Interview with Brian Baker in the article "Punk band blends politics and rock" at Caller.com
"Greg has always been comfortable investigating life's complexities and challenging the status quo," said guitarist Brian Baker of the band's co-founder Graffin, who recently completed a Ph.D. in biology at Cornell University.
"This is the way in which he chooses to pursue his art and I really think it's much more beneficial than being a good times band. I think there's enough of those."
For the young crowds attending Bad Religion shows, don't underestimate their political sense.
"It is amazing how much political interest I see in 18- to 24-year-olds who come to the shows . . . especially during this election," Baker said.
Baker has been in Bad Religion 10 years, joining before the "Stranger Than Fiction" album.
Next year, the band celebrates 25 years in music and has entered a process of refinement, according to Baker.
"What you see now is a grown-up version of what started in Greg Graffin's garage in 1980," said Baker, 39.
"Atlantic was a great place and we put out four albums on Atlantic," Baker said. "There was absolutely nothing wrong at all. I think it's just good business and good sense to go back to Epitaph. The guy in the band (Gurewitz) owns the label. It . . . all happened in a very serendipitous way and that brings us to where we are now."
