auto-skip songs. That's just too damn much.
Devil In Stitches, Cyanide, Turn Your Back On Me, Where The Fun Is, and I Won't Say Anything.
That's an entire third of the album! :-/
i would HIGHLY recommend that this "idea" be used for entertainment purposes only. no matter what the album sounds like, there will always be disappointments and comparisons. i can tell you that brett is very happy with his songs so far, and yes there is a push to write something faster, but to simply say "we're going to re-write No Control" is preposterous. the comments from fletcher about brett being inspired to write an album like no control because of his enthusiasm for the new pennywise record serves pennywise's credibility far more than it does us and our future work. so lets just wait and see, and avoid all the "where's the double album?" "you said it was going to be suffer" comments when the work is finally done. sorry... but i hate it when something tries to paint us into a corner.
Thank you! But if you guys allow me a little advice, I'd say just one thing: Write fast songs, but take real good care with the melodies because that's where BR makes the difference, apart from the lyrics. The real big difference between the newest fast tunes and the ones on No Control might be that the older ones had those really incredible melodies over fast hardcore and sometimes weird chords progressions. I'd rather listen more "All good soldiers" then another "Fast life".

Personally I think they should stick to what just comes naturally for them. If that is "a new No Control", then fine. But I actually liked TDOM (and I seem to be the only one who thinks Cyanide- well maybe after Only Rain- is the best song on it) so I wouldn't mind if they continued on that path.
What would be pretty awesome though is if they released an E.P., with five or maybe six superfast oldschool hardcore songs, some months before the next LP. And by that I mean a REAL E.P., not some bonus tracks on a deluxe version of the full length... And then they could release the full length, which is full of Cyanides...

Is it possible? Of course it is. They wrote the album. Can we expect "No Control"? That's way less likely. It already happened. The band has become a thousand other things since 1989, I can't imagine they'd really try to rip themselves off by copying something they did when they were in their 20's. Although, my confidence in Brett's more recent song writing makes me feel he's a little desperate to rekindle the "punk" in himself.

I think Henry Rollins said it best in Get In the Van when kids would tell him which songs to play- "You can breathe, but breathe how I tell you to" lol....I hope Bad Religion creates the album THEY are inspired to make, not what a bunch of other people want. They always have, so there is no reason why that would change now.

The following is something I expressed to some friends tonight, and about a song on No Control... a song that continued (and continues, at least in some ways) to express the "anxious" experiences of BR's lives. "re-writing" No Control is obviously not what is in the minds of our favorite band. HOWEVER, FOR Brett this experience of a (possibly remiscent) sense of inspiration to write music that might embody the sort of urge, angst, and intellectullism that went into No Control during that time period may have a major influence on the next BR album... it MAY NOT. Why do some of you care? I think by "painting [them] into a corner" you create a level of anxiety for this band that is not deserved. No Control is my favorite album, sure, and Anxiety is one of my favorite songs, but I also LOVED the Dissent of Man. Some of you need to grow up.
Anxiety is a terrible feeling. Some people experience it worse than others, and for everyone who experiences it quite regularly, they know it is a continuous battle under matters of social circumstances, as well as personal, psychological circumstances. We cannot always help it, and in many ways, some really CAN help it. Yet, we are sometimes made to feel victimized by it... causing the anxiety to grow worse in that particular situation. I don't always understand my own personal anxiety, but I find solace in knowing that some of the most inspirational people in my life experience it as well, and can humanize something (in a single punk rock song) that can be so dehumanizing. It is for this reason (and many others) that Bad Religion changed/saved my life. Only Rain is my new favorite song... you should check it out.
It was enough to bring a tear to every gardener’s eye yesterday as pensioner Peter Glazebrook set a new record for the world’s heaviest onion. The monster vegetable tipped the scales at 17lbs 15 and a half ounces - breaking the previous world record of 16lbs 8.37 ounces held by John Sifford, of the West Midlands, since 2005. Peter, a 67-year-old retired chartered surveyor, who lives near Newark, has broken ten world records in his 30 years of gardening. He has been trying for the honour of cultivating the world’s heaviest onion for 25 years but always missed out until yesterday’s victory at Harrogate Flower Show. He said: 'I did not know the exact weight until they put it on the scales but I had been measuring it every day so I was very hopeful.' There was then a nail-biting wait while dozens of rival entries were loaded onto the scales before Peter was announced as the winner...
...and then brett was so excited he began re-writing no control

Sorry....but I have to chime in. Let's let Bad Religion make the album that Bad Religion are INSPIRED to make. It will be a NEW album...not a retread or anything like that. Some of you guys are never happy....some complained that New Maps of Hell was too fast, others complained that the Dissent of Man had too many poppy songs, etc.....if you ask me 'Dissent of Man' was fantastic and "Only Rain", "Resist Stance" and "Won't Say Anything" are already Bad Religion classics. Trust in BR!
theres some good songs on TNA. greg sings his ass off on that album
There certainly are some great songs. As DaymanVersus... points out, There Will Be A Way and Don't Sell Me Short. Wonderful tunes. I personally love the album. But I can't see anyone putting TNA in their top 10 BR albums list. There's a reason even they don't play much of it live. Just saying.

Whisper in Time was a complete reach by Graffin, just like TNA as an album. Couldn't disagree more. Those songs are not hidden gems by any means.
After Dissent of Man, I really think what this band should do is another No Control type of album. That would be pretty interesting. At least in my lowly opinion.

