Contrary to our news report from February last year, Bad Religion's book isn't called "We're Not Bad Religion... You Are", but "DO WHAT YOU WANT: The Story of Bad Religion".
Today, the book was finally officially announced and is available for pre-order at the usual places. For pre-order links, check out badreligion.com. The release date is August 18.
Already in September of 2018, co-author Jim Ruland contacted The Bad Religion Page about using the website for the project. He found the information within the The Answer and the Media archives to be extremely helpful, noting the band uses it to refresh their memories as well.
We are extremely honored to have assisted him with this project, and look forward to exploring the pages of the final result this coming August!
Depending on the source, the number of pages is either 272 or 336.
DO WHAT YOU WANT: The Story of Bad Religion is the first autobiography written with full cooperation and support of the band. It reveals the ups and downs of the band’s 40-year career, from their beginnings as teenagers experimenting in a San Fernando Valley garage dubbed “The Hell Hole” to headlining major music festivals around the world.
The book predominantly features the four principal voices of the band in a hybrid oral history/narrative format: Greg Graffin, Brett Gurewitz, Jay Bentley, and Brian Baker. It also includes rare photos; never-before-seen material from the archives; and all-new interviews with former members and famous friends.
DO WHAT YOU WANT will be published in hardcover, e-book, and audio formats on August 18, 2020, and is co-authored by accomplished music writer Jim Ruland.
Jim Ruland has been writing for punk rock zines like Flipside since the early '90s and has written for every issue of Razorcake, America's only non-profit independent music fanzine. He is the co-author of My Damage with Keith Morris, the founding vocalist of Black Flag, Circle Jerks, and OFF.

This is his last chance. 2010. Biggest solo of his life. Little man. Big man.
Also at some show before hetson solo in Devil in stitches, greg g. was saying something like: last chance for a little guy. What was that all about? There is a video in the youtubes.
Coop, I have that on my iPod. IIRC that was their last show that year, the Almost Acoustic Christmas show 2010(?), and it was said like "here he goes, last solo of 2010, BIG MAN!!". I always took it as typical GG joking around type comment.

Thank you, Torbar, for posting that link. It all makes sense now. I was at his last show (The Palladium, Los Angeles, 2013) and thought it strange that he didn't do any of the guitar solos that day. He had played 1/3 to 1/2 of the solos at every other show I had seen in previous years.
I'm sad they didn't hold his place while he recovered. He was integral to them staying/playing together in the early 80's according to some stories in Anarchy Evolution.
I hope to see him at a meeting someday, I have seven years of sobriety myself!
Wow. Interesting. So more substance abuse related than anything. Strange that multiple members seem to have been dealing with drug/drink stuff so late in the game.
Just taking an educated guess but it sounds like Brian and Jay are the ones that voted him out. I'd also wager there is more to the story than we will ever hear about so who knows. Stinks that there was so much drama. Hope that Greg sticks with the program and gets better, and I hope everyone gets along again eventually.
Yeah, I'm guessing it was Brian and Jay too. Hopefully we hear their side of the story in the book, at least give us some insight to things from their perspective, but even then it's probably not gonna cover exactly everything that happened, as it sounded like it was going on for years.
From what I remember he stopped playing shows mid april of one year(2013?), and pretty much a year later to the day he posted something on instagram saying he was 1 year sober, so nice to hear that even though by that point he knew he wasn't a member anymore that he stuck with sobriety. BR and The Circle Jerks are playing a bunch of festivals over the summer, so hopefully they all have a chance to hang out and become buddies again, even if his days in BR are in the past

I wasn't aware we finally found out what they were. I looked for like a year after he left and never found out why. I was at the Palladium in 2013 which I think was his last one. What actually happened?
I don't know for sure, but I think it had to do with his divorce. It is mentioned in this article: https://loudwire.com/bad-religion-guitarist-greg-hetson-confirms-departure-from-band/

Wow. I'm not going to pretend to know how book royalties work, but I can't imagine big bucks are going to be made here. Kinda lame on Hetson's part. I wonder if that is any indication on where he is at relationship-wise with the rest of BR now.

It'd be nice to have his side of the story in this book, though
To paraphrase Hetson, they weren't going to pay him for contributing so he wasn't going to contribute.

They asked Hetson, but would not pay him anything. So he said no.
