I seriously doubt that they never used a dictionary for lyrics. You look at their older lyrics and they're full of multi-syllabic obscure words (think fecundity). On the new album, their lyrics don't contain as many difficult words, but the ideas are a lot more developed even though Graffin now has his doctorate and probably has a more extensive vocabulary.

I like No Substance, it has some pretty weak songs but overall it's a great album.

yea, for a 'typical' br tounge-twister they would have been better of using a brett or greg line (like from materialist) than one by jay spoofing the real deal, but hey...
t'other thing is No Substance is definitely 'occasionally brilliant' with Victims, Strange Denial, & Voracious

Why do they have to state "career low No substance" as a fact? It disturbs me every time someone tries to state his opinions as fact! No substance is probably one of my faves!

the quote from 'a positive aspect of negative thinking' reminded me of a question i've been thinking about:
Since jay wrote 'a positve aspect..." and since it is kindof supposed to be a metaphor for the band, do you think he uses all of those long crazy words on purpose to poke fun at the band's typical vocabulary?
because that song definetly has the most confusing lyrics of any br song...

Heh... obviously not. Ignoring the pictures, I thought that articial was alright! Nothing spectacular but it was nothing diabolical.