No control is the most unique album in the catalog.
. Brett seemed unispired the last album - they aren't going to go rip off that sustained energy nor are they going to replicate that absurdly analog and specific sound with protools - but about 3/4 of the last album had almost no motivation,,,Starbolt had Only Rain and a shit load of clunkers.
Compression or just fucking with things isn't going to replicate that energy, but an inspired Mr. Brett might.
I'll settle for something that is way more New Maps of Hell than Dissent of Man.
While I love DOM, NMOH is exactly the kind of album I prefer from the band. Mostly fast hard and raw songs with some catchy slower upbeat tracks. One more of those in the BR collection and my life will be complete. Or if they release a double album....

I used to try to write songs like Led Zeppelin - songs never sounded like Led Zeppelin (my songs sucked). It's always interesting how artists get inspired by something and how the art turns out in the end. Brett saying that could mean the songs end up being pale imitation of what was a highly creative moment in his and the band's history, or alternatively, being inspired but still travelling along his current songwriting path could mean the songs are the best things ever. I like the news that he feels genuine inspiration grabbing him - something that has been missing in my songwriting for years. I can't wait to hear the results; whether I be in awe or disappointment, as The Dissent of Man is testament to, is purely personal taste.

Come on...if you're on this site and Mr. Brett says he's 'inspired to write another fast album' and you don't immediately think they can, go to your toolbar, hit your 'Nickelback' bookmark and leave. THE greatest punk band can do whatever they want. If they want to make another 'Into the Unknown', they can and it will kick ass....These guys are professionals, pioneers and everything young punk bands (if there existed any good ones) inspire to be. We should all be happy they continue to tour and release anything; if they choose to make another 'fast album', hell ya...if not, whatever they release will be GREAT and we should all be thankful we're not trying to talk ourselves into the next 311 album (are they still alive?). Oh, and the new PW album is super rad, the best since 'Land of the Free'.

Man, Fletcher talks a lot.
Can BR do No Control again? I doubt it. Can BR make another kick ass album? Surely. But I don't care if the next Bad Religion record is "another No Control" as long as it's good.

i would HIGHLY recommend that this "idea" be used for entertainment purposes only. no matter what the album sounds like, there will always be disappointments and comparisons. i can tell you that brett is very happy with his songs so far, and yes there is a push to write something faster, but to simply say "we're going to re-write No Control" is preposterous. the comments from fletcher about brett being inspired to write an album like no control because of his enthusiasm for the new pennywise record serves pennywise's credibility far more than it does us and our future work. so lets just wait and see, and avoid all the "where's the double album?" "you said it was going to be suffer" comments when the work is finally done. sorry... but i hate it when something tries to paint us into a corner.

I'm skeptical. Like people have said, band members have made album comparisons in the past that didn't really stand up in the minds of most BR fans. I'd like to believe this is true though. I don't think Dissent of Man worked very well, so a return to the band's roots would be good thing in my book. I just don't want to get my hopes up.

No Control is my favorite album of all time and my first BR album i've ever owned. To hear that they are, or at least brett, is attempting to write another NC is the greatest news I could possibly hear about a band that probably doesnt have too many years left. Make it fast baby!
I've been really hoping that NMOH wasn't going to be their last predominantly fast record.

Let's be honest. Who doesn't shit on his pants repeatedly just by reading the news headline alone? Having said that... I need to change my pants again!! OMFG!!! It goes without saying, I'm all for it! But yeah, NMoH could be considered an updated Against the Grain. All Brett has to do is write the fastest BR songs still in him and then maybe release a bonus disc full of radio friendly hits that he could title "Play This If You're KROQ".

Hmmmm....No Control is my favourite record of all time and I was really disappointed with most of the songs Brett wrote for the last record, so I guess I'm more than okay with this.
I'm sure that being smart guys and knowing what they're capable of they could do an "updated" No Control: a record full of fast and short songs but without trying to desperately like it's 1989 again.

I don't want Brett to change his mind....BR needs a fast album, esp. if it is the last one. Go out with a big bang! Dissent of man is overall a good album, but still very slow. I wasn't the biggest fan of New Maps of Hell but when I listened to it again the other day it was awesome because most of the songs are fast and have a lot of energy.

...please let Brett change his mind on this. It would be a crazy idea. this is such a talented band now. with brooks and brian and great vocal harmonies, songs with different tempos, styles. I would be really happy if they would continue making records like the last 5 records. recreating anything older than recipe for hate would be weird I think

Remember when No Substance was gonna be a new Suffer record? ;D
Of course they're capable, if you pool all the Can't Stop Its, Murders and Meeting of the Minds from the last ten years and put them on the same record you'd have it.
I think they took it as far as they could go through ATG and Generator, and another No Controlesque record would be kind of pointless.
I'd still like to hear it though. ;D

I think Bad Religion are perfectly capable to pull this off.
Of course, when Brett says "I'm trying to write another No Control", I don't think he means it literaly. After all, a lot of things have changed since 1989 (social-political context, Bad Religion's style), plus there is a No Control already. :)
Also, I guess they will try a different approach on the new record, like they did on every other records (I don't get how some people say that Bad Religion songs sound the same... especially from an album to another. There clearly are differences.
BUT... an album with No Control's energy, short, fast songs and the potential of becoming a classic over the years, can be done
