It's been a year since our last Minor League news item, but here is finally a new one! For those of you not familiar with this, here's a short intro: In order to prevent the site from being flooded with small news, we sometimes combine several of them in one news item. So here's number 21!
A couple of months ago Tim Armstrong from Rancid started to release cover songs of other bands and artists under the name "Tim Timebomb and Friends." Some bands and artists that already have been covered are Bryan Adams (Summer of 69), NOFX (Bob), and Bob Dylan (The Times They Are A Changin'). Of course Tim didn't forget Bad Religion and decided to cover a song he was most familiar with: Television. The song will be available on iTunes on March 19.
Today, February 17, Blink-182 posted an update concerning their upcoming Australian tour on their Facebook page. Because of Travis Barker's fear of flying, Brooks Wackerman will now fill in as drummer for Blink-182 during the Australian shows later this month.
"The trip to Australia was planned during our European tour last summer. The band knew the chances of Travis overcoming his fear of flying, which was magnified after the horrible plane crash in 2008, would be a challenge, but we wanted to play for our fans in Australia nonetheless. The three of us tried all measures to get us all there in full form. Travis has been working to overcome his fear of flying. Since we now know we have to make the trip without Travis our friend Brooks Wackerman (Bad Religion, Tenacious D) has stepped in. We love our fans in Australia so canceling was not an option so we still plan to come and play some kick ass shows. Mark, Tom, and Travis"
Brett Gurewitz has teamed up with Matt Pizzolo and Steve Niles to create a new comic publishing company named Black Mask Studios. Here's some background info on the whole project:
"In 2011, a handful of comics creators were inspired by the events of Occupy Wall Street to create a comic book anthology called Occupy Comics that would serve the dual purpose of creating an artistic time capsule of the goals & themes of the movement while also fundraising for the protesters with all revenues (past hard costs) being donated to various Occupy actions. After a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised nearly 3x its goal and amassed a star-studded roster of over 50 professional creators (including a few legends), organizational spearhead Matt Pizzolo attempted to arrange a distribution deal for Occupy Comics through a traditional comics publisher so the stories could reach broader audiences. Although the project was much-discussed and eagerly anticipated, the fees demanded by publishers seemed excessive and would likely leave little to no profits left for the protesters. So Pizzolo joined with fellow Occupy Comics original member Steve Niles (creator 30 Days of Night) and Occupy Comics Kickstarter-backer Brett Gurewitz (guitarist Bad Religion, founder Epitaph Records) to form a distribution pipeline that could bring Occupy Comics to larger audiences at a lower cost than any of the other publishers were able to offer, thus generating more funds for protesters. Since they had to build a pipeline for Occupy Comics, Pizzolo, Niles, and Gurewitz decided to turn it into a company called Black Mask Studios that could support creators making outsider/transgressive/non-traditional comics. The initial slate of projects set for release in Spring 2013 all feature at least one Occupy Comics contributor: 12 Reasons To Die writers Matthew Rosenberg & Patrick Kindlon, Ballistic artist Darick Robertson, and Liberator writer Matt Miner. With a mandate to find new ways of supporting creators and reaching new audiences, Black Mask is committed to pushing the boundaries of comics."
For Spring 2013 the following comics are coming out:
May 1st: Occupy Comics Anthology
May 29th: 12 Reasons To Die
June 19th: Liberator
June 26th: Ballistic
More info about the comics can be found on the official Black Mask Studios website and on Epitaph Records.

There's something jarring about hearing "Television" end without being followed by that distorted "aww, forget it" and the opening riff to "Individual."

The Black Mask releases start coming out in May (Occupy Comics, 12 Reasons To Die) or June (Liberator, Ballistic).
Most of the stuff in the webstore is subscriptions to the various mini-series, & the subscriptions *end* in December but start in the Spring.

Like most people, I am not a huge fan of blink but I am a big fan of the Travis's drumming. I will look forward to seeing Brooks perfoming their songs.
I see the story about Travis Barker/Brooks is currently 3rd top story on the BBC news website. Lets hope the Blink 182 fanboyz (or girls, more likely) check out BR and listen to some proper music.
Good one though, Brooks, you gotta earn a living somehow...
I think he got more than enough touring with Tenacious D

I was listening to Televion not so long ago and thought that the song is not so bad afterall. Only the chorus is too repetitive. But the verses are nice and got a good guitar riff. Nice job by Tim.
