A look at the latest releases from a handful of Warped Tour bands:
Bad Religion, "The Empire Strikes First" (Epitaph): The granddaddy of contemporary punk-pop and cornerstone band of Epitaph Records (band member Brett Gurewitz founded the label) has been at it long enough to know how best to strengthen the genre's limitations. Socially conscious (three guesses who the "Empire" is), varied tempos, and no hint of sloppiness. ***3/4

Bands to watch
Bad Religion: Elder statesmen of Orange County punk-rock, Bad Religion can still whup the bejesus out of its countless younger disciples. The politically charged, brainy band is promoting its latest social commentary, 'The Empire Strikes First.' If Epitaph Records (founded by guitarist Brett Gurewitz), doesn't ring a bell, you're at the wrong concert. Repent and get some Religion.
