i still think you need to make 18 different versions of the album.

what you CAN do, it use the tape initially for the compression, and THEN send that compressed sound to digital. digital will then REPLICATE the sound of the compressed signal... see? you can start analog and go to digital, but it's not the same the other way around

Are computers now banned from the studio forever-ever-ever-ever-ever-ever?[/quote]here's what they HAVEN'T come up with yet. the "magic" in analog recording comes from tape compression. in other words, once the sound gets too loud, the sound wave gets squashed at the top and when you get it just right it's amazing. digital has no compression, when the sound wave maxes out, it gets clipped into digital distortion. so if you record digital quietly, then attempt to drive that replica of a soundwave onto a tape, it just doesn't sound right. get the brundlefly analogy?

You know what? If this is the last BR album, then so be it. Aside from my wife and child, there's nothing I love more than this band. Haha. But it's gotta end sometime right? Greg's been saying that for years. At the Glasgow show someone asked Baker and he said Greg was just fooling around. I am so stoked for this you have no idea. I remember rushing home from a conference to listen to Dissent. I so can't wait to hear this one! Apologies to everyone who has to put up with me in the run up to release! I don't care whether it's fast or experimental, every single record brings something new to the table which is what makes the new records so exciting.

Because he said something like "We'll do one more album next year" and then the next night he kind of clarified.... I really don't think I'm making this up, but anything is possible.
