I happened to accidentally download this version of a great song and listened to it to see if it would be decent....all I have to say is that I was laughing my ass off at this poser-punk group's obvious attempt to appease the people who see through their shitty facade of "punkness" ...damn that cover fucking sucked serious ass especially considering the fact that the idiot who fronts the group cannot sing the lyrics fast enough and drawls out the lyrics entirely too fucking much.
Now I can see where you folks are coming from about a band's right to cover a song, but they could have at least done it right... if they can't do it right then don't do it at all. I rest my case.

If you didn't know already, Canadians speak English, and 60 million Europeans have English as their mother language (it's called fucking Great Britain!). The rest of us knows pretty good English anyway.
I can agree on the cover not being very good (it's been out for a couple of years already live), but who are you to judge? If they want to do a cover, who cares? They want to pay homage to their punk rock heroes, fine! I couldn't care less.
Now, lose that elitist bullshit, and let them be! If you don't want to listen to them, don't!

I'm not trying to say they're trying to be the next BR, but I think you should show respect If you don't know the lyrics, then maybe you don't get the message of the song. Think of how us lowly americans must feel about it (all you in Canada and Europe defending SP). That song seems more timely now than when it was released 11 years ago. No song i've heard has done such a great job of conveying exactly how bad the problem is. This is close to how I felt when I heard stupid MxPx cover "Sick boy" by Social D. It was sickening. The song is about a bad ass who plays by his own rules and MxPx relegated to sounding like some stupid pop song that should be on the radio. All I'm saying is, don't offer an interpretation if its just gonna be an insult. Good covers: Green Day's "Blitzkrieg Bop" (The Ramones); The Ramones' "Surfin Bird" (Beach boys); Social Distortion's "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash. See, all I'm saying is, give the song its due and let it keep its integrity...don't kill it.

I still dont get it. The live video of Simple Plan covering BR is not that bad. I dont see why all of you hate it. If he messed up the lyrics, it must not have been by that much, because I didn't notice it.

Simple plan always been fans of BR. I remember in 1996, Reset opened for BR in montreal. (reset = old name for simple plan). And then Reset's singer interviewed Greg and he told him that BR was from far his favorite band and that he gets his inspiration from BR. Altho Simple plan has prolly sold copies with one album than BR did with 13 or so ... Sad Sad Sad ...

So we should shut up because you're entitled to your opinion? What about our opinion?
Let Simple plan do what they fuck they want, and leave it to that. Yes, I also think the cover stinks, but I can't judge SP, since I've never listened to them.
But I don't go "Fuck them, they aren't punk enough" and that bullshit.

Okay, so Simple Plan doesn't follow the ethic of BR. So? Why should that stop them playing a cover of a BR song? After all, they're not trying to be the next Bad Religion. They're just playing a really good punk rock single.

alright idiots that are defending simple plan, i have something to say...shut up. correct, we shouldn't be elitists with BR, its the very concept that BR stands against (a unified group of thought based on dogmatic thinking), however we are entitled to our opinions. I think we have to right to gripe against a band that makes mainstream simple minded music and goes with the grain and has a recipe for success and a formula to follow. I think it is great when a band sites bad religion as one of their influences, but i can't reconcile the thought of BR being such an "influence" when they don't even get the words correct...c'mon, as if that doesn't s-p-e-l-l posuer. i heard the ataris version of heaven is falling and while i did not like it, i didn't cringe the way i did whe i SAW that simple plan did american jesus. it just doesn't make sense. please be open minded yourselves to the fact that a band is using one of the most sacred punk rock bands of all time to perpetuate their recipe.

I sadly have to admit that it was my friend's obsession with Simple Plan that led me to Bad Religion. I heard the cover in her car one day and went home to find the original, and well the rest is history. Go ahead, pile on the hate now. :P

Christ almighty. A band should be able to cover whatever song they want. Stop being so fucking elitist, just because Simple Plan aren't BR doesn't make them a band who should be barred from playing BR covers! I don't like their live cover, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't do it. What you are doing is exactly like Ramones fans saying BR aren't deserving enough to play a cover of "We're A Happy Family" because BR were influenced by them! It's a load of bullshit. Come on guys, open your minds a little.

uh, bandless, whats wrong with you. they DO in fact butcher the song. its unlistenable. man, i've seen these assholes at warped tour twice and they played american jesus both times and got the words wrong both times. they make a bad religion song sound completely gay. they can do what they want with their own music, but don't thrash the music of a good band.

Actually it may suprise some of you, when I say that The Simple Plan version of "American Jesus" LIVE was the first version of the song that I heard.
After That I checked out the real version, and I have to say, That Simple Plan does a pretty good job.....
they dont butcher it as some of you suggest. Yes I cant stand Simple Plan girlish pop-songs, but give them some freakin credit....they did a good cover.
